I found Emily online and saw she had some decent reviews, though few. My initial interactions with Emily were great - she responded to my email request promptly, answered all my concerns, and was great when we met in person. She promised that her team would finish the returns in time for Tax Day and that we would have time to review and approve it. When I didn't hear any updates at all, I grew concerned but I gave them the benefit of the doubt since it was their busiest season. But when I didn't hear anything back on Monday (the day BEFORE Tax Day), I followed up. Emailed and got no response so I called and was finally able to get an update that my returns would be sent electronically to review and approve. Waited all day and still didn't get anything so followed up again. After a few back and forth we finally received the returns, reviewed and approved them and asked for an email confirmation that it was submitted. The CPAs I've worked with in the past have always sent an email confirmation or screenshot of the submitted returns to the IRS. We did not get any email confirmation from Emily's team so it made it worried that it wasn't submitted on time, especially since we've been having poor communication from them. When I followed up again, they were quick to ask me for payment for their services. I paid promptly hoping I would get the email confirmation for IRS submittal but still didn't get any confirmation that the returns were sent. I literally just needed a call, text, or email saying it was submitted on time. I followed up AGAIN with another email inquiring and FINALLY they said they submitted it to the IRS but would be emailing it to us shortly for my husband and I to e-sign. We never received the files to e-sign, unsurprisingly. I finally went in person to sign it because the email never came. My husband couldn't sign in person so I asked that they still email it so that my husband could e-sign. Let's just say he still hasn't received the returns to sign. It might not have been as bad if they didn't tell us multiple times they would be sending us something shortly to review or sign. We ended up waiting multiple times for items that were never sent (because it was the day BEFORE it was due). This is a fixable issue. Communcation is key and a quick follow up goes a long way. I don't feel it's the client's responsibility to chase after the CPA who is hired to do a job. It was a bit unprofessional for me. It's not to say I won't work with them again but they really need to improve their communication.

1 Star -- Do Not Give This Firm Access to Your Business or Bank Accounts…read more Based on my personal experience, I strongly recommend avoiding BASC Expertise. This firm is overpriced, constantly nickel-and-diming for basic requests, and extremely difficult to work with. Simple asks routinely come with surprise charges -- asking for a small favor can easily turn into an unexpected $1,000+ bill. Over the course of our relationship, our taxes were messed up multiple times, which created unnecessary stress and cleanup work. Despite paying them thousands of dollars, accountability was never taken. Instead of addressing client concerns, anyone who raises issues is labeled a "disgruntled client" or accused of lying rather than the firm taking ownership of its mistakes. A major red flag: they do not allow clients access to their own QuickBooks, while simultaneously requiring full access to your bank accounts. Even worse, Deirdre inserts herself onto business paperwork, making it intentionally difficult to leave once you realize the relationship isn't working. The most alarming issue: during a legitimate contract dispute, they attempted to withdraw $36,000 from our bank account without permission or prior resolution. This was not authorized, was not agreed to, and happened while the matter was actively being disputed. That alone should make any business owner think twice before trusting this firm with their finances. Communication is another constant issue. Deirdre is frequently out of office or on vacation and often unavailable when you actually need support. Yet the firm has no problem charging premium rates regardless of service quality or responsiveness. Despite presenting themselves as a full accounting firm, there is no licensed CPA on staff. They will still try to operate as if they are indispensable to your business and push arrangements that feel unethical and heavily one-sided. There are far better, more transparent, and more affordable accounting services available that actually employ CPAs and don't lock clients into questionable agreements. Bottom line: If you value control over your own books, ethical billing, clear communication, and not having someone dip into your bank account during a dispute -- go anywhere else. This year a provided them with a completed 8938 and asked them to file that with my tax return. My invoice added $50 for the privilege. Upon querying this and requesting a refund Rachel Hutzler told me they could not file the completed 8938 as requested, they used mine to create another verify it against the one I had provided and filed it. They did not follow my instructions and did not advise me of such just went head saying they were following their own policies. After going backwards and forwards several times Rachel Hutzler has refused to refund my $50 and there was no indication that she forwarded my request to be considered by a higher authority within the company. I pointed out that if they told me they would not be following my instructions and were going to charge me $50 I would have filed it myself
