Cute building on old Route 66! We stopped and ordered two small chocolate cones and paid about $6.50. It was a darker ice milk chocolate type product than creamy soft serve, and the flavor remained me of Tootsie Rolls. The man who served us was friendly. I read that city leaders restored Rich & Creamy back to its retro appearance from its heyday, and it has a good nostalgic flair. There's a ton of rules while you wait at least 20 mins to be served. I asked for a banana split and paid a ridiculous 8 dollars and change. I handed him 50 cents and said could I please get a couple extra cherries and he handed me the 50 cents back and said we don't have cherries. This place sucks. read more

Wanted to try out this amazing Joliet classic off of Route 66. Such a great spot to get ice cream especially since it's by the original Dairy Queen that was started in this city. So I used to WORK here back in high school. You would've thought that I had my fill then. It was Kreamy Delight back then and everyone remembers this place if you grew up in Joliet. The one thing that has changed in the Turtle sundae is the ice cream. It kinda borders on ice milk. The owner (I think I know who it is?) needs to go for more milk fat, richer consistency, and charge more money. I don't know about you, but I'd pay more for a better product just to get back to what it used to be. People are literally re-living their childhoods here and that is irreplaceable for many. NO ONE ELSE CAN SELL THAT. While I was in town, I would've gone out of my way to go twice instead of just once. The turtle toppings were still just as good but it was the ice cream that was a lesser quality. For the reviewer who complained about the toppings, we even charged extra for whip cream and nuts even back in the mid-late 80's but they still lined up around the building. This was one of the best jobs EVER! I would imagine that there is some legal agreement in regards to no longer calling it Kreamy Delight but I think this place could be just as busy as it was back in the day without the KD name. R&C have a unique selection of sundae flavors and really the prices aren't that bad, so technically, if they bumped up the quality of the ice cream and charged $1.00-$2.00 more (except for the baby cones) they could really crush it. The location was never great but that isn't what keeps people from visiting R&C, people will go out of their way to go back in time. The guy behind the counter needs to retire or at least his attitude does, but he has always been grumpy. If you were served by him in the 80's he was grumpy then too. But at the time, you got a fabulous product and put up with the guy. Now, when the product isn't all that, putting up with a grumpy guy behind the counter is no bonus either. A smile goes a long way even if you feel you have nothing to smile about. The good Lord got you up today, right? Life could always be worse. read more

Bought a sundae and then took it back because there wasn't any whipped cream or nuts. "We charge extra for whipped cream and nuts." Pretty sure whipped cream is a mandatory sundae ingredient, but I guess it's your business. They charge like .25 cent extra for using a card. read more

This place is a gem in joliet! I remember going here back in the 80s and 90s as a kid! It has changed names a couple times (used to be creamy delight), but one thing had remained is the quality! Some of my favorites are the caramel sundae with extra pecans( the combo of sweet and salty drives me insane!), the slushes are all solid( cherry has my heart)(they are even good mixed with ice cream!), and the dipped cones! I love the red cherry dipped cone with crunch topping added! It will make you wanna slap your momma or anyone close to you! No other ice cream joint will do the dip and topping together! They all tell me they can't do it, but this place has been doing it for me for years! #so piss on the others! #you suck The sad thing is I am lactose intolerant, but I don't care when it comes to rich & creamy! Met up with some friends while on my visit here. I was craving ice cream, and the entire group (all Joliet natives) said this was the place to go. Now, I don't expect anyone to go out of their way for me when it comes to customer service, but the man behind the counter was just plain rude. The ice cream (I tried the s'mores Sunday) was decent. But the place itself has a lot of charm, especially for a tourist like me. The roof was adorned with statues of The Blues Brothers. There are a few informative signs outside with cool pictures and fun facts about the location, which sits upon historic Route 66. And it was next to a beautiful park and statue (which I was unable to fully enjoy because the sun had already gone down). I'd say I would be back next visit, but the gentleman at the window made me feel quite unwelcome. Almost like we were a nuisance. So when I return, I'll probably be giving another ice cream joint a try instead. read more

I needed something for lunch and figured I would give this place another chance. I have had previously bad experiences. So, it was Taco Tuesday. Last time I got them they had just cheese and steak and I was told they are not like 'Americanized' tacos but genuine. So, I expected the same today especially since the sign has a picture AND description stating 'steak and cheese'. Well....these were so bad. No steak. We were traveling Rt. 66 from Chicago to OKC and this place was on our "must do" list. We were delighted that they had a park on the property and we ordered a banana split. It was the BEST! I can't wait for another excuse to make it to Joliet just to get some Rich and Creamy! We were on our route 66 honeymoon trip and when doing research for our trip i stumbled upon this. With nothing better to do and craving for desert after stuffing ourselves at del rhea's chicken basket we stopped here on a sunny wednesday afternoon in september. We were the only people here and we weren't expecting anything special but the ice cream was remarkably good! Good simple ice cream. They just have chocolate and vanilla soft serve, which you can get as a cone or in any number of sundae and "blizzard" type creations. They make a mean cookie dough thing, comparable to DQ. There's a pleasant-ish little park to walk around while you eat it too. read more
