Within walking distance from the multiple harbours in downtown Sydney, Broadway Shopping Centre…read morehouses two very famous American general merchandise retailers: Target and Kmart. I was curious how similar/different they would be from their US counterparts, so made the walk to this mall on a weekday. Broadway Shopping Centre is located in the Broadway locality of Sydney, Australia, and originally opened in 1998. It underwent major renovations in 2016, adding a food court. The names of the store are prominently displayed high on the side of the non-descript building from the outside. Since we didn't come from the attached parking garage, we had to find the external entrance. Once inside, one distinguishing feature are the very long sloped moving walkways that will take you up/down each level (instead of escalators). We stopped by specifically to do product searching, walking each level to see what was available. In a lot of ways, it's similar to a US indoor shopping mall, except instead of department stores being the anchors, here it is grocery stores and general merchandise stores.

The thing that strikes me the most about this place is that it is located in this absolutely…read moregorgeous building, or at least the frontage of the building remains as opposed to having been torn down from some modern monstrosity. The problem I found with this shopping centre though is that it can be a nightmare finding your way in, and out again, especially if you are not familiar with the area. However, it has a pretty decent number of stores, and it quite well stocked as well.

Seems silly to be writing this but I really liked the thought that went in to the toilets! The normal female toilets had a double width cubicle for fitting a pram in and also a cubicle with a little children's toilet. It's not often you find that in the regular toilets. Normally a lone mummy with a pram is forced to wait for disabled toilets or parents room toilets which in a busy centre can result in a long wait. Whilst the centre may have been slightly smaller than my local Chatswood Westfield the inclusion of the 3 major department stores along with the atmosphere meant that for me it was a winner! If only it was closer to me!

But I did like this one…read morebecause it was a "one stop shop" - it literally had everything from boutiques, grocery, restaurants, Target, a meat shop and Woolworth's. There are some good shops and then there are some to avoid and some newbies to try. Give the Coles…read moresupermarket a miss or at least the refrigerated section. Woolworths is a pretty big supermarket and generally gets most of that business. The food court has a nice sushi place for lunch. There is a new butcher that carries some deli items. The chicken shop is OK and even has garlic sauce for chicken. Harris Farm Markets is in the lower car park and is a way better option for fruit and veg than the supermarkets. Parking can be a pain and I have driven in and out some days without finding a spot. You also need to be a bit careful with the other drivers as there is poor lighting in some areas and when you combine that with people in a hurry trying to compete for a parking spot it becomes tiger country.

The whole shopping centre was redesigned a few years back but is still one of the worst designed in…read morethe area. Parking is a nightmare with a disjointed multi level car park filled with one way signs and tight turns. There are also a heap of ramps and sloped surfaces which makes for interesting viewing as people try to control full trolleys up and down hills. There are 3 main grocery stores in there; Woolies, Coles and Aldi, a heap of speciality stores and a small food court. It really is a bit small and the only good thing about it is that you can get in and get your groceries a bit quicker here than at Castle Towers. It also has a bigger range than the other neighbouring centre - Westfields North Rocks. Good for the weekly grocery shop but thats about all.

I feel Big W has a nicer clothing selection if you are looking for everyday pieces. They have the Peter Morrissey range which is great for ladies work/office attire and only have recently launched Lee Cooper a casual brand for ladies, mens and kids - great new addition!

Honesty they are great for anyone who can't walk too far. This shopping centre is spread out and to get from one floor to the other is a walk. The lifts are very slow and a wait. There are many restaurants on the outside of the centre and are open quite late. This shopping centre has it all, restaurants, cafes, good shops, supermarkets and movie theatres. Parking can be an issue....my suggestion is drive to the top and make your way down.

Look no further,…read morethis is the shopping centre of choice in Chaddy...let alone the entire North Shore :) Great food downstairs as you enter from Victoria Avenue. On the other hand, Chatswood Chase has forged a reputation for itself as the "fashion retail" capital of the area. Who could not agree more. There are an abundance of fashion styling and shopping night events on in this locale from time to time. A few new stores have recently opened here too. Even my favourite Lululemon. Chaddy Chase also has a pretty cool Apple store, and a mini kids playground in their kid-friendly area. If you're in the mood for shopping, a coffee break and lunch intertwined...then this is your place to "play."

The food court is very clean, with plenty of variety on offer from Indian to fast food. The sushi is super fresh and extra tasty. There is less of a crowd compared to Chatswood Westfield, which provides relief for those who dislike crowds (which I am sure is most of us). With less traffic, it is easier to shop and navigate your way around the centre. Chatswood Chase houses a number of high street and haute couture stores from Alannah Hill and Zimmermann to Lisa Ho and Veronika Maine. If you're looking for evening wear, Chatswood Chase is the place to go. Having forgotten where I parked my car, I asked the valet attendant to help me locate my car. He was very friendly and gave me ample instructions and directions. Overall, the thumbs up for Chatswood Chase.

They've obviously spent quite a bit of money on it and it has everything you need under the one roof now! Lots of food options, travel agents, fashion shops, telco shops, K-Mart, Aldi, Woolworths etc. Parking is a lot easier than it was before the makeover and it's now a really nice shopping centre to come to. Close to the train station too if you don't bring a car - about a 5 minute walk. I was impressed with how it looks now. A very pleasant environment to spend some time... and dollars!

It is open long hours and there is designated parking areas for picking up that large box, which later will lovingly be put together! Ha There are a range of good restaurants at the centre and Reading Theatre. Be careful that you drive in only once to the car park. You can't re enter during the same day, this is to prevent people driving in and driving out within 3 hours and hope to get another 3 free hours of parking. The number plates are photographed. I have seen people argue at the gate while the traffic is building up... not a pretty site.

Also barbers, hairdressers, beauty and pet store, butchers, fish monger. bakery, heath foods store as well a huge fruit and veg shop and lots of places to eat and free Wifi. The best coffee in the shopping centre is at Taste Baguettes. On Saturday's with markets in the park around the corner from the shopping centre, it gets very crowded and busy on Saturday afternoons.
