I am a raving fan of Revamp Training Studio and owner Lindsay Ashton. I love the atmosphere, I appreciate how Lindsay customizes each workout for me and all of her clients, and I'm impressed with the way her team of trainers motivate and lead others to high levels of fitness achievement. Revamp is not like other gyms in the area. If u are looking for an impersonal, dark, dirty gym--there are some in the area that could work for u--but Revamp is definitely not that gym. I like Revamp not only for the equipment and the knowledgable training staff, but also because of its untraditional setting. Revamp is housed at a former school and still has the charm of old style pane windows and blackboards in the workout areas. The space is clean and bright. I visited several gyms and even sampled some fitness classes in the area before selecting Revamp. With no doubt in my mind, I know I made the right decision. Lindsay customizes my workouts and can modify on the fly if needed. She uses her experience, her knowledge, and also her intuition when working with clients. Lindsay knew one of my goals was to workout outside sometimes--so she's surprised me with workouts down by Morro Rock and at a park and other outdoor settings. I am grateful I found Lindsay. Found Revamp, thankfully, through the Mind Body website. Signed up on line and walked to Revamp's facility from my motel for the Friday 5 a.m. group class. The exercises, listed on the whiteboard, were thoroughly explained to the class by the instructor, Jennifer. Fortunately, Jennifer and the other patrons (I believe, regulars) were very patient with me. The routine was challenging and I tried my best to keep up with the class. I was able to complete Jennifer's class without compromising my pride! After the 45 minute workout, Jennifer showed us some post-workout stretches with the foam roll. Ouch. In a good way. If I ever find myself back in Morro Bay, I'll take another class at Revamp. read more

I am from New York City and came to the central coast to visit my mother for 6 weeks. Revamp's outdoor circuit group training has been a game changer for me. The facility is ideally located near a large asphalt school area and each person is allotted a marked square to safely distance while exercising vigorously without a mask during this Pandemic. Cassie is an amazing instructor, knowing how to articulate precisely the proper form of each exercise in the daily workout which changes and effectively targets full body conditioning and strength training with weights. I'm here for just a few days and wanted a gym or CrossFit class to drop into. Revamp was perfect. First I emailed them to find out about their classes, and the owner, Lindsay got back to me right away with the info plus the workout so I knew what to expect. Also, she let me know how to find them. When I arrived for the class they were expecting me, and had my waiver ready to go with my name on it. Staff was friendly and inviting. The class had a nice thorough warm-up and and a great workout after that. The gym had all the equipment you need for Crossfit, and the vibe was friendly and low-key. We dropped in to Revamp's CrossFit classes while vacationing in Morro Bay. They were awesome from the start! They put particular emphasis on explaining all movements and warming up. In our party, we had 3 different levels of CrossFit experience, including one with very little experience. They took the needs of the group in stride and helped us adjust as necessary. Best gym I've ever worked out in. Lindsay(owner) is very knowledgeable, positive and always willing to help all her members. She knows how to modify workouts to accommodate all injuries and weaknesses. Plus all the workouts are different and fun. The gym is always clean and organized. The trainers running the classes are also very positive, knowledgeable and good at motivating you to get through the workouts. So happy I found Revamp 1 1/2 years ago! When I first started with them, I was at square one regarding my fitness level because of a knee injury. What I love about them is the attention they give you based on your own individual capabilities. They work with you and will only push when they know you are ready. The owners (Matt and Lindsay) have dedicated themselves to creating a supper positive community, where athletes of all levels can achieve personal goals with strong support. Great little Crossfit gym! My brother and I were on vacation in the area and dropped in for a few CF sessions. Really enjoyed meeting the local athletes and working out with Tanner, who has a great, motivating attitude and really seems to know his stuff. He even pointed out a few mistakes I'd been making in my form that the coaches at my home gym had missed. Drop-in fees were very reasonable and facilities are perfectly adequate. Culture. The culture at Revamp is personified by Lindsay Ashton, the active day-to-day business owner. The culture and environment here is completely nonjudgemental and not intimidating. For some reason, for the most part, members wear modest and unbranded clothes - people aren't here to show off. The members here vary widely in age, fitness level, and shape/size, and include LGBTQ folks (including my wife and I). Everyone is there with a common goal, and the classes have a very friendly feel - I've been working out with most of the people in our 6 AM class for the entire time I've been a member at Revamp. Everyone works hard and at their own pace - there are a lot of really amazing stories here, including major weight loss and health and performance gains. The trainers and fellow classmates all have our best interests at heart, and it's a very special workout environment - there's a reason they call it the Revamp family! Accommodations. The trainers at Revamp know that everyone starts at a different place, and the workouts are highly variable - there are always modifications available for your needs. Have an injury and can't run? Use the rowing machine. Can't do box jumps just yet? Do step-ups. At one point, our 6 AM Circuit class had members whose primary languages were English, Spanish, American Sign Language, and Farsi. Revamp embraces the fact that their members come from a variety of fitness levels and backgrounds. Cost. When I first looked into joining Revamp, my wife and I shopped around to compare costs. We've joined a gym before - for us, it's not enough to just have access to machines and weights. You need real people designing your workout, increasing the level of difficulty when you need it, providing guidance, and holding you accountable. Because of this, we regularly attend our classes and make use of the money we are investing in our health at Revamp. With the small class sizes, customized workouts, and access to the trainer before and after classes, services at Revamp are comparable to personal training sessions. When you consider this, what you get at Revamp is a very good value - and you will reap the rewards. Overall, if you are like us and can't afford personal training sessions but want more than a generic gym membership, the prices for the classes at Revamp are very reasonable for the level of personal attention and customization you get. Classes. I typically attend Circuit classes and the Strength - Legs class weekly. Both classes are small and limited to 10 and 8 attendees, respectively. The Circuit class is a combination of cardio and weight based exercises that is designed to keep your body on your toes. Every workout is different and was designed by the trainers at Revamp. It's really fun because you get to do all sorts of things - from lifting a tire and doing tire runs to doing all sorts of body weight as well as weight-based activities. Strength classes are conducted in four week rotations. Each rotation uses different workouts and focuses on different muscles. For instance, the current legs rotation has a lot of emphasis on quads, with movements including the single leg deadlift, weighted box step-ups, and reverse lunges (with weights). Every Strength class ends with a final round of weights/cardio that really kicks your butt. Crossfit for the Masses. Revamp also offers Crossfit classes - my wife and I are enjoying our Circuit classes so much that we haven't tried the Crossfit classes yet. However, we've seen members of a variety of ages and fitness levels join and excel in Crossfit classes. The gym is very safety oriented and they put a lot of emphasis on having the correct form. Revamp also hosts Friday Night Lights for the Crossfit Open. Anyone who wants to compete can sign up - my wife and I participated last year, and my wife is participating this year. It's great because it's open to all members, even if you haven't tried Crossfit. Trainers walk us through a detailed warm-up and then best practices for each movement. It's a lot of fun - everyone is rooting for everyone, and some people compete scaled and some do it at the Rx level. If you are looking for a non-intimidating way to get into Crossfit, Revamp is the place to be! Trainers. The trainers for my classes have been primarily Lindsay (the owner) and Cassie. They're both super knowledgeable trainers who have learned to communicate with my wife and I (we are deaf) in ASL. We've graduated to the point where we don't need to write on the whiteboard anymore to communicate with them. Lindsay is invested in helping everyone get stronger at their pace - she's super friendly and always has a smile on her face. Cassie is focused and really good at pushing me when I need it and making modifications when I need it (back issues).
