Nothing worse than being on vacation and needing dental repair. Shame on me, I decided to pull on something with my teeth and consequently damaged one of the veeners on my front teeth. Worse enough, it happened late at night. I scrambled before bed trying to find a place in the area that would be able to fix my tooth early in the day so I could maximize my short vacation time in the area. DC Dental Spa was second on my list due to the distance from my hotel, but it was the best choice ultimately. I called in at 7am and explained my situation. Their receptionist was super sweet and checked immedialy with Dr. Hoang as to whether it he could take me as a walk-in. He agreed! The receptionist advised me to come in as soon as possible then gave me a run-down of their procedures. I agreed and was off to visit. Their check-in is very convenient. In fact, I completed the electronic paperwork in the cab on my way there. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the same receptionist. She checked me in and asked me to have a seat. From the exterior to interior premises, everything was very clean and modern. The waiting area was especially calming. There is a waterfall accent piece that really sets the tone for a dental spa. If anything, it felt more along the lines of a therapeutic spa/office than a dentist. Within a few minutes, I was welcomed into the examination room. A dental tech greeted me kindly and asked a few questions, then prepared me for Dr. Hoang. We chatted a bit and I enjoyed her interaction. Dr. Hoang came shortly after and examined me then recemented my veneer. He went the extra mile in filing it down a bit as one tooth was longer than the other. This is something I had been aware of but never had a dentist actually try to correct it. Moreover, prior to beginning, they offered me glasses to protect my eyes from the light. I really appreciated this as my eyes are sensitive to extreme light. Although this was a walk-in, Dr. Hoang treated me as if I was a newly established patient and provided recommendations thoughtfully. I especially appreciated his kind demeanor. To top it off, he gave me some recommendations for Vietnamese food in the area. Altogether, my visit was about 30 minutes. Prior to leaving, I was able to pay using my method of choice. The receptionist emailed me a receipt and thanked me accordingly. In fact, all of the staff kindly wished me well with a smile. Overall, I had a great experience. My smile was back to normal and in time for the rest of my trip. If I ever had a similar need, I would definitiely stop by again. I don't recommend DC Dental Spa ever again. Bad costumer service. The "manager" is nice only when she has to collect the money otherwise she doesn't listen to you at all. I had an appointment in June they told me that I need a crown and a filling, so I asked how much it would be the total amount. They showed me the "estimate "where I signed and paid that day, it was $2160. After a month they contacted me again saying that I have a balance due of 400 plus dollars. Find out that in the estimate they gave me they included half of the services or, it's a game they play with their costumer since I've read a lot of people complaining about the same thing. So, Oral Evaluation, Radiographic image and Filling composite was not included, I mean really? What's total estimate means for dc dental spa? Why do you give me an estimate that includes half of the service when you already know I need an oral evaluation or filling composite( YOU told me that I need a f** filling!!) Oh! I didn't finish yet! The crown that Dr. Rex did it's gone! I had to replace it with a new one! Cause The edge of the crown was not done well and the food was getting in between the crown and my gum and it was still giving me Same pain. I ended up paying $2700+ for a crown and a filling. I am so mad cause when I pay a lot of money I assume they are giving me their best job and best Costumer service, well their best is not worth the money I spent! We.. Before a service, I asked the employees to call my insurance and make sure it was covered by my insurance as I was leaving my job and could not afford the procedure out of pocket. They told me it was, so I went ahead with the procedure. When checking out, they said I had to pay out of pocket and insurance would reimburse. Turns out it was not covered by my insurance and I was lied to by the employees. Would definitely not go back!!!!! SUCH A BREACH OF TRUST! read more

I had an unfortunately disappointing experience at DC Dental Spa with Dr Hoang. It started very positive, with great professionalism from the staff. The premises were clean and comfortable. Dr Hoang came in and was courteous, knowledgeable and thoughtful. I informed the staff and Dr Hoang that I was on a time limit and I had a meeting to go back to. Dr Hoang said the procedure would take 15min, so I signed and decided to go through with it. Then Dr Hoang disappeared and went to another patient, and left me with no information or warning in the dental chair for 20min. I asked the assistant to ask for him, she said he's attending to someone else. I'm a busy senior executive and my time is as valuable as Dr Hoang's, so I was disappointed that he disregarded my appointment and took another client. When I told him I was leaving, he said he "had an emergency", while I could hear his entire conversation with the other client in the room next door, and his jokes and friendly chats. This is not how I expected the treatment would be at DC Dental Spa, given the ratings. read more

During those 30 years I have never, ever had an issue, complaint or concern about anything. His office is one of the most friendly and professional offices I have ever, ever seen. The staff is always very, very friendly, professional,helpful and knowledgeable. What a treat and for that I am most grateful. If I could give this place 10 stars, I totally would! I absolutely love this office, and have been for several visits - always walking away with a great smile and in an amazing mood. I'm sure everyone complains about how much they dread going to the dentist, but I'm so happy that DC Dental Spa truly tries to make it the best experience they possibly can. The office is super clean, super decorative, and smells wonderful (especially for a dental office). The staff, every single person in the office is so incredibly friendly and chipper. Together, they create a very welcoming atmosphere and from the moment you walk into the office, you're already comfortable and at ease. I've never had a long wait time, maybe 5-10 minutes at most so I know they try very hard to stick to appointment times and the ongoing schedule. I love that they are very clear and concise when making recommendations, suggestions and any explanations regarding care and x-rays. Everything is detailed so that it creates a good understanding on the patient's side for why they do the things they do, and what's important when it comes to dental health. I firmly trust their opinions and medical care. They get me in and out which I appreciate since I typically try to get my appointments in before work, but I also never feel rushed. It's a fantastic balance! Bebe and Dr. Hoang are so sweet, and have terrific interpersonal skills, and impeccable bedside manner. I love that they ask me how things are going and really try to engage in conversation. Puts me at ease especially when I go to lay back and they start working on my teeth! The sunglasses is such a small gesture but very appreciated, just to help you be more comfortable from the shining light! I've been a patient here for a decade or so and they have greatly improved in customer service (especially getting in for appointments on time). They are clear on price up front, and have a preventative care plan that offers 2 cleanings, bitewing x-rays, and other benefits for $325/yr (see attached photo, price was from 2018). If you don't have dental coverage, this is a good deal and keeps you on a regular cleaning schedule. I found this per GroupOn for One Oral Exam, X-Rays, and Cleaning for $61.50 however valued at $317. I was pleasantly surprised and happy about the services that I received as well as the customer service that I experienced. I arrived and parked on the street which was 2 hours for free (luck!). I then went to suite 9 where I was greeted by the front desk. Hours before my appointment, I completed paperwork online so there was not much to do but revalidate and sign authorization for treatment. Ms. Bebe was my Dental Hygienist and she was uber educational, pleasant and had great interpersonal skills. She even made the recommendation of dental products (ACT Rise/mouthwash). Dr. Rex followed up and shared his subject matter expert opinion of my dental chart which was understandable and clear enough for me to follow. Great experience here. Doctor had a good bedside (chairside?) manner and resolved my issue quickly. The helpful receptionist staff booked my appointment the very same day that I called, which was super convenient. The only caveat is the pricing, which was pretty expensive. I was administered an antibiotic for something like $90. Granted, I had insurance so this wasn't a huge issue, but if you aren't insured this place (like most dental places) can put a dent in your wallet. I've been going to DC Dental Spa since 2008 and as long as they keep up the good work, I'll continue to come here for my dental needs. Dr. Hoang is awesome; down to earth dentist with great bedside manner (he somehow still remembers that I'm from NY after all these years!). He's the only dentist that has filled my cavity without Novocain--the pain wasn't too intense (I really don't like having a numb lip). Also, Dr. Borders and Dr. Mena have been great. The front desk staff is good as well. There was someone, I think her name is Pam (I think she worked in their billing department)--I didn't care for her but I don't think she works there anymore. I called DC Dental Spa on September 3rd & explained my situation. I told the very nice young woman over the phone the situation about my tooth, how the resin had come off which was covering a cavity & who my dental insurance was with. When I got there, they took a picture of me (WTF?!) like I was a criminal, claiming it was a part of their new patient format. (Note: I can only deduce that because the office sits in the heart of GW's campus that alot of students have come through there, got services & skipped out on the bill.) The dentist took pics/xrays of my entire mouth then directed me to the receptionist for quote of services which turned out to be $2100!! Either way, I've NEVER heard of a dental office taking a picture of a person to go along with their personal profile. Kind of reminds you of how you go into a store & it has pictures of people who have stolen from said store in the past. So they post a picture so that the person can't come back to the store. That alone was off-putting. I paid the $20 copay & left. Well today, 10/2/19, I get an email from DC Dental Spa saying that I owe them $107.00 for the xrays taken. Lord, these people must be hard up for cash. I called MY dental insurance to make sure this wasnt some kind of joke. Why not have me make payment of the copay & xray all at once in September when I was physically in the office? Again stated, will not EVER use or recommend this place again. So glad I found a great dentist within my network who did everything DC Dental Spa quoted me, but they did it for $300! read more

RED FLAGS EVERYWHERE. I saw him with the option of replacing or repairing a damaged veneer. I chose to repair and his repair broke after 2 days. So I asked about a replacement, but told him I would only take it if he could bill it against my insurance, which would be effective in 2 days. Instead of telling me to come back in two days, he said they could bill me at the end of my multi-part procedure, so it would be covered under my dental insurance. He then sent in an assistant for a signature. When I asked the assistant about payment, she said the full cost of $2,000 would be due today. After raising the price of replacement by $500, he then refused to refund the cost of the repair that was obviously defective workmanship. He said that he does not guarantee his workmanship. This Dentist does not warranty his own work even when clearly defective, which means he doesn't trust himself to perform quality work. The Dentists price gouges established patients, which means he doesn't care about his patients. The dentists will tell you what you need to hear to get you to commit, and will walk back his own promises. The dentist is friendly and a smooth talker, but you can't trust his word and you can't trust his work. If you're sitting in the lobby reading this, do yourself a favor and walk out. read more

My wife originally told me about this place and my first thought was NO, NO, NO. Downtown DC; Where would I park? I'm sure they are only open during the day. I have to take off of work don't I? Boy was I WRONG, WRONG WRONG! They have FREE PARKING! (Say what? Did he say that right?) Yes, FREE PARKING! They are opened EVENINGS and WEEKENDS? GET OUTTA HERE! Came in expecting a super long wait and I was checked in and seen within 10 minutes. I could not believe it. Sat down and the staff were incredible. Treated me like a human being instead of a dollar sign. Offered to play music I like to help make my visit go smoothly. The lovely young assistant took my X'rays and they went through smoothly. The dentist came in and took the time out to show me my X'rays (unlike other places) and pointed out any problems. It was nice being able to see what goes on in my mouth, hear that the actual things he was suggesting I have done, and how they would actually benefit me. The cleaning went well. Whenever I had even the slightest pain and said something the dentist immediately stopped and apologized. At the end, the dentist gave me brochures about product's that I could use in the future and thanked me for coming. This is what I call 5 Star status. I had a terrible experience at another dentist's office (I'll be updating my previous Yelp review on them shortly) last week and called on 7/10/17 to make an appointment for a "second opinion" about whether my x-rays revealed cavities or not. A short background on why I needed the second opinion.....I had x-rays, exam, and cleaning done on 7/5/17 by an office I was semi-familiar with but a new-to-me dentist. The dentist told me I had no cavities and I went on my merry way. Flash-forward to 7/7, I get a phone call from that office confirming an appointment I supposedly had made to have 2 fillings done the following week. I told them the dentist said I had no cavities and I made no such appointment, but they argued my chart said otherwise and they would have never made an appointment that I did not consent to myself. So after spending $213 (I do not have dental insurance), I was very confused/angry/irritated that the front desk was insisting I had cavities and I wanted to make an appointment with a new dentist for new x-rays. I was able to see Dr. Hoang the following day after I called DC Dental Spa. The front desk staff was friendly and very professional. While it did take me longer than I would have liked waiting to be seen, the x-ray tech was very professional and Dr. Hoang came in shortly after to review the x-rays. He confirmed what I suspected, that I do in fact have no cavities. He took the time to go over each x-ray with me and explain what I was looking at. He took the time to do an exam as well. He also only charged me for the x-rays (not the exam) which came to $87. I told him because of the professionalism and competence exhibited by everyone I interacted with, the next time I need a cleaning (January 2018) I will be visiting DC Dental Spa and not my previous office, Cosmo Smiles.I'd happily recommend anyone looking for a new dental office to check out DC Dental Spa-they have $99 new patient specials which is nearly unheard of in this area. It's a great location just a few minutes walk from Foggy Bottom/GWU metro! I'll definitely be bringing my business here in the future. read more

I needed to access the DC Dental spa urgently while out of town on business. This can be nerve-wracking to have to visit someone you don't know. They were able to give me a same day appointment to address my emergency treatment. I was so impressed. Very clean office with state of the art equipment. But more than that the Dentist had such a great demeanor. He was very careful to explain bad news and then found a way to resolve the issue without pain and with such respect for my wishes and needs. Great dentist...but wonder about the case load and business practices. I went to Dr. Rex after experiencing some pain that originally was thought to be a root canal. During my first visit he abruptly conducted a pulp viability test without warning, shocking my tooth with a cold spray to confirm the nerve was still viable. Although I was excited about the viability of my nerve/lack of need for a root canal, Dr. Rex was rushing. I can imagine that he gets a ton of patients because he knows his stuff, which I appreciate, but he has too many patients. I also was a little disappointed that it took two visits (because I was naive and oblivious) for me to figure out they weren't in network for my insurance. His front desk staff casually mentioned my cavities would cost north of $3000 without batting an eye, failing to mention it's because DC Dental Spa wasn't in network. I'm not even sure that they take insurance. Now I am submitting my second "refund" authorization because I overpaid for services rendered. I'm not sure how to feel about it but I definitely feel like it's a little bit shady. So my ultimate recommendation is: I trust the dentist, he knows what he's doing, but I question his business practices. read more

I have been going to D.C. dental spa for 7 years, I had to cancel my last cleaning due to work conflicts. I saw a Groupon for a cleaning there and read the fine print that it was for new clients, or clients who had not been seen in the last 12 months which I qualified for. When I confirmed my appointment they denied my ability to use the Groupon because I was an existing client. I read the fine print to them numerous times and they still denied it. A day or so later they called and said hey would "honor" it. Apparently honor means they would give me a sub standard cleaning and then try to upcharge on everything. Apparently fluoride, removing plaque, and a thorough polishing are not part of a cleaning. They took pictures and x-rays, did no plaque removal what so ever, the polish was maybe 90 seconds, and then they charged an extra 35 for standard fluoride treatment. To top it off they recommended that I get 7500 worth of dental work much of which seemed cosmetic, but offered me 10% off if I booked it all now. They also recommended I add a 350 teeth bleaching to make sure all the work recommended will all be the same shade of white. So after 7 years I will not be returning. I did enjoy the dentist I originally had there a while ago, but she left and since then the service has been pretty horrible since. Anyone know a good dentist in D.C.? read more

I was trying to get a routine cleaning done at DC Dental Spa, and they gave me a quote of over $250. When I brought it to their attention that my CIGNA dental insurance covers 100% in-network and 100% for out- of network, they told me the CIGNA rates are over $350 and I have to make a payment of $250. I asked them what is the use of having dental insurance if I have to pay even when it is covered 100% for basic cleaning, so they just said that's how dental insurance works and all patients complain about dental insurance. I was then offered a special offer where I pay $150 in advance for the cleaning, which I didn't accept. Few days later, I visited another practice in the area and they charged me as per CIGNA rates and I was covered 100% for the same procedure without having to pay out of my pocket. They deserve zero stars, as they are not honest about informing patients that they are not in CIGNA network. read more

I've been a client of the DC Dental Spa for a couple of years now, and I can only speak highly of their services. It's located downtown, conveniently close to the Foggy Bottom metro. The staff are all quite friendly and considerate, and the doctors are honest and upfront with their recommendations on work to be done. At this point, I've had fillings, crowns, and even a root canal through them, and they're all holding up well. They stand by their work and are pretty flexible when it comes to fine-tuning crowns and such. I cannot speak to other, more serious services like implants, but based on my experience, I would say that they can be trusted to do a good job for any service. For uninsured folks like me, they offer a "preventative care plan" that can be a money saver if you're the type that was not blessed with ironclad teeth, and you can occasionally find a good deal on a cleaning with them through Groupon if you're a first-time customer. I remember the trepidation which I approached finding a new dentist with on moving to this area, as well as visiting a few offices that immediately gave me a bad feeling. I did not have this with DC Dental Spa, and am happy to have found a dental care provider in DC that I can confidently recommend. read more

I recently underwent two Root Canal Treatments at DC Dental Spa and felt misled and cheated by this office. 1) I have CIGNA dental insurance, and when I first called DC Dental Spa the front office told me they are in the CIGNA network and they accept CIGNA PPO dental insurance, I was under the impression that we were being charged as per CIGNA network rates. I was given an estimate of $2950 for performing the two RCT's, and when I enquired with the front desk staff, they confirmed that would be the total expense to perform the required procedure, and it included both the crowns. After completing the RCT treatment, to my surprise and shock, I was given an additional quote of $4,764.00 to fix the two crowns, which totally shocked me. If was informed upfront that this would set us back by $8000 I would have gone to a different practice, as in the CIGNA network the cost for both the RCT's & crown would cost below $2400. 2) I paid for all our treatments upfront by credit card, and we were shocked yet again to find a statement of $125 from CIGNA towards consultation. So basically, the office took the amount from us as well as CIGNA. Clearly, the intent of the office has been to cheat its patients. When I showed the original CIGNA statement to the front office and requested a refund of the amount, they said we had to wait until the check is cleared, which is ridiculous, as they are guaranteed payment from CIGNA. 3) I had also paid another $89 towards dental scaling only to be told that I will need deep cleaning which required an additional payment of $1000. Pretty unimpressed with this dentist. I got a Groupon for a cleaning and everything seemed fine so I figured I would continue getting cleanings at DC Dental Spa. But when I went back for a subsequent cleaning, I ended up being put in the chair, but just waiting to be seen until after about an hour after I was scheduled (and the dentist would pop out during my visit and talk to other patients). Given how expensive a cleaning is, I expected better service (and not needing to leave over an hour and a half of my work day available for just a regular cleaning). read more

Excellent Service. A bit pricey if you don't have insurance but they do kindly give a 10% discount to GWU students. I had a problem with my first filling and they repaired and replaced it at no cost, couldn't ask for better customer service and friendly hygienist and dentist. read more

I wish there were more stars to provide for this experience. I have plenty of dental horror stories from my Time in DC, which continued until the top of this year after a terrible experience with another dentist. After seeing an ad in the metro near work for a special here, I schedule an appointment right away. I wasn't surprised to learn that I needed a lot more work done than just a cleaning. DC Dental Spa is not in my network so the bill was astronomical. However, the folks walked me through the process of figuring out a way to pay it and even dealt with me asking 101 questions without being annoyed. Everyone there is super friendly, from the ladies at the front to everyone who has worked on my teeth. They greet you by name and are extremely prompt and understanding when DC traffic has you running behind. The care that is taken during your procedure is a breath of fresh air. They walk you through everything and make sure that you're comfortable and know exactly what is happening at every moment. As an added bonus, they follow up with you the next day to see how you're doing which is a major plus. I'm finally done getting allll my work done and I'm happy they gave me my confidence and comfort back. **5 STARS ALL THE WAY** First off, I have to say I actually HATE the dentist. I'm deathly afraid when it's time to even get my teeth clean. I've been going to DC Dental Spa for over 2 years now and I am beyond thrilled with them. Here's a few reasons why these guys are the BEST: *My teeth have seriously improved since coming to Dr. Hoang. I'd been suffering from horrible jaw pain and pounding headaches. Previous dentist didn't really give me the time of day, one dentist said it had nothing to do with my teeth. But Dr. Hoang listened to me. He asked the right questions, he took a closer look at my history and we finally figured out I needed a mouth guard at night. Who knew a little thing like a mouth guard could be life changing. Oh, and his recommendation for a waterpik was also life changing. He even said to buy it on Amazon to get a good deal! *The staff are incredibly professional and kind. This isn't your normal doctors office. I never feel rushed and they have great hours. The front desk also is very upfront about costs which is nice especially if you have to get a filling. *The office is perfectly located 2 minutes away from the metro - super convenient! read more
