1 Star -- Do Not Give This Firm Access to Your Business or Bank Accounts Based on my personal experience, I strongly recommend avoiding BASC Expertise. This firm is overpriced, constantly nickel-and-diming for basic requests, and extremely difficult to work with. Simple asks routinely come with surprise charges -- asking for a small favor can easily turn into an unexpected $1,000+ bill. Over the course of our relationship, our taxes were messed up multiple times, which created unnecessary stress and cleanup work. Despite paying them thousands of dollars, accountability was never taken. Instead of addressing client concerns, anyone who raises issues is labeled a "disgruntled client" or accused of lying rather than the firm taking ownership of its mistakes. A major red flag: they do not allow clients access to their own QuickBooks, while simultaneously requiring full access to your bank accounts. Even worse, Deirdre inserts herself onto business paperwork, making it intentionally difficult to leave once you realize the relationship isn't working. The most alarming issue: during a legitimate contract dispute, they attempted to withdraw $36,000 from our bank account without permission or prior resolution. This was not authorized, was not agreed to, and happened while the matter was actively being disputed. That alone should make any business owner think twice before trusting this firm with their finances. Communication is another constant issue. Deirdre is frequently out of office or on vacation and often unavailable when you actually need support. Yet the firm has no problem charging premium rates regardless of service quality or responsiveness. Despite presenting themselves as a full accounting firm, there is no licensed CPA on staff. They will still try to operate as if they are indispensable to your business and push arrangements that feel unethical and heavily one-sided. There are far better, more transparent, and more affordable accounting services available that actually employ CPAs and don't lock clients into questionable agreements. Bottom line: If you value control over your own books, ethical billing, clear communication, and not having someone dip into your bank account during a dispute -- go anywhere else. I've been working with this firm for years. Deirdre has been our main point of contact for this time. The words that come out of her mouth do not match her actions. Over and over again she deflects, dodges and misconstrues directions to cover her mediocrity. The customer service is poor, the tone is rude, the messages truculent. This is while she touts herself as professional and above such petty behavior. If you like interacting with such people, by all means engage with this firm. Enjoy your nightmare. read more

Last October my husband and I ran into an issue with a past tax year with the IRS. I had a debt cancellation and had no idea that needed to be counted as income since I never received the proper tax form from the agency it was through. To make sure we took care of it the proper way, we searched for a CPA. At first everything seemed fine, even though her fee seemed high my husband and I decided to pay and go with her advice because we really needed help. The IRS did not accept the changes recommended by Deidre because there were errors on the amended return she made. When I reached back out to her for what we should do next, she pretty much replied back that we were on our own. It really left a feeling of that she just took our money and didn't care what happened after that. After hours of time online and reading on the IRS website of what we needed to do, I was able find another option for my husband and I. I just needed to request a copy of the 1040 and 1040X that BASC Expertise had refiled and completed for us as I never received an electronic copy and I mailed the physical copy provided. I emailed and waited a couple days, no response. So, I called and spoke to Nancy, she set up a time for Deidre to call us. Except when that time came, Nancy called me back and said that Deirdre told her she doesn't handle the new form we were trying to file. I informed her that I don't need her to but I need a copy of what they filed. She said she would get that uploaded for me. Another day goes by and I get an email that they don't have a copy of my returns they did. I emailed back informing that according to IRS website, they are required to retain a copy for minimum 3 years. I am currently awaiting a response. I will never use this office again. Deirdre just wants to do what will make her the most money, not what is best for her clients. I have a complete feeling that she is just trying to push us off because she's already got paid from us. ****UPDATE 6-3-2020*** They want to charge me $150 to install the software needed to pull their own archives. Wowww ***Update 6-4-2020*** I received a call from a manager in the office in attempt to make things right. I was able to speak to another accountant, Tosha. She was very professional and displayed a much needed willingness to help. She was not able to provide the original copies still but she did walk me through what I needed to do from here. So I am thankful for Tosha and the manager handling the yelp reviews. I changed my rating to 3 stars because they did attempt to make it right and Tosha was very helpful. I still feel that Deirdra was not honest with us and I will not use her for any further tax needs. ***Update 6-19-202*** as well as writing this review, I placed a review on BBB because this woman does not deserve an A rating. Here is her response so you can see the level of professionalism Deirdre holds. Note this is a direct quote as seen in the screen shot so misspelling is hers. ...Comment from the Business: "I'm sorry mom of this is true we have the correspondence to prove it. Just an excuse for extortion using reviews. We could not help her by doing something illegal so we refused. by on 6/19/2020" I have correspondence as well and shared in pics. Not sure how asking for copies of my own return is illegal or asking her to review an apparent error she made is illegal. Consumers beware with this woman! For her insulting response I updated the star rating again because that is inexcusable. I have also added some pics of what I asked her for since she would like to lie some more. My advice for anyone else, find an actual CPA and stay away from this office. read more

BASC seemed great at the start which justified the high price, however it took weeks for them to even start on our project. Communication was frustratingly slow and disorganized. Finally after months of of this we asserted our concerns to the owner and asked to get things in track. Deidre, the owners response was quitting our project which resulted in missed deadlines and fees. Since that time we found a great firm for half the cost. read more

We started with them in February and pulled out in September. Unfortunately we were buying a house so we could not make a change. Dierdre depreciated 90% a piece of equipment in the FIRST year instead of spreading it across 5 years! We sold equipment and she still shows us owning the equipment. To date I have never received my quarterly payroll reports and after requesting them, I was told that I had to pay an additional $100 per company if I wanted them. Per my contract with them, my quarterly reports are included at no additional charge. I would not recommend them. When you leave their firm, they want you to pay them $500 for YOUR INFORMATION THAT BELONGS TO YOU. Go with a real CPA firm that will not hold your information hostage! read more

I am learning that finding a competent, professional and reliable accountant is an unbelievably difficult task. I am looking for someone new as my current accountant routinely takes in excess of one week to reply to the simplest questions. I contacted BASC and met with Deirdre and all seemed well, until they asked me to fill out their questionnaire - the standard form they all use asking about all of your assets and personal information. Unfortunately, instead of sending me a blank form, they accidentally sent me another client's completed form - including all of their financial information, their social security numbers and their ban account numbers!
