I saw this place on instagram so my friend and I decided to pop in and check it out. Staff were very friendly, helpful, and service was quick. I believe it's $7 to play games (flat fee) my friend talked to the server while I was checking out games and he paid so it could be an hour? We were there for a full hour so sorry if wrong info! I was honed in on playing sega so I did not pay attention to the other consoles, but I added a picture. I wish they had sega genesis The only negative to the bar from my short visit is the music, it sounded like the music that's played in a horror movie during an attack LOL. A bit tooooo dark and eerie, maybe a bit more of a mix and some upbeat sounds would be better. I don't knock the people that enjoy that music but it dulled my vibe. A much better version of the arcade bars you see popping up. Great staff, stuff drinks and a nice vibe. Definitely can feel more of a "locals only" type place where you only go there to see people from the neighborhood so first timers who are off out, just trust the bartenders and stuff are always super great with new people to their spot. read more

Our second time visiting as we loved our first visit and were eagerly awaiting another chance to visit! We had our dogs with us and the bartender was nice enough to let us bring them inside as long as they are well behaved. The inside is pretty big and I love their new wall mural, super cute and matched the vibes well. I ordered the Wind Waker cocktail while my boyfriend got the watermelon temple. Both drinks were delightful! We then got mocktails where I got the Crash one and he got the Shrub Zero one. We also got food: Fire Flower curry with fried chicken for me while he got the Tenders game. Both entrees were filling and packed with flavor, including their fries too! No games for us this time but they had the latest Mortal Kombat playing on a big screen and several other booths playing all sorts of games on a variety of consoles. I've been coming here pretty much every week for a few years, so that should tell ya everything you need to know about my opinion. At first glance you might think this is another arcade bar, but it's more like someone's retro console living room. Huge game library, every console you remember from childhood (those of us of a certain age anyways), and a good selection of cabinets. For the purists, there's even 3 trinitron CRTs and a PVM. On top of that, the staff is amazing and welcoming to all. Hands down my favorite bar in the area. Weekends can get kind of busy, so if you really want your choice of a specific console/game it's best to visit during the week. read more

This place is so fun! My partner and I were visiting Portland and we stumbled upon this place while looking for things to do at night in town. I'm not a huge video game person (although I love playing the games I enjoy) but my partner is and it was a fun thing we could do together. We sat down with an N64 and Mario Kart and Mario Party and had a nostalgic blast for a couple hours. We were able to sit on these very comfy couches to play to boot. They have a huge array of options on so many different consoles. Even as a non-gamer, I really enjoyed seeing all the old school titles they had to offer. They have an inventive bar menu with great names, and the atmosphere is generally fun and chill. The decor is fun too. We went on a weeknight and there were not many people there, so we had our pick of consoles. I imagine when it's busy you'll have to wait for a table/TV or to use a particular system. 2nd time here and honestly, couldn't be happier with an establishment. Came here this second time as a part of a bachelor party and this is one of the few arcade bars that has a great and accessible location and great hours of operation. All of the machines are pristine. It's hard to maintain this many machines, and not only do they have a wide variety, but even the old ones and the pinball machines are all well taken care of. The room with all the new stuff is very cool as well with lots of really interesting games. We really had our run of the place for most of the time we were there. The bar had some great options for drinks and local drafts - didn't get food this time but there's always more opportunities to go here! read more

Super cute game bar/late night hangout spot! We were lucky to come during their 2yr anniversary week and was able to play games for free all night. usually it would be $5 per game. I'm a rookie at games so we were trying out different games before sticking with mario cart and street fighters. There were around 4 stations for games at the bar and a bunch more scattered around the place. There's also parking in the back of the building. I took a few pictures outside with the neon lights because missing a photo op? not me! It was a little intimidating when we walked in because to be honest I was clueless as to what to do and where to go. Perhaps a little sign/poster would help but hey, i'm still new to the whole game bar scene :3 Between 2 people we got a cranberry vodka, the lavender town, and a peach beach slushie (daily special). Cranberry vodka is standard, lavender town was ok. It was stronggg, but minimal lavender or lychee taste. The daily special slushie was the highlightttt. I thought this place was actually pretty cool. The arcade/bar concept has been around for years, but this one is gaming consoles, which is awesome! I believe they have a lot of old school systems like Nintendo, N64, SNES, PS1, etc. it's great and they are spread out everywhere in this tiny place. The downside is the wait is excruciatingly looong. If you can get in early enough in the evening, you'll find a spot, but it's not easy on the weekend. Retro Game Bar is such a fun place! If you spent your childhood playing video games in the 80's and 90's this is the place for you!! I stopped by one evening with my husband and we ordered a couple drinks and took a seat in front of a Nintendo and played a bit of Mega Man. I was instantly transported back to my childhood! Once we were able to break away from Mega Man we discovered an old Atari set! I couldn't believe this was in the bar and they also had my favorite game, Pitfall!! When I was here the bartender was super nice. There are lists of the games that are available to play. The bar staff can grab you whatever your heart desires. I really did have so much fun here. So glad I found a place where I can play Star Wars Battlefront (I&II), drink beer on tap while noshing on yakisoba while I respawn. And yes I know all this can be done in the comfort of your home but sometimes it's nice to go out w/ friends and pay money to do it somewhere else & make a night of it. And prices are pretty reasonable at $6/person for unlimited gaming for the night. They have a bunch of old consoles, N64, PlayStation 2/3/4 & maybe 1, all Xboxes, and I think a SEGA too. My boyfriend and I game a LOT so when we came to Portland last summer, this was on our must-see list. I'm still kicking myself that we didn't come here first thing! The staff was super friendly but not in your face so you can do your thing, the food was fucking killer, and holy damn the game selection is just astounding. I was poking around and found titles I played on Super Nintendo and N64 when I was a kid and completely forgot about (as one does after 25 years). The staff was totally unfazed by my enthusiasm which might've been a bit over the top and was totally cool with swapping games out and such so I could run train on every possible title I could play before my guy ran out of steam and we had to go (sorry for the run on sentence...I get pumped about this place just recalling the memory of it). I would be remiss if I didn't add that this place is so great, not only is it the first place I recommend people to when they ask about when to do in Portland, but I actually made sure to schedule upcoming vacation flights departing from and arriving to PDX to allow me time to shlep my ass over to RGB. How many joints can you say are good enough to plan vacation itineraries around so you can actually make the place a jumping off point and punctuation to a holiday? None? None yet, you mean! You can play as many games as you want and they have an awesome selection. It's the perfect date night - either romantic or platonic. You get to hang out with a buddy and feel like you are hanging out at home without having to do that awkward shuffle to clean up first! The place is really cozy and the times I have been there it hasn't been too overcrowded or loud (checkmate GK). You get served quickly. I love this new bar! What a welcome addition to the neighborhood. It's a cute small space with great bar area and tons of TV areas to play to your retro game heart's content. We're talking Sega, NES, SNES, and tons of games across consoles and cabinets. Whoever owns this place really knows their shit and has collected hundreds of games and consoles. It boggles my mind that these machines and the controllers are in such amazing condition. Drinks take a bit to be made but it's a new spot so I give them a pass for service/wait for now. Food is gluttonous and tasty as hell. Really accommodating menu for all dietary restrictions as well. Best perks? The consoles at the bar. You can literally sit and play with the TVs over the bar. Beers are amazing and so many video game themed options! Prices are incredible, nuff said. Parking is limited to a lot behind the building. I recommend walking or biking if you head over in the evening. The only mild bummer I can see is the limited seating for non-gaming folks. Many times I've come in to play a game, only to find the tables with TVs and consoles taken up by folks drinking and eating but not playing. Not a major issue, but worth noting. read more

Saw this place on the news and being avid Super Nintendo fans, knew we had to try it. Got there around 2:30 on a Saturday, walked to the bar, got drinks (husband had a beer and I had Aviation Gin and tonic) then found the console we wanted to play. The bartender wasn't rude, but not overly friendly either, asked him for Super Mario Bros and he swapped it out for us. We had a blast for a couple hours. Could definitely see going back for a night out with friends. They have a small menu, but were told with each thing we wanted to try that he was "out of it". Good thing we ate before we went. Love it love it love it. On one hand, I don't want to share this spot bc it's so dope I don't want others to find it and crowd me out. On the other, I want them to thrive and stay in business. So I guess I'll do the right thing and sing their praises to whomever on Yelp will listen. I've always thought Retro Game Bar was rad. It's basically a bunch of living room setups (currently separated by plexiglass for the COVID of it all) at which you can play pretty much any vintage home video game system your heart desires. SNES, Game Cube, N64, Sega Genesis, the original X Box. They've got them all! During the pandemic they clean the stations and the controllers between parties, and honestly it's the safest I've felt in ANY bar. They have fun signature cocktails and you can also get pretty much any standard drink, too. Plenty of beers, and they serve White Claws. For food they partner with Yoshi's Kitchen (https://www.yelp.com/biz/yoshi-s-kitchen-portland) so feel free to nosh on some Japanese curry or musubi while you play your games. This place is the best.
