On another site, the Rex Motel had so many rave reviews and unbelievable complements that when I checked it out myself, the price alone for a room big enough for my family was good to go. We kind of had to book last minute, and we paid up front. It was about 45% less than staying at the name branded hotels in the heart of Niagara. The original motel from back in the day, this is a 15(?)-room motel that is clean and a great value for the money. The bathroom shower was even better than a lot of name brand hotels I've stayed at. The family suite, #14, was a bit tight, but it did have separate rooms to keep my kids and us apart. In the kid's room, there was a daybed and double bed. In our room was a queen. All of the mattresses were uncomfortable. They reminded me of camp with worn out springs and just really need updating. The one room had a microwave and mini fridge. Air conditioning was not controlled in the room, but there were two fans which you could set up. We ended up opening the window and putting the fans out to blow on us overnight. The rooms were clean and had a light Caribbean theme. One toilet was difficult at times for us...not for not working, but only one for our family. No carpets, but appeared to be newly replaced laminate wood flooring. Each room had a small flat screen tv about a decent computer monitor size. There is also free Wi-Fi which worked quite well. No deadbolt on the door, just the doorknob lock. The hook/latch inside the door was broken and someone only left part of it attached to the wall. The owner(?) operator was more than accommodating and did everything possible to make sure our stay was enjoyable. I saw him interacting with a lot of the guests and he was just as interested in their well-being as with us. The motel is just far enough away from the carnival-like atmosphere of the main strip to be just a short drive to where you needed to go. The manager was nice to point out all of the cheapest parking, and we even found some free parking because of an unchecked broken gate! I would like to stay again at the Rex, but only if I found out they replaced the mattresses. None of us really slept that well. This was a major negative. But everything else was just fine and customer service was great. My photos were taken quickly as we were leaving, so the beds were stripped and I did not take my time. I will always be proud of finding the Rex Motel and choosing to book a room there. It's important to me to save money, but it's even more important to have a clean room. The Rex was among the most affordable accomodations in Niagara Falls, and that room was spotless. I mean really spotless. Add to that the ease of parking. (We initially booked and cancelled a room at a Ramada where, even as hotel guests, we would have had to pay for daily parking. And this is true for most Niagara Falls hotels.) The Rex Motel provided us with a comfortable king sized bed, a nicely furnished room, a bistro table inside and out front (we used both) and incredibly good water pressure. There were even bottles of cold water waiting for us in the mini-fridge.  I note that the room was not spacious. If you were hoping to go to Niagara Falls to practice ballroom dancing in your hotel room, this is probably not the place for you.  It is in a different neighborhood from the mayhem of Clifton Hill. It is quiet. We slept wonderfully at night. Even on Canada Day when one might have expected to hear some revelry.  I believe the drive to the Falls themselves was about seven minutes. The motel owners, who are terribly nice and helpful, pointed out to us where we could find free or really cheap parking. We used their tips to save a lot of money. They also directed us to some wonderful dining that we never would have found on our own. A 7-11 is essentially across the street and a gas station is next door. A larger grocery store is just down the road.  Our entire long weekend in Niagara Falls could not have been easier or more pleasant, and that is chiefly because we were wise enough to book a room at the Rex Motel. read more

Could be some improvements. No thermostats in the room and bed on wheels. But still not bad at all the price was right. The owners try their best to be as accommodating as possible. They even left a baked treat in the room for us. I love the concept of themed rooms. We were in the Paris room. Small details made all the difference. So worth the cost. read more

Clean rooms, friendly service. Only complaint is the noise. Motel is on a busy road and you hear the traffic into the night, starting back up in the early morning. Otherwise, great location for getting into Downtown Niagara, without being in the heart of the activity. Also great location for other sightseeing, like Niagara On The Lake. 7-11 across the way and next door a gas station with k-cup coffee service and convenience items. Half mile away to Tim Hortons and other fast food. WalMart and grocery close by as well. Beds are comfortable, water pressure is fine. We were very happy with our stay. read more

What a gem this motel is, I will never stay anywhere else when I visit Niagara Falls. I called and grabbed their last room - family suite, we would have one of the rooms. I advised we'd be arriving a little later into the night and no problem, we were left a key. A few hours later the owner calls and says she just got a spot open for a King room and would upgrade us to that - that was very unexpected and appreciated! When we arrived I was so shocked at how clean and fresh it smelled and looked, I have paid for rooms twice the price for worse condition! Each room has a theme, this one was the Caribbean I believe, regardless it was well put together and enjoyable to stay in. The owner also knew we would be coming in late from the city so she made sure to leave us some dinner on the table before we got in. Fantastic customer service from start to finish! An excellent value for the money, if you can over look two things. Categorically speaking: Location: 4 out of 5 For us, this was a great location. It was away from the touristy area, it was close to main roads including QEW and McLeod, and it wasn't more than a 5 - 7 minute drive to the Falls area. If you do approach from the US via QEW, exit at McLeod, go east, and the motel will be on your left hand side by a Pioneer gas station. For those of you that are frugal, you'll also be excited to know that there is a grocery store not far from the motel (Food Basics). Price: 4.5 out of 5 For what you get, it's not too bad at all. I think the total ended up being 120$ USD for 2 nights when I went this past weekend. That's off peak, I'm sure - but still very reasonable considering the fact that all of the hotels by the falls were at LEAST 100$ per evening. Amenities: 3.5 out of 5 This is a mom and pop motel, so please don't expect any high class exercise facilities, room service, on-site spa, etc. There are a total of 17 distinct rooms, and we were in the "Romance" room. It consisted of a bed, mini fridge, mini microwave, a shower (no tub), basic non-boutique toiletries, a 19" or so TV, and a little plug-in radiator. I think what they do is set the temperature to be about 65 F, and then you're able to raise the temperature up using the radiator. It wasn't overbearingly cold when we went, so the radiator was just fine. I can imagine though, that when it's quick frigid in the winter months, they might need to adjust their thermostat accordingly. Cleanliness: 5 out of 5 Absolutely crystal clear that they do their best to make the motel look as good as possible. Each room, I hear - is uniquely decorated, and ours did not disappoint. As an added bonus, they even made me a set of towel swans upon my return on the second evening. Customer service: 5 out of 5 It's a mom and pop shop, and the "mom" (Emily I think her name is) was the main person I encountered. She stays up later (till at least midnight) manning the front office, and wakes up at around 8 or 9 to check people out. Upon arriving, she was quick to make sure that I didn't have to fill out any unnecessary paperwork, and when all of the boring stuff was done, she gave me a plate of home made Bulgarian pastries that she had just baked a few hours before. Who does that?! The next morning, not only did she provide me with a map of the Falls area, but she explained the different parts too: the touristy, the Niagara on the Lake area, and what we could do with our time to maximize our cost/benefit ratio. She was spot on with everything - from the prices of parking to the attractions. I can't say enough good things about how we were treated. Two things to consider: At least in #17, these are two things that you may want to keep in mind if you have traveling companions who aren't as flexible. 1) Street noise. Since the motel is right off of McLeod, you will hear cars and trucks go past during the night. Since I am used to this, it was a comforting sound and it didn't bother me in the least. However, it is something to be aware of if you live in more pastoral areas with little car traffic. 2) "Thin" walls and placement of vents. If you happen to be placed next to boisterous people, those that are "celebrating" their love, or just people who are louder, this could be a concern. I finally came to the conclusion that I wasn't hearing people through the walls, but instead - I was hearing them through the shared vents. This situation was easily remedied by me turning on the TV to TSN. If you sleep with ear plugs, though - I don't think this will be a problem at all. Overall: 5 out of 5 Loved my stay here - just be aware of my two pointers, and you should be completely fine. Best of luck to them in the future. read more

Not your ordinary motel! The rooms are adorable, the owner is amazing, and the price can't be beat! I visited Niagara in July 2013 with my boyfriend and booked the Rex after reading so many positive reviews. We were met by the owner who let us choose which room we wanted (all the rooms are cute and themed), gave us tips on where to go and park, and made us feel so at home! This is motel just warms your heart. From the conversations with owner at check-in, complete with recommendations of the area and a delicious slice of apple pie we knew this was the place to be. You can easily tell, the finer details make this place truly worth your night. Each room hosting a different theme, the colors and decoration set this apart from any other stay we had on our trip. I can't say enough about this place. For our first anniversary we wanted to go to Niagara Falls but didn't want to spend a ton of money. With little searching I found this motel. When I tell you how impressed I am, it really won't translate - because this is the internet. You have to go, and find out! To give you some background though, I'm used to 4-5 star hotels. The bed was super comfortable, an abundance of pillows were provided. The room was SPOTLESS. The shower had great water pressure. It was insanely quiet and it was only a couple blocks from all the attractions. The staff is all family and provided great recommendations for places to eat and park as well! read more

Quaint and terrific and reasonably priced. My boyfriend and I went for a winter visit to the falls and found this motel based on online reviews. It did not disappoint. The owners were incredibly friendly and the room (Italy :) ) was homey. You can tell that the owners really put their heart into this place, and it reflects in the warmth created in the atmosphere. The woman told us, "I dislike the word customer, when you come to my home, you are my guest". We will be repeat customers for sure. read more

Amazing stay! My fiance and I stayed here in July of '12 and were really glad we went with Rex Motel over the mainstream Hotels by the Falls. The drive to the falls is about 5 minutes if that and definitely worth the savings. You don't have to pay for parking (like many of the hotels in the area) and you get some great amenities like a fridge, an eat in area in your room and FREE WiFi. Yes in the world of 15 dollar a night WiFi, The Rex Motel offers it for FREE!! . PLUS great friendly owners!! The hospitality really felt like we were staying with friends. Emily (one of the owners) gave us great tips on what to see and where to go. Plus, she sold us tickets to some great attractions which are redeemable once you're down by the falls in the Rock Castle looking building. The rooms are exceptionally clean and you can tell they take pride in their business. It was also great to know that at the end of the night, you could retreat to a quiet relaxing place away from the tourist filled areas. The Rex is also close by to grocery stores and different dining options. With a fridge in the room, it made it easy to buy waters, breakfast items/ yogurts and keep them in the room. Each room has a different theme/ style which makes the stay fun, we had the providence room and it was perfect for us. I made sure to send them a post card from Texas as soon as I got home. Me and my husband loved staying here for our one year anniversary. The facility is owned and operated with love by a sweet family who give excellent customer service. It's like staying at a friends place who is concerned with making you feel as comfortable as possible. And yes its very clean! It was fine being a little further from the falls because there was no parking fee like there was at most all other hotels and they offer great suggestions where to park free or cheap near the falls which is only like a 5 min drive. My wife and I stayed there for an overnighter in Niagara Falls. The front desk staff is exceptionally helpful, and knowledgeable about the area. The rooms are well appointed with above average bedding. The only drawback is that each room does not have individual heat and air conditioning controls however, this was acceptable as the temperature was appropriate for the time of year. My wife and I will definitely stay at this hotel again whenever we return to the Niagara Falls area. NOTE: Each room looks different, we had the Mediterranean room. read more

Clean room at a reasonable rate. BUT there is no thermostat in the room. We stayed in January. I found it cool and when we asked the owner about the heat he said he'd turn it up a bit and then brought us a heater. Then the air out of the one vent seemed cooler not warmer. This is enough for me not to stay here again despite all the pluses. I like to control the tempature of my room. Plus the bag of open chips behind the cabnat. I do not recommend if you're interested In a good nights sleep!!! I was up until 3:00am listening to people arguing in the parking lot and playing music. Through my window I could see people drinking heavily and partying in the parking lot. This was actually quite frightening for my children. I made several attempts to contact a manager or person in charge but only got a voice recording. I tried to discuss the issue with the manager in the morning and she accused me of lying!! She said, "no such thing could happen. No party. No crowds. You lie sir" I am appalled by the way I was treated and do not recommend this CHEAP excuse for a motel to anyone!!!! read more

Lovely hosts at an adorable little gem off the main thoroughfare. I have never been in a motel, at any price, as clean as the Rex Motel. The Romance room is a sweet little room and comfortable enough for a day or two. Our hosts clued us into to free and cheap parking areas near the Falls. I used Yelp to select the motel. The pictures show the detail and intentionality with which the owners share with their guests. When we drove up it appeared to be a standard motel in a fairly residential area. We were a little unsure. The owner was very nice. The room was just beautiful and I felt at home immediately. The bed in a king room was comfortable with a beautiful wall mural (see photo) and a cute table with two mugs and saucers. There was a refrigerator and microwave we didn't use. There was also a small table fan. The bathroom towels were so incredibly soft...better than almost any big scale hotel. You do have to pack a hair dryer. There were packets of shampoo/conditioner too. Overall it is a great place to stay. It was fairly quiet at night too...just a few cars that drove by in the night. The room was extremely clean. The only thing missing was a thermostat in the room but the fan made it quite comfortable. read more

SCAM!!!! They do not have up to code fire safety systems so do not expect a deadbolt on the door. All they have is a turn lock on the handle! Totally unsafe if you have anything you don't want stolen. The hotel is right off the road. People are Standing outside the rooms blasting music and smoking. I was personally HARASSED by other guests so my husband and I didn't stay more than 20 minutes. The woman working was terrible, refusing a refund even though we didn't unpack out bags. Most of the former reviews have thoroughly expressed their satisfaction with this motel and I echo most of the opinions. The affordability of this motel compelled me to reserve for 2 nights last week. Upon pulling up, I was a little concerned based on my first impressions. But once we were checked in and had received advice by the manager as to where to visit and where to park the cheapest, I felt better. Unlike other guests comments, we were not advised as to where to park for free and never found free parking during our visit. My concerns subsided when I opened the door to our room and found that it was adorably decorated in a beach-y theme. The room appeared clean and the microwave and fridge were added bonuses. However, we were put off by the inability to control our own A/C temps and after several minutes we figured out the situation. It would have been nice to have been told ahead of time what to expect. The other off-putting fact was that there was a lingering odor of Chinese food in our room as if a restaurant had fumes piped in continuously. It was a faint smell, but obvious and really distracting. Other than that, the room appeared clean (clean and sanitary are two different things). I would recommend this to another person with the warning that they cannot control their own temperatures, that the bed was hard and uncomfortable and that the street noise was loud. As far as hearing our neighbors- if we had inconsiderate people next to us it would have been a problem. But thankfully, we had quiet neighbors so we didn't have a problem. I might consider this place again, but will probably continue to look for other alternatives in the meantime. read more

We stayed there because of the excellent reviews and the reasonable rates, and what we received was even beyond our expectation. This is a really nice hotel and obviously the hosts are practicing a different kind of business. It is not that the rooms are luxury and fancy, but the hosts make the best out of them with thoughtful designs and serving the customers with good cares. The room we stayed in was cozy, clean, home-like and enjoyable. The hostess was very so friendly and helpful that her suggestions on the touring plan turned into our wonderful trip near Niagara Falls. The Rex motel may look like an ordinary hotel from the outside. But let me tell you that once you meet the owners, and are welcomed in to your room, you immediately feel like you are a guest in your friends home. The couple that owns this motel is incredibly hospitable. Together they made this ordinary motel building into an exciting oasis, literally down the block from GREAT eating & of course the falls. These people ripped us off! My airline changed my days of travel and I was forced to cancel my trip. Not the Rex hotel. My Orbitz agent said even though I had a legitimate reason and cancelled 3 months in advance the owner Amelia refused to refund me.I guess this family owned business is so desperate for money they do not care about doing what is right. I have never in all my years of travel had a hotel refuse refund. Be prepared to loose your money if you book with Rex ! read more

Very pleased with this motel. Clean and neat met my expectations. Microwave and refrigerator, small coffee maker in room. Free parking near room. Grocery store, gas station nearby. A few minutes drive to local sites. "Emilia" treated us like good friends and gave us suggestions and directions to local sights. Will definitely stay there again . Affordable !! read more
