I needed to switch primary care physicians due to changes in my insurance. I did my research and came across Dr. Compton. I set up an appointment (done online), which was easy. Come appointment day, I had a great experience because all my questions were answered and I felt Dr. Compton took his time learning about me given I'm a new patient. I didn't feel rushed at all. His office staff also were very friendly and accommodating. I'm giving only 4 stars due to the fact then whenever I call their number, nobody picks up. Although the number can be texted and they will respond, I figured if I'm someone who isnt well equipped to text or book an appointment online, phone access is still very helpful. I greatly enjoyed my visit to Dr. Compton's office. Pros: + A clean, quiet and modern office throughout. + Patient and personalized care: Dr. Compton does not make you feel rushed at all like most doctors, takes time to answer any questions carefully and in an understandable way, and even explains medical studies/literature when asked about treatment options. + Dr. Compton seems to fully embrace the idea of preventative medicine and lifestyle modifications to fix health issues long term; I understand this is one of the core competencies of the "DO" doctors. + The front desk staff is courteous and professional. + There are two private parking spots in the back of the office across the alley for patients. Cons: - If you park in the private parking spots, you have to walk a ways to get to the front door, or down a staircase to the office which is not well marked from the parking spots. I moved to LA & needed to find a new doctor. Dr. Compton is very empathetic & a great listener. He spent an hour with me at my first visit & took my preferences into consideration when making his recommendations. I appreciate how he takes every aspect of my health into account and does not jump to immediate conclusions. He even did some OMT at the end of my appointment to help my chronic pain. Dr. Compton is a very professional and kind man to gain medical counsel & guidance from. His staff are also very kind, polite, and courteous. He is patient, when listening to all of your concerns and goals, as well as providing the patient with realistic, achievable goals (as well as larger, more long term goals). I decided to switch to a DO from an MD, and I am very grateful that a medical professional wants to work with patients on an approach that works through more holistic senses, versus loading you up with pills and medications from day 1. Mind you, it will take a little bit of self-discipline and duty to achieve those bigger health goals, but Dr. Compton is a great and genuine supporter and makes sure you also recognize and praise yourself on all of the smaller achievements - as well as the larger ones. read more

Dr. Compton takes the time to care, listen, discuss, provide treatment and advice to his patients. Some Dr's will give you 15 mins the one and done method! If you want a one and done type of treatment, don't go to Dr Compton. He will spend time with you to hear your concerns and then will work out with you the best treatment he feels will benefit you! The staff is always attentive and kind. The office is always clean. I have never had to wait longer than 10 mins before seeing the Dr. They don't overbook their patients. It is very annoying to book a Dr. appt at 10:00 and then you don't get to see the Dr. until 30-45 mins. later. This does not happen in Dr. Compton's office, hopefully it's because they don't overbook their patients. I am very thankful that I found Dr. Compton. read more

Dr. Compton is the worst doctor I have ever had. I will 100% be looking for another doctor after the past year I've spent as his patient. There's a few key issues with his approach that I want to bring to others' attention if they're considering choosing him as a primary care doctor. 1. Keeps you in appointments too long - while at first it seems as though the 50+ minutes he takes to learn about you and to give personalized advice based on your health goals is good, it becomes clear after more than one visit that he's more or less reading off of a script. This became very frustrating when I'd really only want to come in for a prescription refill, made it clear that that was all I was coming in for, and we'd have to talk for the third time about how many servings of fruits and vegetables I was getting per day. During my last appointment, he ran out of the vaccine that I needed to get at my appointment and didn't bother to tell me that before I left, and said "oh I guess this could have been a virtual appointment all along" thus causing me to waste both time and gas on what could have easily been a short virtual appointment. 2. Dubious medical advice - this is a primary issue where I think Dr. Compton could cause harm. He stated in a past appointment, after I reported I only drank 3 alcoholic drinks per week, that he was going to "harp on this" for a second because alcohol is a known carcinogen and there is no minimum safe level, so as a result I should not drink at all....and furthermore, that in the cases where it "did turn to cancer" that in women, 54% of the time it turns into breast cancer. I do not know where his empirical evidence is coming from on this claim, but this does not align with anything I have ever heard from a medical professional in the past. He also started selling some sort of procedure that is supposed to melt fat and reduce cellulite that seemed very snake oil-ish that he tried to get me to come to a demo of. Both of these actions made me disinclined to take any of his medical advice, even if other suggestions he made would have actually been accurate. 3. Lack of empathy - it seems as though Dr. Compton doesn't really look at situations beyond his own experience and understanding. I brought up legitimate concerns to him in the past and he's blown them off. For example, he wanted to order extra bloodwork that was not of crucial importance, and when I said to him that I would prefer not to because I have a tendency to faint when getting bloodwork done, he said "well it's only one extra vial of blood, not an extra stick." I faint due to the length of time giving blood, not the number of times I have a separate needle. I tried to explain this to him but he didn't seem receptive and ordered the extra tests anyway. 4. Judgmental approach - Dr. Compton has made comments that have felt extremely judgmental about life choices and decisions. He has a tendency to go through results of tests and state that while things are well within the normal range, he would "really love" to see it at another level. For example, my thyroid results from a blood test came back well within the normal range, but he said that he'd love to see it an even lower range without much of an explanation as to why or how to make adjustments to actually lower the results. His expectations seem to be idealized based on some nebulous criteria, which only succeeds in making the patient feel as if they did something wrong...and despite the fact that the ranges provided on the bloodwork by other medical professionals wouldn't even suggest that anything was wrong. Health should never be put in a binary of wrong and right, and he always seems to do just that in giving feedback. 5. Condescending and offensive manner - Dr. Compton mansplains everything in a condescending manner that I do not appreciate. In a conversation about blood sugar, he asked me if "I recognize the term hemoglobin" and speaks in a tone that feels as if he's speaking to a small child. He has also made several off-color jokes and comments that I didn't appreciate either. For example, I was wearing my silicone wedding ring to an appointment one day and he said that "either [my husband] is lucky or cheap," and another time when asking if I wanted to get tested for STDs and my indicating that I did not, he said "yeah you probably don't need to because you're not taking hard drugs...and you're not going to any prostitutes either, right?!" And laughed. These comments do not lead to a trusting relationship with a primary care provider, which I consider to be key part of a doctor/patient relationship. Based on my experience over the past year, I would not at all recommend choosing Dr. Compton as a primary care provider based on the factors I have listed above. I have spent too much time feeling bad about myself following his appointments to stay silent on this, and hope that this review helps you the reader in evaluating the best primary care doctor for you. read more

Dr. Compton is patient and an excellent listener. I spent nearly an hour with him during my initial visit and never felt rushed. He is a family medicine physician and has additional training in preventative medicine. He approaches health from a whole body perspective that involves diet, exercise, mental health, etc., rather than simply jumping immediately to writing a prescription. Filling out paperwork online before arriving was easy and convenient. I messaged Dr. Compton through the online patient portal a few days after my visit and he was quick to respond!
