El Capitan Theatre - Be sure to check out the cool small museum downstairs

El Capitan Theatre

(1k reviews)

Hollywood

It's been so long since I went to El Capitan for a movie, so when we saw Hocus Pocus (a Halloween…read moreclassic) playing we decided it would be fun to see it. I forgot how majestic this theatre is. It's really beautiful and on par with the other historic movie houses in LA. Before the show they have a live organist who plays a lot of good tunes. We wished we had come even earlier to listen. It's a huge antique organ that come out of the floor to take the center stage. When the movie starts it goes back under! The snacks are pricy, but they have Disney themed stuff - the mickey pretzels are a favorite at Disneyland so it was fun to get one here. Staff was super nice. The place is very clean. Theovie was great and the theater was mostly empty. They validate parking across the street. They have displays of movie related stuff in the basement. All in all it's super fun and worth a few extra bucks to see a movie here.

If you are a Disney fan, the El Capitan Theatre is an absolute must-visit!…read more Beyond being one of the most beautiful movie palaces in Los Angeles, the El Capitan has an incredible history. Originally opening in 1926 as Hollywood's largest legitimate theater, it has hosted everything from Broadway productions to iconic film premieres, including Citizen Kane. After a meticulous restoration led by The Walt Disney Company, the theater reopened in 1991 and has since become Disney's flagship theater on Hollywood Boulevard. Today, it serves as Disney's home for world premieres, special events, live stage shows, and screenings of both new releases and beloved classics. The theater's stunning architecture and historic significance even earned it Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument status. I have seen countless Disney films here over the years and every visit feels special. The atmosphere, the themed displays, and the beautifully restored interior make it feel much more memorable than a typical movie theater outing. Another bonus is the convenient parking. You can park directly across the street at Ovation Hollywood and with validation from the theater, parking is just $3 for up to four hours. Whether you are a Disney enthusiast, a movie lover, or simply appreciate Hollywood history, the El Capitan Theatre is a true Los Angeles gem and well worth a visit.
