This funicular takes you up the Fourviere Hill, saving you a sweaty and breathless hike, depending on the weather and your pace. It's a rickety ol' boxcar whose fare is covered with a metro/transit ticket. It can hold a limited number of people but comes and goes often enough that if you miss one, another is sure to be on its way in no time. Just be prepared to fight over the first row of seats, some people (ie, tourists) can get really pushy!
Once you get up the hill, a panoramic view of the city awaits, and can be very beautiful if the weather is nice, and especially at certain times of the day. You can also check out the Basilica de Notre-Dame-de-Fourviere which always seems to have maintenance/construction going on whenever I visit!
Climb back down and you will likely end up in Vieux Lyon or by the Bourse, where you can find shops, restaurants, patisseries and other places offering sweets and other jollies to delight any tourist. read more
