(3.5 Stars) First time trying the place. Did not get the health inspection score this visit. The service was good when I walked in the gentleman greeted me. Was on a cake slice run, they didnt have individual cake slices so I got two cupcakes, one with chocolate frosting and one with buttercream. I saw sticky buns that looked good so I got one of those too. The chocolate frosted cupcake was tasted as to be expected and that's what I pretty much wanted. Nothing extra special but it was good. The buttercream one was pretty bland, and I likely would not purchase it again. The sticky bun, however, was really good. I would definitely buy one of those again from this bakery. read more

I am a self-proclaimed "frosting" connoisseur, and I adore the white frosting at Rhodes. Every other frosting is too heavy, too sweet, too whipping cream-like. And while I'm sure it is my personal preference, I feel it is the best. If only they weren't so far from me; I wish I could uber their cakes and cupcakes. read more

I love Rhodes Bakery! My father grew up in Atlanta and adored their caramel cake. Every birthday he would regale us all with the stories of how much he enjoyed the caramel cake from Rhodes Bakery growing up. they are located in the Brookwood grill shopping center just on Holcomb Bridge. I ordered Petit fours for a party I was having. They are delicious. The folks at the shop are super friendly. And of course the Cheese snaps/straws. I can't get enough of them. Sad.... The two items I tried were not great; both seemed to be at least two or three days old and were also lacking in flavor. The chocolate cupcake was dry, and the frosting was not chocolatey at all. The cinnamon bun was dry, very sweet, and lacking in cinnamon. The cheese straws were good, albeit flat. I was going to buy some butter cookies until I was told they're not made with butter.... I wanted to try this old timey bakery even though I kind of knew what to expect. Rhodes is one of the last family owned bakeries in Roswell, and even Atlanta. I love this bakery, but was sad to see that even they are giving you less pastry for the same price. Their cheese cookies are visibly smaller than before the downward turn in the economy ,but are the same price. I just hope they can stay in business. read more

Its unfortunate that an attempt to support a local business would go so poorly. My wife wanted to get me a birthday cake on Saturday, kind of last minute but this place was open and said they could do the job. It was probably the worst cake I have ever had. It was amateurish in its construction and was drier than and tasted much like sandpaper. Would have been better if they had just said they couldn't do the job. For the $30 it cost, I could have burned the money and probably had a better experience. read more

I am not here to badmouth Rhodes Bakery. They have been in Atlanta for a zillion years and I am sure that they do some things great. What I WILL say is that I would NOT suggest going to this bakery if you have a design in mind for a cake - this is NOT your place for that. I went ahead of time and showed them a photo of a relatively simple design for my son's birthday party and when I went to pick up I was in tears. With the birthday party within hours there was no time to go somewhere to have the cake re-done. I went to Rhodes Bakery the day before my son's birthday party, hoping they might have a cake I could take home and decorate for my son's shark-themed party. They didn't have any, but they offered to make one for me for $85. I wasn't expecting much (my usual bakery would have charged me almost $400), but I was so pleased! Their customer service was fantastic and the cake was beautiful - just what I wanted. I thought about leaving a 4-star rating instead of a 5-star rating because the cake (vanilla) was a little bit dry, but considering the price and the last-minute rush, I think it's worth 5-stars! We purchased some petit fours and cheese straws from this Rhodes Bakery location the other day. I thought the petit fours were good, but maybe not quite my taste. I bit into one expecting a flavor like buttercream, but instead I tasted mostly sugar. It was a fine complement to my coffee, but I'd prefer a more flavorful cake. The cheese straws had a sharp, savory taste and were really good! The straws held up well and the texture was not too crumbly. I can't speak for any other items at Rhodes Bakery because I haven't tried them, but I've heard excellent things about their caramel cake. read more

With two Atlanta locations, my introduction to the delectable delights came about in 2004 during an office birthday party. For the past few years, office birthday after office birthday, all the cakes were from Rhodes Bakery. Fortunately I had access to all of the yummy slices from an array of cakes; however I wasn't truly satisfied until I went to the actual bakery. Best bakery ever!!! We have used this bakery my entire life and my children and now grandchildren. George Sr has always been the best. I remember Mrs. Rhodes at the register many years ago, and now they have expanded to a new store. This is the best place for cakes, cheese straws , cupcakes and any sweet. It's in a strip mall and didn't feel like a bakery. No bread and limited selection of cookies, danish and cheese straws. Cheese straws were magnificent but cookies were hard and neither appeared all that fresh. I felt like they had taken the leftover unsold bakery items from the main store and brought them to resell. Sad to see the Cheshire Bridge location close, but totally understand why it had to happen. I'm closer to Roswell location now. The people and quality are still the best. My friends now ask me for decorated cakes from Rhodes when there's an anniversary or special occasion to celebrate. They're beautiful (prettiest roses!) and delicious. Their cheese straws and petit fours are very good. Unfortunately, i recently ordered a cake for an engagement party, and it was terrible. I wanted something more dense than the traditional yellow cake so the lady told me the pound cake was better. I asked if she could layer it with a filling, and she said it was no problem. The actual cake was not layered and incredibly dry. None of my guests finished their piece, some of them only taking a bite. As for the decoration of the cake, I told them the colors were brown and light blue. The actual cake was electric blue, so not matching the rest of the party decorations. I also requested a guitar and teapot (personal joke for the couple) and everything was drawn in shades of brown and electric blue! I thought it was odd that they didn't ask if i wanted to use black/white or any other colors. Granted, I did tell her to use her best judgement, which was my mistake - I should have been very specific. But given the cakes in their catalog of past cakes, it seemed to be a good choice at the time. All this being said, it was not an attractive cake. I will not order a cake from them again, but I would order the petit fours. read more

Desserts dont even look attractive in the case, but we tried a few anyway and OMG. When dude put my 4 pastry orders in a single ziplock bag, I was done. Never been to hood joint that put my food in a ziplock . Tell me that aint tacky AH. Tasted the caramel cupcake- dry as wood. Then tried the cinna raisin bun- hard and dry. Threw away the pinwheel looking things cuz no need to add fat and calories on BS food. Glad I had the experience and know for a fact that this place is GARBAGE. After driving by this place a few times, I decided to try it...ugh. The petit fours were doable, but the basic yellow cupcake with white icing was dry. I'm not sure how long it was in there. The staff is nice but I would NEVER recommend this bakery to anyone who want a specifically themed/unique kind of cake. They totally butchered the version of the cake I wanted for my sons birthday and the cake itself didn't even taste that good?! I also ordered a cake for my Dads birthday that was supposed to be a "mocha" cake but that didn't taste good either ... I was hoping with the good reviews posted it'd be worth it to try again but I'll never go here again. The prices are great and the staff are kind but not worth sacrificing the quality.
