My little fam and I did a day trip to Maui and as we were driving down from Upcountry Maui (after…read morepicking up our yummy yet quick dinner from Pukalani Superette), we stumbled upon a gift of a HUGE park with the most amazing playground. The playground was a dream: tons of activities to choose from and only 1-2 other families. My review is mainly about the playground but the park was gorgeous, tons of space to run and play, covered picnic areas, and tons of parking. (There is a porta potty which was really the only dim spot for me.) The Kalakupua Playground is really well-taken care of by the neighborhood. Hardly any grafitti, only one tiny area is broken (but it's taped off), and it's very safe - as the entire ground is covered in cut up pieces of tires. There are swing sets on both sides of the playground - and safe toddler swing sets, too. Climbing choices galore, many slides to choose from, a great parkour for kids area, and even a tiered sitting area for parents to wait while their children roam free in the safe, fence-surrounded playground. Truly, truly a gem if you are looking for a playground for your kids. I can't believe we stumbled on it. But we all left so happy: as parents it was nice to let them roam free, my 1-year old daughter knocked out for her nap, and our 6-year old yelled as we were leaving, "Mom, that's a 5-star playground!" I totally agree.

Haha. Covered playground? Say what? Definitely a must, especially for the kiddos! So nice to have that reprieve from the sun, especially in Kihei where it can get hot hot hot. The playground equipment is great and offers a variety of climbing, jumping, and sliding. Probably best suited for kids 2 1/2 and older. Just wish they had one more big slide for the older kids. The playground flooring is also a little squishy so to speak and has a little bit of 'give' to soften the landing from jumps or falls. There were a lot of children and people in general, but the covered area is large and everyone is able to socially distance safely. Aside from the playground, there are also soccer /softball fields, a gymnasium (call to reserve the space), lots of open grassy areas, and ample parking to accommodate everyone. Will definitely have to visit again in the future.

Happy Earth Day!…read more This neighborhood park is located in Wailuku Heights (new side), hence the name. It's a small park with limited amenities like picnic tables and "exercise stations," but boasts beautiful ocean views and brisk mountain breezes. I used to live in the neighborhood and used to bring my pups here a lot. Years later, I am happy that they finally put in a new playground for the little ones to enjoy (I recommend for older kids, 4 and up). They've also installed new equipment for visitors to do their exercises. Scan the QR code on the equipment for a video demo of exercises you can do at each station. These exercise areas, including the playground, is surrounded by astroturf which is nice and makes it more manageable. The park is now also ADA accessible as they've built a path down to the playground and through the lower part of the park. I like to bring my little one here because it's quiet, less frequented by people, and honestly the views are just amazing. We've enjoyed a picnic or two here and I can just sit for hours on end enjoying the ocean view
