I took a taxi…read morefrom the airport in the past (I thought it was about €70) and traveling by train is a great option to have going to the downtown Lyon. Cost was €15 one way. Ticket machine takes cash but the bill has to be €20 or less. I only had €50 and €100 with me at that time, I had to borrow cash from my colleague. They have free wifi but it was a bit weak. Kept getting logged off but managed to send some emails. Train station was very clean, hardly any people. I really liked the designed of the train station, I spent most of the time taking pictures. Speaking on pictures, I was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the Mont Blanc from here. It is believed that if you can see the Mont Blanc clearly, it is about to rain. Sure enough it rained as soon as we arrived at the downtown Lyon. Train ride was comfortable. They have free wifi on the train, got some work done during a short ride.

Gare de Genève Cornavin seemed like I wasn't in Switzerland anymore. It was chaotic and definitely some sketchy characters walking around asking for money. There's no police/ security. Yes, they have a lot of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants at the station. You can also catch buses here. You have to pay attention to which station you need to be catching a bus from (arranged alphabetically but not in consistent order which was frustrating). Catching a bus is nuts. There's about 6 bus lines per station with at least 10 people waiting blocking the entrance to the main train station. It's only quiet here from 9pm-8am. I've caught a bus/ train at different times of the day. The busiest is in the afternoon but it's not like you have much of a choice if you need to be somewhere.

Coming off of our train, we entered a customs area but we weren't sure if we were supposed to exit or find our track and there was no one to ask. I will agree that it may have been because we're novices and I was the only person with any European train experience and I have never had to go though customs to exit a train before and I didn't want to make the wrong move. Luckily, the area we were in had a board with track numbers and once we saw our next train and it's track number we were confident to go through the customs area. Which btw was nothing, just some armed people watching us walk past them. This station is packed so be wary and bon chance!

Taking the train here from Paris (pre paid tickets months ago), we ended up on the wrong section of the train, actually on the wrong train?!?! They connected two trains together; I guess there was a huge demand today. So where was the sign that said my seats were in the front/first train...? Or in the rear second train...? Of course, now my wife and I are separated... My poor wife sat next to a sick coughing person. Glad I keep an extra N95 mask in my bag for emergencies like this. And I sat next to a woman on her phone talking for almost the entire 2 hour train ride... I think her battery and extended battery both died on this ride, lol. And to make matters worse, the people that the seats belonged to had a huge group, standing in the aisles, talking, rubbing their backs against my arm. On the train ride back, we went out of our way to confirm that we were on the correct train and seats! Ambiance - Was good, until we realized that we were in the wrong train and that there were two trains connected to each other. Service - NONE!! When we went to complain, the conductor said just to sit (or stand) anywhere... Good luck Price - 188 Euros, $229 US; not worth it for our experience. This very busy train station in Lyon, France is the primary railway station. It is like a shopping…read moremall inside with many restaurants, coffee shops and stores. The kiosks are spread throughout the main floor. There are counter purchase offices at one end on the second floor. Once ticket is purchased you have to keep look at the monitors to know which terminal the train will be. It is usually announced 15-20 minutes prior to departure. Restrooms are available on the second floor for 1 euro paid by credit card. There is some seating there but not too much in the whole train station. It still amazing how many trains travel through there.

We were able to get off our flight and make it to the clearly marked Uber pick-up almost immediately. This was really convenient for us as we had to be somewhere a few hours after landing. We noticed quite a few shopping and food options available in the arrivals section so I'm assuming there are a lot to choose from in departures. The airport is quite a bit away from Lyon city center but our Uber ride on a Monday at about 2pm was only 50 euro. You can also certainly make it to the city by tram much cheaper.

I wish I could give 0 stars, since I pre-paid for a service I didn't receive…read more I had a flight due to arrive at 11:30pm. Last Rhônexpress train is at midnight. I wondered if I should buy a ticket in advance, and their English website helpfully noted that if I am on a flight due in before midnight, but it's delayed, they will either hold the last train or arrange alternative transportation. (Yes, I have a screengrab) Of course, my flight is delayed and we get in about 1am. I'm carry-on only and one of the first off the plane so I briskly march out to the train station. Locked down like a vault. Back to the airport (somewhere between 5-10 minutes, depending on how fast you're going and whether travelators are working). I see a tiny screen saying it's done for the night, next train at 5am. Awesome. So why bother putting info on their website reassuring me they would have transport waiting for my delayed flight, when I already paid for a ticket? I had to pay for an expensive taxi into town, and am working to get a refund. This is absolutely shocking and was a horrible way to be "welcomed" to Lyon.

Be prepared to walk, walk, and walk some more…read more Walk off the plane. Walk more to passport control. Walk a long line to get your passport stamped and be asked the questions as you walk through customs and into Switzerland, only to walk more to the baggage claim to where you stand a good while to greet your luggage many minutes after your plane has landed and you stress as you think the same thing I always think about, did my luggage actually make it on the plane? Then you breathe a sigh of relief as you walk again to the train station which is a solid walk from the baggage claim as you then take a train into town, or in my case, a train to Lausanne, and then walk again to the train and maybe have to stand on the train because you waited until the ultimate last minute to buy a ticket. At which point you almost wish you had someplace to sit down. Not the best way to greet people into a gorgeous country, but at least things do improve from there (and believe me, they do).

At 1 pm I arrive in a Wednesday and still close in the same way, and now I am a bit in hurry the next day my bus is leaving, so besides deciding to try the next day I also decided to contact them online and by phone. On phone no one ever answered means online they answered me the first two question related to printing the ticket, the question about cancelling or changing they totally ignored it. At the end of this horrible experiences I tried again the day my bus was leaving and it was close, again, and I lost the money I pay for the ticket and heap, they had not reply yet. This is bad service, use the train instead .
