I've been coming here for barbering for about 8 years now, before they moved to this location even, and they are the only venue I go to get barbering services. Great venue, awesome staff, and their service is spot on. Lucky is my usual barber and he's amazing! He executes with razor sharp precision and he's very kind and approachable. What I like the most is that he sets up off hours slots like 7am-9am, also on Saturdays and Sundays 7am-9am, and sometimes later hours in the day past 5pm, and this flexibility is highly unique. For someone that works 8am-6pm M-F and has weekends many times booked, for me being able to find a barber before work or before weekend outings is a required necessity. YAY, Nadia! She is one of my favorite people in the world, and a highly-skilled stylist. I followed her from her previous salon, and plan to follow her for as long as she lets me. WIth Nadia, I feel comfortable, valued, and well-cared for. Every time I see her, I am promptly greeted with warm smiles and several offers of tea, water, or whatever I want. If I am extra lucky, there is even a cute dog to pet. Less than 5-minutes after I arrive, she'll usually have me sitting in her stylist chair, patiently listening as I list all of the reasons my hair sucks (I am usually transitioning from one haircut to another, and I have dark red hair that has turned to dingy gray and has never accepted highlights well). Nadia responds warmly and with confidence. She is one of the few stylists that I've ever met who doesn't seem overwhelmed by my thick, frizzy, red/gray hair. Instead she seems excited about this next phase on my hair journey...even suggesting the perfect shade for my eyes and skin tone. She is sweet, considerate, and (above all) does a GREAT job. The color looks great, the frizz is tamed, and she always gives me great tips to keep my hair looking good until my next appointment. I wanted to like this place but I got a really, really bad haircut. I came in with very straight hair that was three months from a full buzz cut and that I'm planning on growing out, looking for a trim on the back and the sides. The barber only asked me two questions: medium or low fade? And have you ever had your hair thinned out? I left with very high sides and a shorter top, basically a flat top. Very unflattering for my face shape, even more than what I came in with. I couldn't see what he was doing and give feedback while it was happening because he turns you away from the mirror. My hair is straight and the crown was almost getting to the length where it wouldn't stick straight out anymore, but the barber cut it back down so it will for the next 2-3 months. Fortunately it's winter and I can wear hats until spring. I cried when I got home and saw my hair. I would not recommend this place. I can't emphasize enough how bad my haircut is and how little I can do about it, the only thing I can take away from it is to take it as a lesson in speaking up in the moment ("ummm..feels like you're cutting kinda high up?" What a great find! I recently moved to the Berkeley area and was referred to Maddix by the owner where I used to get my hair cut in Los Angeles. You can make your appointments here online. Once you come, there are a few parking stalls in front of the building that are free of charge. The shops itself has such a great vibe and a fun, vibrant feel to it. From the art on the walls, to the details on the barber chairs, I just love everything about this place. It's even dog friendly (for well-behaved dogs) and they have dog treats in the sitting area. I saw that Maddix does short hair so I booked an appointment with them. They did a great job on a standard haircut ($40.00) and did it so quickly which is amazing. I had the worst experience I ever had booking and communicating with this salon. There is no one to contact in person at the salon and the hairdresser I tried to schedule an appointment with named Heather did not put any effort into communicating with me whatsoever. I booked through vagaro since I couldn't get ahold of anyone but there must have been some sort of glitch because I received no notifications or reminders about the appointment time. As a first time client the lack of communication made things really difficult. When I did spake in person with Heather, she was so unkind and inflexible with me I was left never want to revisit the salon. She threatened to charge me as a no show based on a policy I saw written no where on their Vagaro site. I was not a not a no show and I felt there was a reasonable misunderstanding we could've negotiated another time and payment. Due to the glitch with Vagaro that I was blamed for, I have realized that I was never charged for that fee either. I meant no disrespect by my confusion with the booking system but I felt incredibly disrespected by her reaction to the situation. read more

Gave Lucky two chances to give me a fade and a cut on top (long hair). The first time, fade was tight/awesome. But he didn't do what I asked on top. Let it go. Second time, I brought a picture. Again fade was tight but he gave me a fauxhawk, not at all what I asked or showed. I realized now that he turns you around so you can't see....probably not on purpose....likely just his artistic way so the patron can be in awe upon completion. But my sense is he does what he wants and interprets what is best based on what tou tell or show him. All good. And love his creativity. But if you know what you want, it's a risk to go to him. He may get it right and it fits your taste. Didn't for me after 2x. Not a negative review at all....but just not a good fit for me. No big deal. Hair grows back. Just wanted to leave an honest review as it seems most people on yelp either leave some amazing or terrible...never anything useful. Just trying. read more

I took my sixteen year old daughter in for a hair cut yesterday with Timmony. I was so impressed with how safe we both felt in the salon. I waited in their beautiful back patio while Timmony cut her hair. They took our temperature and the salon was spotless. My daughter loved her haircut. I went to the shop twice I called and went online they just kept giving me far away dates and putting me on a waiting list. I would go to the shop and there's not even one customer there, while they are just chatting around. For a living I'm a manager so I think it's just a habit to get really pissed off when people are just standing around chatting and you have a customer waiting. Then put them on a waiting list? Well then, let me elaborate; I am a restaurant equipment consultant, and while traveling for work my wife and I end up trying new places to eat and to get our needs met all over the country, but particularly in California. One large client in the Berkeley area had contracted us to set up their kitchen. While there, my wife needed a hair "treatment". We made the appointment and got there at 1:30 as directed. It was 3:45 before my wife was seen, with no apology or explanation. She walked out of there thoroughly disappointed and distraught at the cut and color. It was beauty school 101 failure-level stuff. We met my son and his wife and our grandkids for dinner and our youngest granddaughter asked "what happened to your hair, grammy?" Fast forward 4 months, and I'm back in town for final installation. I always treat my install team to dinner and drinks when an install is done. Unbeknownst to me, the boys made an appointment here prior to dinner so they could "clean up" and look presentable before going out. They just google mapped the closest barber and this was what came up, apparently. Sure enough, all 5 guys had a terrible experience with bad (yet expensive) cuts and rude service from the owner. We aired our grievances but to no avail. The owner/operator/barber is rude and deceitful. There's not a doubt in my mind that all these positive reviews are paid. We've been ripped off several times with no attempt at redemption. Maddix is a deceitful, morally corrupt person and his work is average at best. Avoid at all costs. read more

Made an APPOINTMENT over the phone. The person who made it said the stylist would want to have a consult. I explained that I lived on the other side of the bay and had a 9-5 job. She said she would have the stylist, Mitzi, call me to consult and confirm. This was last Wednesday. I left two voicemails asking her to call me. (Shouldn't have had to do that, but anywho...). It's now Monday and Mitzi finally returns my voicemails to tell me 1) she removed the block (apparently they lied and didn't make an appointment as I was told), 2) needed a consult and 3) the block wasn't enough time to begin with. Me? Incredulous at the super unprofessional treatment. And now without a hair appointment I tried several times to confirm. This is a huge fail on all levels. I have been blessed with a very interesting and tough to work with hair texture: very fine and very frizzy/curly, so I have to be very picky with a hair stylist because my hair can be quite the challenge to work with. I am so lucky I found Heather. She has a natural talent for picking the right cut given my hair's texture and my face's shape. I can easily wear my hair straight or curly, and it would look good either way. She is also an a-freaking-mazing colorist. Just look for her on instagram! Unfortunately, my hair is too fragile to go crazy with color-wise, but I asked her to pick a color that would look good on me, and she nailed it. 4 weeks in and I'm still loving the shade she picked. I've been searching for a barbershop closer to home. I used to go to Slick & Dapper but I had a bad experience with the barber that I was working with there and needed to move on. I found some reviews and saw that Lucky used to work there but moved to Revival. I was eager to give him a shot given all the good reviews I had read about him. I made my appointment with Lucky. When I arrived, he was super friendly and very receptive to my feedback about what I was looking for in this haircut. He took the time and care to shape my hair just the way I wanted it to be. I often get barbers who ask me what I want for 1 minute and then just run off cutting, the end process often resulted in a haircut I wasn't happy with. Lucky made sure that I was happy with my haircut and then i would get the lather and straight razor treatment for a clean tape. Lucky is my go-to barber now. I followed Mitzi from her last salon to Revival and it's been such a wonderful experience every single time! I used to have very unhealthy, dry, long hair but since I let Mitzi work her magic I now have a fluffy, voluminous bob. She specializes in curly hair - as you can probably tell from her own do! The salon's overall atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. It's nice to chat with the other stylists as well as Mitzi while I go in for an occasional cut or color. I'll start by saying - I don't care for my hair properly. I'm lazy and I don't get it cut as often as I should. I absolutely love Mitzi and the haircuts she gives me. The haircuts always grow out so beautifully and I get compliments on my cuts all the time. I have unruly, thick asian hair - and she makes it look amazing.
