If this hadn't been recommended to me by someone I trusted, I would have thought this was a *wink…read morewink nudge nudge* "massage parlor". The outside (and inside) is old and run down, and let's face it, it is named Shangri-La. However, my bestie and I decided to give it a go, and it ended up being awesome. The front counter person was amazing, and explained everything in detail. Separate women and men sides, separate locker rooms, separate hot tubs and saunas. Then a communal room with small restaurant, small pool, salt spa and clay spa. You can use everything for $33, or you can pay extra for the whole body wash, facial, hair wash experience, which is what my friend and I did. The system is as follows: pay upfront at the counter, and women are handed a pink outfit to change into, and a key to your locker. My friend and I dropped off our stuff, then went and soaked in the hot tub for about 20 minutes. Then we were called for our scrub. This is the part that was unlike anything I've ever done. You are doused in warm water, then every body part is scrubbed hard with a loofah and scrub salt until there is not an iota of extra skin anywhere on your body. Then oil is put everywhere, all the while laying there with a fresh cucumber mask. It was definitely a "hurt so good" experience, and even days later my skin is the smoothest it has ever been. After that we dressed in our pink outfits, and went to the communal area to sit in the salt spa for a while and to grab something light to eat. This is the only area you can have your electronics with you. There was only one man doing everything in the restaurant (cooking, order taking, etc.), so our Korean pancake took about half an hour to make, and many others waited quite a long time to even place their food order You definitely don't come here for the ambiance, but my friend and I can't wait to come back, as this really was such an wonderful way to pamper ourselves.

The key point to remember if you pay hamburger price, you won't get steak. With that in mind, here are the negatives and positive. Negatives (every place has it) : It's older & dated. There are some odd things like jewelry they are selling. There are random rooms scattered as private office making it a bit confusing. Next to the cold indoor pool, there are also odd items. Positive side : You can't beat the day pass of $35 for saunas, cold pool, hot tub, steam room and showers. They have sofa, tables and chairs to relax in every corner They actually serve pretty delicious Korean food for a reasonable price. Portion is generous. They give you gown, towels and other items you need to shower and freshen up to step out. All you need is your swimsuit and personal items. Place is clean and quiet. Not a lot of people. The staff are seen but they won't approach you unless you go up to them to request things. So you get your peace & tranquility. Separate shoe locker and interior locker. Yes. The place is not fancy but just remember to get "fancy" it's usually in the 3 digits. You really can't expect to pay hamburger price and get steak. Until they have similar competitor who charges the same but gives you much more, I still feel it's worth it.

The service was so friendly & she went through the process of what to expect / what to do / and any questions I might have had. You basically sit in the movable 'pod' type deal and just sweat for 30 minutes. There is light therapy involved, with the different lights having different benefits (photo attached). You're in your own room, so most people get fully undressed then slip into the pod - listen to music, podcast, meditate... that time is YOURS! A nice little perk was that your head sticks out, so the heating part isn't as bad as one might think. Bonus - first sweat is $20 and they offer various memberships depending on your preference! If I didn't just move across the bridge, I would definitely be back!

Listen, Florida Float Spa is rad. I took advantage of their first time float special and made an…read moreonline appointment. I showed up early and chatted a little with the man behind the desk about what to expect. He led me to the float room, instructed me on how to use the equipment, and left me to... well... float. I stripped down and hopped into the float pod and the lights dimmed until they were off. The inside of the float pod has a soft light that lets you see just enough to get yourself situated. When I laid down, the experience was like floating on the most gentle, warmest lake you've ever been on. My ears went under the water, but my face stayed above the water. I could only hear my heart beating, but eventually, that faded away until I was just silent. It took me about 5 minutes before I was brave enough to turn off the pod light. When I did, the darkness freaked me out a little. I turned the light back on, gave it a few more minutes, and tried again. My brain really struggled with having zero senses engaged. It caused me to hear things that weren't there, and to "touch" things that weren't there. Not bad things mind you, just the sensation of touching the side of the tank, or the sound of a bump. After about 20 minutes, all of that faded away and there was just nothing. I just was... The first 25 minutes felt like 25 minutes. The next 35 minutes felt like 5 minutes. All of a sudden, the water in the pod started to cycle and my 60 minutes was up. I went back a few weeks later and tried it again. The first 5 minutes felt like 5 minutes, and the next 55 minutes felt like 5 minutes. It was really weird. Both times I exited the pod feeling that euphoria that you typically feel after having a massage. Your body is rested because it's just been floating in salt water for an hour, and your mind is rested because you turned it off for an hour. It's a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it for anyone.
