Rice Park is one of those places where the view just never gets old. As many times as I've come here, I'm still mesmerized by what's before me each and every time -- bicoastal views of Maui and the valley that earned the island the nickname "The Valley Isle." It's a no frills park with an old and tattered road, a few picnic tables strewn about, and no playground. However, the grass is always well-kept and the hills make for the perfect place to slide down with cardboard boxes ;) Like most people, I come here for the view. Sunsets here are just magical, especially on clear days. Most recently, I came here after Hurricane Douglas just passed north of Maui and left us with an incredible, vibrant sky to end the day. Although Rice Park is quite a ways away from my home, the drive is worth it. It's located upcountry, right across Kula Country Farms and will always be one of my favorite places to sit and relish in the fact that we're lucky to live Hawaii.

This is one of our absolute favorite parks to visit. The view is just stunning and never gets old. The bathrooms are usually clean and there are several picnic tables spread throughout the park. Just a heads up, it does get pretty chilly after the sun goes down so make sure you bring a jacket and/or a blanket like we usually do. It's a great place to take the kids Hawaiian kine sledding with the cardboard boxes or even boogie boards lol. Adults do it too. We see it all the time and might've done it ourselves a few times :) Check it out

Beautiful views of Kahului and Kihei from up here. Stopped by Pukalani Supermarket and headed to rice park for a nice picnic with some friends. Watch out for the chickens, lol.

Such a stellar view of the West Maui Mountains, oh my god. Someone so sweetly left cardboard boxes there, so i carpe diem'd and slid down the grassy hills. If youre contemplating visiting this park, bring your own boxes and let your inner child slide.

Great place to take a short or long break While Up Country. the park has Bi-coastal views and a good place to check out sunsets or as stop on up-country bike ride.

My little fam and I did a day trip to Maui and as we were driving down from Upcountry Maui (after…read morepicking up our yummy yet quick dinner from Pukalani Superette), we stumbled upon a gift of a HUGE park with the most amazing playground. The playground was a dream: tons of activities to choose from and only 1-2 other families. My review is mainly about the playground but the park was gorgeous, tons of space to run and play, covered picnic areas, and tons of parking. (There is a porta potty which was really the only dim spot for me.) The Kalakupua Playground is really well-taken care of by the neighborhood. Hardly any grafitti, only one tiny area is broken (but it's taped off), and it's very safe - as the entire ground is covered in cut up pieces of tires. There are swing sets on both sides of the playground - and safe toddler swing sets, too. Climbing choices galore, many slides to choose from, a great parkour for kids area, and even a tiered sitting area for parents to wait while their children roam free in the safe, fence-surrounded playground. Truly, truly a gem if you are looking for a playground for your kids. I can't believe we stumbled on it. But we all left so happy: as parents it was nice to let them roam free, my 1-year old daughter knocked out for her nap, and our 6-year old yelled as we were leaving, "Mom, that's a 5-star playground!" I totally agree.

I come here because it's close to my mom's house. So I take a stroll every now and then here…read more Big grassy area. They have pavilions for parties here. They have a nice jungle gym for the keiki for all ages. It's nice for them to play on. They have swings and bucket swings for the younger ones. Just a nicer park overall.
