EXPERIENCE: As plain, simple and uninviting as it gets, the grassy park is about 1.5 blocks wide and is surrounded by single family homes. It features just two cement tables and benches, along with a walking/jogging sidewalk that lines the perimeter. There are a few trees that provide some shade in the corners of the park, but the picnic tables are unprotected. Overall maintenance is below average as some trees are just stumps and the grass color a mix of green, yellow and dead. Three points of access are available from Kealohilani, Kuuhale, and Kuuhoa streets. Parking is all on-street. TIP: There are no restrooms, water fountains or grills. OVERALL: Funny how the association wants residents to maintain green lawns and healthy trees yet they can't set a good example themselves.

It was a small, pleasant stroll but nothing extraordinary, exotic, or picturesque enough to highly recommend. If you're looking for something to fill some time on a cloudy, non pool/beach day I'd say it's an okay place to spend an hour or so. I wouldn't suggest going out of your way otherwise.

Honestly, it felt a bit overpriced at $15 per person for what it offers. The garden is quite small, with not much to see, and we were able to walk through the entire place in about 45 minutes. Ironically, the most interesting thing we saw was a chameleon in a cage near the entrance, not the flowers or plants themselves. The cashier was friendly and provided us with a map and a quick overview of the grounds, which we appreciated. Overall, we weren't impressed and wouldn't go out of our way to visit again.

While the gardens are undeniably beautiful, there were spots where the facilities, pathways, or displays seemed a little neglected. Overall, I still enjoyed my visit and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful place to experience Maui's lush tropical scenery. They don't know the Ways of the water yet. I finished on the left side, seven good waves and a more sandy bottom. Be sure to wear reef shoes. The rocks can hurt. The picture is a famous surfer, Ken Rocky. Surfed for Bing and Jacobs. This pic is a perfect Hang Ten. Now you have seen it. As we used to say, Surfers Rule.

I've been to quite a few black sand beaches around the world, and this one is a pretty special…read moreexperience, especially because you can actually get into the water and swim while surrounded by such a different landscape. The black sand beach is definitely the highlight of the park, although don't go in expecting that super fine, soft black sand you may be imagining. Here it's much more like little black stones and rocks. Honestly, I'm okay with that because I've been to one with the super fine black sand and it was a nightmare . Imagine regular sand getting absolutely everywhere and then make it black... everything looks dirty! The waves can be pretty strong, so come prepared for that if you want to swim. There are also quite a few other things to see and explore throughout the state park, so I wouldn't just come for the beach and leave. One important thing to know is that you now need a reservation to enter the park, so don't just show up expecting to walk in or you'll be turned away. It's also right along the Road to Hana, so getting here is part of the whole experience.

Make sure to take the trail above the water to get a beautiful view of the waves crashing on the rocks and of the beach. Bring water shoes or your feet will get cut up.

Twin Falls on Mauí is a popular, easily accessible waterfall hike located on the Road to Hana at…read moremile marker 2, just past the small quaint town of Paia. This was our first stop on the Road to Hana. At first, my wife was a bit skeptical (it had rained a few hours before). However, the parking lot attendants reassured us that it was perfectly safe to proceed. As soon as we began our trek, we were met with lush vegetation, beautiful plants and flowers native to the island, and the sound of birds chirping in the air. The Falls were raging when we arrived and we couldn't help ourselves- we jumped right into the water! Such an awesome experience for my kids! Afterwards, we stopped at a concession stand for some delicious treats and fresh coconut water!
