Big Ed's Lawn Service Is a Scam…read more We hired Big Ed's Lawn Service in early June 2025 and paid up front as they requested, hoping to get the job done quickly. I'm recovering from surgery and physically unable to handle the lawn myself. With weeds getting out of control, I was depending on them to follow through , especially since we're at risk of a visit from code enforcement. After they received our payment, Big Ed's completely disappeared. No job done. No refund. No responses to multiple follow-ups. This is not just unprofessional; this is a scam. They took the money and vanished. Do not trust this business with your time or money. Avoid at all costs.

This business, which is not the one I was directly interested in, replied to my quote immediately via email. The response repeated some of the information I gave in the quote request, assured me they would be the right people for the job, and asked me to call the number listed on the page here. Despite the one-star rating, I decided to give it a chance and see what happened. When I gave them a call, a man answered the phone and gave the company name he worked for, which was not Shadyside Lawn Services. I didn't quite catch the name, and should have asked the man on the other end to repeat it if I'd had any presence of mind, but instead I asked him if they were the same business as Shadyside Lawn Services, already in doubt. He told me that he could get me in contact with "a lawn service" if that's what I needed, but that the business he worked at was not a lawn service in and of itself. It was difficult to bring the conversation to an end and hang up after trying to explain that I must have gotten a wrong number or made a mistake, but he wasn't impolite or rude, just persistent.

Switched from a nationally-known franchise to Lawn Sense at the beginning of 2015 and couldn't be…read morehappier! Besides the quality of the product being used, and the care with which it is applied, there are two aspects of Lawn Sense's service that are especially appreciated: 1) they call at least 24hrs in advance to advise you of the upcoming application, which allows sufficient time to mow lawn or carry out any other steps in preparation for treatment. 2) after treatment, the technician provides detailed notes not only on what was applied, but also subjective and objective observations about current state of lawn, problem areas (if any), suggested corrective actions (if necessary), etc. This is extremely valuable as the customer obtains both a broad overview of the health of their lawn, and a detailed understanding of what is being - and should be - done ongoing. Lastly would just compliment Lawn Sense of their professionalism and their customer-centric attitude. REALLY a pleasure to deal with this company and recommend them to you without reservation.
