Ian Williams is my brother, so I'm obviously biased, but his handyman work and contracting work is…read moresuperb! He gave my husband and me the gift of the installation of a custom fold-down cutting board where a rickety fold-down ironing board used to be. This, of course, was totally his idea because he's creative like that. The cutting board is beautiful, solid, and functional, adding 30% more surface area to our kitchen. It's far superior to the ironing board that was there previously. He used top notch parts, sourced from specialty cabinet makers, to construct it. Ian was also timely and cleaned up after himself. I would feel confident hiring Ian for bigger projects, as I have seen him helping his former employer (my Dad) build bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and more. Sure, I may be his sister, but I'm his older sister and thus prone to harsh judgement... so you know you can trust my review, and Ian with all of your handyman needs.

Ian completed a bathroom remodel in our 1940s town house. Before Ian came to our aid, the bathroom…read morewas a nightmare--kelly green tile, broken prefab shower, water damage, and crumbling studs. Ian reframed our space and created a luxurious corner shower complete with an inset shelf for shampoo. His tiling job was excellent! He also thought to create a handy door to a water shut off that will be a huge help if we have issues in the future! Despite having a full bath steps from our bedroom, my husband and I both shower in the basement now, enjoying our spa-like retreat from Hilltop Renovations! Ian was a considerate worker while in our home. He took care of our living spaces by laying drop cloths and covering furniture to minimize drywall dust. He was super pleasant and personable--the dog missed him when our job was done. We highly recommend Ian for your next project. Margot and Nathan D.

I recently hired Joe for two small jobs at my house. First I had some dry rot in a board beneath my…read moreback door from poor installation years ago and Joe replaced it, as well as fixing an issue with the flashing at the ledger board behind it. I also had him strip and repaint the trim around the side door into my garage (while doing that he also removed some dry rot and sealed everything to prevent any issues in the future). Scheduling was a little rocky due to the snow and weather, but I didn't mind at all because the work was high quality and I'm exceptionally happy with the final product I got! Would happily hire him again in the future!

I contracted Joo to remodel my bathroom and laundry room back in April of 2023. He said he could…read morecomplete the job in 3 weeks. it took nearly 5 months and the work was HORRIBLE. Before I could even enjoy my shower the tile walls started cracking. There was a big hole in one tile that had been filled in with grout to hide. The tiles on the bathroom floors started coming up immediately. There were so many things wrong. I eventually had to hire another contractor to come in and demo EVERYTHING that Joe had done, and redo my entire bathroom again. When the new contractor took out the shower, we found that the pipes had cuts in them and Joe had just covered them up. Everything that Joe did had to be replaced because of the poor installation. I paid him over 28k, and I paid for most of the materials myself. He is very dishonest, and made promises that he NEVER intended to keep. He said he would call me to schedule a meeting to talk about a refund, and he hasn't returned any of my calls, emails or text. if you are considering him for a job, DON'T!!!!! He and his workers who are not licensed, scratched my laminate flooring in 3 rooms. Unfortunately my flooring is no longer available so the rooms would need to be completely replaced. He said he could fix the scratches, but he hasn't. He has no regard for personal property.

When I went back for a closer look, I could immediately see that one line of caulking was wet and dripping down the shower. I had to redo that line just a day after he left. Every line it either cracking or falling apart already (see picture). If you can't do the job correctly, then don't reach out to people about the work
