The rhododendron garden at Point Defiance is an excellent place to take a short walk and take in the sights and scents of the woods before maybe heading down to Owen beach which is a short walk down the hill from the garden. If you're waiting for the rose & dahlia garden, which is also at Point Defiance, to come in to bloom, try stopping hear to see the rhodos. There are several different types and species of rhododendrons that are here and most are marked. I wouldn't say there are as many as there are at the Weyerhauser garden in Federal Way though. The trail can be muddy and uneven in points but it's easily accessible by almost all and could be even decent for kids. There is hardly any parking on the side of the road though so you may need to park elsewhere and just find your way back to the garden to take your walk. There is also a little pavilion within the gardens for if you are having a get-together or picnic and I'm not sure if it's available for rent or you just bring your stuff and get down to business. There are several different trails within the garden which are marked and you can find a map or several maps within the whole Point Defiance park to guide you where you want to be. It's an excellent and free way to spend an after noon or a way to get a short walk in prior to getting involved in any of the other activities Point Defiance has to offer.

    Such a gorgeous entrance

I found this botanical garden out of chance on a Sunday afternoon because my family wanted…read moresomewhere to walk around. Anyway, I didn't know this garden was located in the empty Weyerhaeuser building area. You should know that the garden is divided into two sections: the bonsai section is 100% donation. The other side, which contains all the Rhododendron plants, requires admission fees. I visited the garden expecting it to fully bloom in different color schemes like the Botanical Garden at the UW area, but everything was in green color. My husband mentioned that we'd need to revisit this garden but in the spring time, when the flowers would fully bloom then. Check out my photos for the garden view. I enjoyed the Bonsai section because we got to see the carpentry art from a dude, who basically built everything from wood sticks. The exhibit was cool to look at, in addition to the Bonsai tree collection displays. Now, I want a Bonsai tree myself!

Plants give me a sense of calmness and this place is like a hidden treasure which I never knew…read moreabout! This is right next to the Bonsai museum and the fall colors were amazing. I am coming back every fall to this garden. It's a beautiful round loop with lots of pathways and small, directions within the park. We had our stroller and were able to easily walk around the park. The falls colors including a climber on tall tree is amazing. The surprise is the greenhouse. It felt like I was in the Herbology class in Harry Potter. What a cute, breathtaking glasshouse with variety of plants. Right now, I am not in a stage of life where I can take care of plants but whenever I do, I am coming back to buy some plants. Lots of plants for sale! Lastly, friendly staff makes a lots of difference!
