So I've been on a doughnut hunt lately and Revolution Doughnuts is #1 in my book. Even through the pandemic, they do everything that they can to maintain the health and safety of their customers. While the line may seem long, it actually goes by fairly quickly. They only let one person in at a time to order and require masks. They provide hand sanitizer and also have marks along the outside of the building so you can social distance while you wait in line! Now, to the doughnuts. Revolution doughnuts has THE BEST doughnuts in the Atlanta area. Not only are all of their doughnuts vegan, but they also have some gluten-free options (Gluten-free doughnuts?! That's a first for me). My personal favorites are the vanilla bean and raspberry sprinkles. The vanilla bean is like a Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut, but chewier! I absolutely love the texture of their doughnuts. The chewiness of their doughnuts really distinguishes it from other shops. The raspberry doughnut was delightful! It tasted sweet but also a tad bit sour from the natural flavor of raspberry. It tastes like they used actual raspberries in the icing! The quality is outstanding here. The double chocolate cake doughnut (I forgot what their name for it was) was also great. It was cakey but also not overly sweet. It was like a salted caramel flavor but in chocolate form. Delicious! Beware though, the double chocolate cake doughnut is their messiest doughnut. The service here is fantastic. They're quick, polite, and very friendly. I've yet to try the coffee here but I've heard it's great too. Maybe I'll try it next time-- if I don't get too distracted by the doughnuts and forget! Lastly, the prices of the doughnut vary, but I would say they're about $2-$3 each. It's a bit pricy, but this is a local specialty doughnut shop. You pay for quality ingredients and doughnuts that do cost more than the average to produce. Overall, it's a 5/5 for me! Revolution Doughnuts, home to the famous doughnuts that have been featured on the Food Network. You can rarely mess up a doughnut in my book, so I was excited to see what they were all about. Parking wasn't very plentiful but there were plenty of spots when we got there around 2:30pm on a Sunday. The interior is very rustic and hipster and not uncomfortable. Seating was limited, but I felt like half the people coming in were buying doughnuts to go. There was no line when we first got there but I turned but head and all of a sudden the line was out the door. We ended up trying: Peach Slider Apple Cinnamon Fritter Toasted Almond Orange Pistachio Caramel Bacon We got there later in the afternoon, so the doughnuts were "buy two for one," as they were closing up shop at 4 and they still had quite a few doughnuts to sell. I also ordered a Rose Cardamom Chai, which as pretty freaking amazing. We passed it around the table and took turns sipping it. It felt like a sip of exotic heaven. Even with skim milk, it felt super rich. My favorite doughnuts have got to be the peach slider and the toasted almond. The peach slider had super ripe and sweet peaches inside a soft doughnut. The toasted almond had crunchy toasted almonds atop a sweet almond cake doughnut. Perfection. The other doughnuts were unique, but weren't my favorite. My friend loved the orange pistachio, although I wasn't a huge fan of the yeast doughnut. They were all really good, but quoting my friend, "they weren't revolutionary." One doughnut is two doughnuts tall! I've been here a few times now, so I feel I can do a proper review. This place is consistent! They make only 2 kinds of doughnut "bases" -- yeast and cake. So they are able to do them really well. The variety of doughnuts comes from toppings and fillings. These doughnuts are not cheap, but they are generous and filling. I especially love anything made from the yeasty doughnut base. Others have raved about the berry one, but it was too sweet for my taste. The salted caramel was excellent. I was hooked after I first tried the Blueberry Yeast doughnut. I could tell that the frosting was made from fresh fruit and it was amazing. Came by for breakfast since I kept hearing rave reviews about this place. Before I go on, let me caveat this review by saying that I am by no means a doughnut connoisseur. I've been to a number of "great" donut shops and often times a doughnut tastes just like a doughnut. I tried the crunchy mister and the orange pistachio. The crunchy mister (&3.50) is a savory donut with cheese and ham but it has a sweetness to it. I really liked the slightly sweet and savory combination. The orange pistachio donut was a yeast donut. I have no idea what that means but it was a lot more dense and breadlike. I thought the orange glaze was too sweet. Located in a small strip mall with some parking just outside. Went on a weekday and there was a minimal wait and we got our order almost immediately after we ordered. I definitely recommend the crunchy mister. Krispy who? I visited Revolution today (first time) and I'm glad I was finally able to try the infamous salted caramel, it was GREAT! I also had the vanilla bean (vegan) which was good. I had just stopped by Java Vino for an iced soy latte so I didn't get a chance to try their lattes. Maybe next time. The staff was courteous and helpful and I look forward to my next visit. Went here with the bf nearing the close of business, and the gentleman who took my order threw in two extra doughnuts. Aw. That was nice of him. So needless to say, the staff was friendly and great. The dough they use is quite different from regular ones. I suppose it's the gluten free kind so it isn't heavy in your stomach as you consume it. The glazing atop the doughnut wasn't super sweet either. It was just the perfect amount of sweetness. The inside of the shop seemed pretty spacious with lots of seating too, but then again we strolled in near closing time. Parking is limited and difficult to get out as passing cars get peeved real easily as you try to back out and hinder traffic on both sides. I actually went to a couple of doughnut places this year in different cities and still this was the best. Justin and I tried a couple of different doughnuts here because we did the "buy 6, and get 50% off' deal which I would highly recommend, even if you have to eat doughnuts for daysss. We chose: pistachio & orange, true blueberry, triple chocolate, raspberry sprinkle, and also the cider bites and apple fritter. My favorite was the triple chocolate, because along with the chocolate doughnut, it also had a salty chocolate flavor on top. But literally all of them were amazing and I did struggle to choose a favorite. Raspberry has been my 'summer flavor' instead of watermelon. They were out of the salted caramel, but we probably would have tried that. Next time we'll check that one out. We also had the rose cardamom chai iced and it was so great! Justin is a huge "chai tea" fan, so him liking it also says a lot. I want to try the chai hot next time with doughnuts, especially if it is a chilly fall day. Customer service was EXCELLENT! Vegan donuts?? I'm in! Of course donuts don't have meat! How silly! It is easy to say vegan instead of saying dairy free for sure. I've been dreaming about my vegan donut for weeks. No kidding. It is just the hours that got me. Plus the fact that it is not close to me. Leaving work early one day made me finally come check it out. Also great that I was the only customer there. I was worried about parking cause of what I read...and the long lines. I came at a good time. The only thing that suck is whatever is sold out that day, that's it. Donuts are made fresh daily. It's better to eat fresh. Even keeping it in the box for a few hours doesn't taste as good. I learned this when I took a bite of each one of the donuts I got haha. Service was super friendly!! Maybe cause I was the only customer there? He explained to me everything from the ingredients, to second location, to giving me tips how far Downtown Decatur is and when to come in for the freshest and even telling me about flavors that are seasonal and the next flavor so watch out for them! I'm excited! I got six donuts and got $1 off. I didn't even expect this. For donuts, I got Chocolate Hazelnut, Chocolate Cake, Orange Pistachio, Coconut Cake, Almond Cake, Vanilla Bean. In addition, I got a small peachy iced tea. The only true gluten free donut is actually the Dough-Nut. It's made with almond flour but it does have egg. I don't necessary consider this vegan friendly but more vegetarian. Most of the donuts I got where yeast based since I read that yeast is gluten free. However, I believe it's a mix of yeast plus non gluten flour since I was told Dough-Nut is gluten free. Coconut donut is cake base. I got it knowing it would not be gluten free cause I love coconut that much. Maybe I was really craving some vegan donuts. It just sounded healthier. I ate half of each donut and the other half was eaten by my daughter. So far, I'm okay and didn't have any headaches. I concluded I had great quality desserts, made from love. My fave is actually the coconut followed closely bu the Dough-Nut. The Orange Pistachio was really greasy. I am glad I finally came and tried them out. I didn't feel bloated or sick so I'm happy. Since none of the donuts are truly dairy free and gluten free, I don't think i will come back. I did like the peach tea, it was unsweetened and complimented well with the sweetness of the donuts. Overall, donuts were good but didn't wow me. The texture of the yeast donuts, I didn't love. 3.5 out of 5 From my experience, I will just have to make my own dairy free, gluten free donut. Revolution has won the heart of many Atlantians. So of course, I'd have to check it out. A bunch of us bought a whole box to try. I've had my heart set on trying the cro-dough so I was ecstatic when I opened the box to find two of them! I've been on a mashup dessert search, and so this has been on my list for quite a while. I also tried the toasted almond and coconut, which are more like baked cakes. I also tried the orange pistachio, which was my friend's favorite. Overall, I did enjoy the doughnut. I must admit, I really liked the baked cake doughnuts the most, which was very unexpected. By far, my favorite was the toasted almond. It was delicious. Now, the most anticipated doughnut for me was the crodough. I must say, it was just okay. It wasn't as soft and flaky as I hoped. The croissant part of the doughnut wasn't as prominent. It was more chewy. Overall, their doughnuts are great, and I think I had too high of expectations for the crodough. Awesome doughnut place! Got there in the afternoon, so flavors were limted, but it was just enough that I'm hooked. We had the raspberry sprinkles, vanilla bean, and the true blueberry. Raspberry sprinkles was my favorite out of the 3 and had that familiarity of the Simpson's doughnut hehe. Gluten free, free of transfat, and organic flour, sign me up! I've been to Revolution multiple times so I thought I would finally write a review! The shop can get pretty busy on the weekends with long lines and hard-to-find parking. During the weekdays, parking is more manageable and the lines are shorter! Also, on some weekday afternoons they offer half off of 6 donuts or more. That price was hard-to-beat so I bought the following donuts: Orange Pistachio (V)- I've has this donut a few times and I think it is better in the morning as it tastes more fresh. In the afternoon, the donut tasted a bit stale. Would not recommend getting this in the afternoon. Vanilla Bean (V)- This donut is amazing and is my favorite from Revolution. This donut was able to maintain freshness throughout the day and was not dry or stale by the afternoon. I also love this donut because it's light and I don't feel guilty after eating the whole thing. Lemon Poppyseed (V)- This flavor is good but not as good as the Vanilla bean! Pumpkin Spice (V)- I know y'all will think I'm super basic for saying this but this donut is amazing. It's a bit smaller than the other ones but very filling. The flavor is delicious and it is totally worth getting! Maple Bourbon Buttermilk Bar- I would probably skip this one next time. I was not a fan of the cake donut or the the icing. Apple Cinnamon Fritter (V)- This donut was stale by the end of the day. I feel silly for not trying out Revolution Doughnuts sooner than I did. It took me 2 years to finally try it, and now I've been 3 times in a month! This is a heaven-sent place for vegans with a sweet tooth. While their menu isn't fully vegan, a LARGE portion of their menu is. The first time I went, 12 out of 13 of the flavors were vegan. You get a discount per donut if you order a dozen - it's more cost effective if you're eating with a group. The staff was very accommodating and considerate to separate the non-vegan flavor from the vegan flavors in a separate container when I ordered a dozen. I haven't had a donut here I didn't like (and I've had almost all, ha). They're classically sweet and have a great, soft texture. They're even fresh a second day if you can't finish them the first day. My personal favorites are cinnamon apple fritter, raspberry sprinkle, and coconut baked cake. Orange pistachio is also a must-try. The flavor is surprisingly mind-blowing. Their coffee is also fantastic - perfectly pairs with the donuts! The store itself is very cute. So my boyfriend and I used to go here every weekend on Saturdays to pick up donuts before we study. We love all of them, even the cake ones, and we're not cake donut fans. The cream filled ones are good especially Revolution cream or Nutella cream. He likes the true blueberry or cappuccino crunch. Coconut cake is good too. Their coffee is good. Hot or cold. They offer non-dairy milk and stevia too if that's your thing. This place is filled with families and kids on the weekends, so just grin and bear it. It's a donut place so it's expected to be more family friendly. Also who cares if this place has WiFi or not? I'm not here to study, just to have a good donut or two with coffee. I came here with my GF, two friends, and two dogs during the after-church rush on a Sunday morning. (One friend and the two dogs hung out outside while we went in and surveyed the donut landscape). The line was well out the door and moved slowishly but hey, it's donuts, man. Of course there's a line. We sat on a nearby lawn to enjoy our treats. I loved the donuts I got (2 vegan cake donuts, one with a pistachio topping and another with a berry frosting). The pistachio topping often crumbled and fell off the donut and onto the grass...I ate it anyway, boorish caveman that I am. We clearly didn't get there early enough because they were sold out of about half of the things on the day's donut list. So...get here early if you're getting here at all.
