Great gym, great clientele and wonderful staff (Ginger, Ben Anthony, Mikial, Romero, Eric, etc.) who are very responsive to members' needs. The gym has an extensive complement of free weights, resistance machines, and cardio equipment (treadmills, stationary bikes, stairmasters, etc.) as well as a variety of group classes led by competent personnel. This is to Ginger - The Business Managers Response. Have you yourself been inside the gym anywhere between 4pm-7pm? Have you seen the amount of kids sitting on machines on their phones? Or the grown adults standing around machines talking to each other. I get it's a small community and a place to connect, but there is a time and place. It's ridiculous for the people with full time jobs, families and barely have an hour to themselves to workout but can't because of the BS at this gym. And trust me, I'm not the only one. This gym is pretty mediocre now. More than anything, it's just small and has limited options, which isn't necessarily a problem on its own. Unfortunately, gym etiquette is mixed at best here. People can and do break gym rules on the regular and perch on multiple pieces of equipment, wiping down equipment after use is far from a given, I've even seen a woman leave candy on top of the weights of machines only to snack on them later. A problem I continue to face here is someone who camps out on a piece of cardio equipment (one of the few I can use due to a knee injury) for most of an hour when others are waiting, even taking breaks to walk away from the machine entirely and get water and walk around. It's tiring to have to either time this person and show they have gone over the gym rules permitted time, or just hope they get off this machine in time for me to make it to work on time (they never do). I really loath having to come twice in a day to a gym for a full workout, which unfortunately with this place is a common occurrence. read more

I wanted to support my local gym during the pandemic, so I continued with my monthly payments even though I didn't use the gym. I eventually set my account to freeze so I could maintain my current monthly rate when I came out of freeze. They were very accommodating. However, I was all ready to return to the gym the other day. I walked out as soon as I walked in. They state on the door that masks are required, but literally every other person I walked by had theirs off or down around their chin!! And, the air was SO STUFFY. I really didn't have any confidence in the safety. I will wait until the COVID has passed through and is on the way out before I return here. The club staff do not enforce county masking mandate- they ignore people walking around masKress and rarely have their front desk staffed. Management is unwilling to step up, because they are desperate for business over keeping people safe. Their solution to it is to offer members to freeze their membership (by paying more money) for up to 4 months if they don't like their lax attitude. Truly disappointing- especially if you buy a year membership. I would recommend buying a pass over a membership since they don't genuinely care about their members" safety and well being. read more

If you are in Morro bay Visiting and would like to get some gym time in FitnessWorks is the place to go. I was in town on vacation and decided to check this gym out. Great daily ($15) and weekly ($35) rates if you're in town on vacation. They have plenty of cardio machines and even have a crossfit area. I utilized both and got a great session in. I just joined Fitnessworks in June and could not be happier. The gym is in great shape with all the equipment you could want. The people that work out there have all been very friendly, the staff have been so nice and always available to help out. The gym seems to be handling and following the Covid stated guidelines and now provides outside workout options during the inside temporary closure- I actually like the outside area better than working out inside, sunshine and fresh air! My son and I trained here two days in a row while vacationing in nearby Cayucos. $12/day for a guest pass. Nice uncomplicated gym. Very nice people working and training there. Plus free fruit. 100% positive experience. My only - halfhearted - complaint is that Dolly's Donuts is right there when you walk out the front door. But I don't blame the gym for that. read more

Fitness Works on quintanna Road is a huge place. An incredible quantity of machines to choose from. But I didn't use any of that. I came in the front desk was very pleasant and very kind and very helpful, as they pointed me to the room where I'm sure they have a variety of classes, but the class I went to was a dance class, two step dancing. Beginners. Well I have to say the room was beautiful clean and fit us perfectly with about 10 couples in the class. The lady who led the class was so clear and a perfect speaker, who let everybody in the nicest way as all ice beginners tried to learn a few dance steps. This should be a lot of fun, and it is. I was in town for a weekend getaway and needed to get a workout in. I found Fitnessworks on accident, and I was incredibly satisfied! The place has a lot to offer. A serious weight training area, cables and machines section, and cardio machines section. I noticed two studios as well. The place is great, community oriented, and the staff is exceptional. Anthony showed me the utmost hospitality and even gave me some suggestions on where to eat and have a good beer. I highly recommend Fitnessworks! This is the gym my husband and I joined nine years ago when we relocated from the Los Angeles area. It is clean, well managed and friendly. Plus, if you have an injury or need special help, this is not only a gym but a physical therapy business. A perfect combination for us. They have well maintained equipment and good classes. I've been a FW member for a few months now, and I'm pleased to report it is the best fitness club I have ever joined. And, as many times as I've joined gyms in my weight loss saga, that is saying something. One of the best things about FW is the KidWorks childcare center. I realize many places have childcare facilities, but this one is different. Any time I set foot into a kid's room at other gyms, it was like taking a dive into a petri dish straight from hell. Sticky, smelly, absolutely foul, chaos. This room is clean and organized and I don't feel the need to submerge my baby in a pool of Purell after leaving. Most importantly, the staff is excellent. Every time we go it is the same people so I'm not handing my kid off to another stranger each day. Many other gyms have the room staffed by mom members who watch kids for a few hours in exchange for a free or discounted membership (and by "watch kids" I mean they sit and play Words with Friends while the kids shove things up their noses and eat crayons). They feed her, play with her, change diapers, the whole shebang. My daughter absolutely loves going to the kid's room and I'm able to enjoy my workout knowing she feels safe and content. Some people gripe that childcare is not included in the membership and is an extra charge, but I would rather pay a tiny little fee for a more enjoyable experience for my daughter. If my petri dish/Purell comments above didn't tip you off, I am a major germaphobe. Many times I am derailed from going to the gym due to some vile sickness I contract from less than sanitary conditions. Everything here is clean, clean, clean! I haven't been grossed out once, which is a feat for me. Considering that this is in little Morro Bay, you can expect that everyone who works here is friendly. I think almost everyone that works there has come up to say hi and introduce themselves or offer words of encouragement. I don't think they are required to do this either, as every encounter I've had has been very genuine. This also also made me feel more comfortable to branch out and try some group fitness classes that I was a bit intimidated to try. I'm glad I did, because I'm addicted to them! Love BodyCombat and Zumba! Definitely try those - just don't take my spot! For a gym in a small town there is quite a selection to choose from too. I also elected to try personal training. The fee here is slightly lower than other clubs and there is no minimum to buy or a time slot you have to commit to X times a week. I appreciate not being pressured and having the freedom to choose the frequency of our sessions. I also feel like the time I spend with my trainer is time well spent. Previous trainers at other gyms have just told me to get on the treadmill and they disappear for 20 minutes. We pack a lot into the hour and I've learned to try a lot of new things and improve my form as well. I feel like my trainer listened to what my goals are and planned accordingly instead of giving a generic go-to routine. One of my big pet peeves I've experienced at other gyms (namely ones in SLO) is that I feel while I was working with a trainer they were always trying to sell me something. More sessions, bigger packages, etc. It is so much nicer being able to focus on the workout rather than listening to a sales pitch. Lastly, even at peak hours I don't feel like I have to wait for equipment. There are more cardio machines at FW than at some of the bigger gyms in SLO. I think the only time I've had to wait for something is when an old man fell asleep at the leg press. But that's Morro Bay for you! read more

Been a member since late January 2016 and let me tell you that this place is changing the course of my life one pound loss at a time. I credit my continued interest to the wonderful staff! The trainers are amazing individuals who share weight loss experiences being triumphs and failures alike. They relate to you and are always near to lend a listening ear with a high punch of encouragement! This place is for young and old alike. Bring your favorite old tshirt, sweatpants, and old pair of chucks (converse) and you'll fit right in! This place is not full of vanity, pretentiousness, or judgement. Rather the environment is a kick ass high adrenaline, you can do this, get off your ass and WORK kind of place! I'm almost to 25lbs lost and I gotta tell you... It's not the weights nor the treadmills that lead you to success... It's the countless people both staff and members alike that really do rally for you! I can't credit my success to my own regime.. A big thank you to Laura, Sandy, Christina, Uriel, Danny, Jenny, etc.... If you are not a member, I strongly suggest you come check this place out. Plenty of parking.... Hours are decent... I was a member of Fitness Works for several years until I had to move back to Bakersfield full-time. When I first started there I was just starting to try and get into shape. This gym is so welcoming and open to every one. I immediately felt like part of the Fitness Works family and made many friends. They have great classes, keep their equipment up to date, have regular gym cleaning and organizing days and even have a running group that trains and runs races together. Now whenever I get a chance to get to Morro Bay I make sure and go by, to take some classes sure, but also to connect with the great staff and friends that I have made. read more

My husband and I came here while visiting from out of town. I am always in search for kettle bells and TRX straps and they had both, so for me it was a thumbs up. I felt like the overall size of the gym was small. The equipment was pretty dated but it got the job done. The place is old and dirty. The machines are old, the kind I used when I first started going to a gym in the late 1990's, they also don't have enough machines so you often have to wait. The headphone jacks don't work and they don't care to fix or replace them. In addition they are way over priced. I talked to many people who go there and it's all they know so don't expect any better. read more

I am a fan of Fitnessworks, both the gym and the physical therapy parts. The gym, though not fancy, is clean and carefully laid out to provide a place for everyone to work out. They stay up to date with the latest in fitness classes, make improvements to the equipment and facilities regularly and provide an encouraging supportive atmosphere. I feel welcome there, my questions are always answered cheerfully and I like that both young and older folks work out at their own level along side each other. They offer childcare for a small fee too. I needed some pt and was very pleased with the professional caring service I received from that aspect of Fitnessworks too. I find it good value for my money. I am so happy to have a gym in Morro Bay. I have been a member of a few gyms in my time and this one is the best of all of them; not pretentious, not snooty, but a great place to come as I am and be challenged with a workout and/or a class. Went and tried out a the new massage therapist at Massage works! It was a fabulous massage Liz is great at her craft and I left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated l. I love how she has specials of spa services for the different seasons and offers scrubs and wraps .
