My first and last visit here. From the moment we arrived, our server was rude and unwelcoming. Every time we asked for something, she sighed and acted as if we were a burden. Instead of making us feel welcome, she actively discouraged us from ordering food by repeatedly saying the wait would be very long. When we asked for her name, she refused to provide it, which immediately felt unprofessional and concerning.(goth looking girl with mini bangs and no eyebrows) Things escalated when the bartender refused to serve my friend, claiming he "looked drunk," even though he had not consumed a single drop of alcohol and had only ordered food. This was humiliating and completely unjustified. What made the experience truly disturbing was that as we were leaving, the same server followed us to the bar across the street and told them not to serve us. We were treated like criminals for absolutely no reason. I felt degraded, embarrassed, and shocked that staff would behave this way. I was genuinely excited to try this place for the first time, but the way we were treated was disappointing and disgusting. Because of this experience, I will never return and would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

So so fun here and such a cool vibe inside. So many vintage games & modern ones & you can buy credits on your phone which is convenient if you don't have quarters. They have multiple bars and a stage area & there was pretty much no waits for ordering drinks because they had more than one bar. Had so much fun here! read more

My friends and I stopped by here to kill some time before going somewhere else and it was a fun experience. It's only $2 to get in and if you already have some spare quarters it's extremely affordable. It's not too loud even with all the games because they are spread out throughout the building and there seems to be pretty decent insulation. The person at the front took our payment and gave us wristbands after checking our IDs. He was very friendly and quick with his work. He explained how everything worked and we were on our way. We played good handful of games before we had to leave. We were only there for about half an hour but in that time we got to play some of our favorite classic arcade games. We didn't get any food or drinks since we were between meals but the menu looked good so I may try it next time I'm in the area. There's a restroom by the entrance and free water and cups available. There is street parking on Hawthorne but it's hard to come by - you're better off parking on the side streets and walking a little bit. I would definitely come back here. read more

This place is an absolute treasure. The games are well maintained. The food is good. Nicest bartender in the world. Thoughtfully laid out. Creative homage's, art, and themes throughout the spaces. I loved seeing so many different kinds of people having so much fun yesterday during the all ages time. I do wish there was an ATM so you could just get a ton of quarters, because the app was a little funky. I also wish that there were earplugs available because it is unreal how loud things are in the corner by the dance machine. Apologies for the long review, I'm just absolutely shocked and I feel like I need to outline this whole situation for it to make any sense. I've been coming here for years and I really love it, but last night there was an industrial goth girl tending bar and she was extremely nasty for no reason. We'd just walked up to the bar and were reading the menu, she called us over and right away her tone was passive aggressive. Then she sighed at us for needing more time to look and seemed even angrier at us once we ordered cocktails off the menu (I guess she just wants to pour vodka sodas? IDK) and started slamming the shaker on the bar much harder than necessary while we stood there awkwardly. I wish I could better describe the way she was talking to us, it was cartoonishly bratty and ugly. I tried to grab my drink as soon as she poured it because the interaction was making me so uncomfortable, then she snapped at me again about not being finished. I immediately apologized, which she responded to by continuing to lecture me. At this point I was just being berated and I'd just finished a long workday myself, so I decided I'd had enough and it was time to stick up for myself- I told her she didn't need to be rude, she told me she "thinks it's rude to grab drinks off the bar" ??? How else are you supposed to get your drink? Was I supposed to wait for her to have another tantrum? I never have interactions like this and as someone who gets pretty anxious in public I was absolutely mortified. At this point I didn't even want the drink anymore, so I told her that. She said "I just ran it, I'm NOT taking it off the tab" even though I didn't say anything about taking it off the tab :) I don't know why I would expect that from her, that would require a minuscule amount of accountability to be taken for an issue she caused. I again tried to apologize but also explained I'm both unfamiliar with what the drink looks like finished as well as these new rules of bar etiquette, I was pretty clearly upset and confused because the hostility seemed totally unprompted from my perspective. She laughed in my face and said I was "doing too much and making way too big of a deal of it". I laughed at her back and we walked away. I can understand not always having a sunny disposition when working customer service but I don't understand escalating things once a customer interaction goes badly. I work in a bar too and I believe part of your job is to not make patrons feel horrible. Before leaving I told another bartender what happened, he was very sympathetic and heard me out which I really appreciated. He was skeptical at first, which I don't blame him for, it sounds made up! He made it right but I'm a little freaked out to come back for fear of getting chewed out again. read more

I had a disappointing experience at this bar due to the bartender's rude and unprofessional behavior the bartender was female with black hair bangs the interaction was very rude from the start and filled with sighs and very unhappy about working there . She does not like her job very clearly see that. We spent money there not just $20 dollars am lost over $100 and was being good business to this company who feeds you and gives you a check besides the point she was Very dismissive and hostile for no clear reason. I want to say it was not racially motivated but it was we were the only brown people there treated like this . The difference in treatment felt discriminatory and appeared to be racially motivated, which made the experience especially uncomfortable. All customers should be treated with respect and fairness. I hope management addresses this to ensure a more inclusive environment going forward read more

Just happened to drop by here in my first trip to Portland after getting pizza, and I'm so glad I did! This is the best barcade I've ever been to (okay, I only ever checked out the one across the street), but seriously, you have to check this place out. It is $2 to enter and you can pay by credit card and go in-and-out for that day. This place has plenty of pinball and modern games. The games are only $0.25-$1. The coolest part is you can use quarters or download an app and pay with your credit card through bluetooth to a specific game. Also, the drinks are super affordable like $8 for a potion drink or $25 for a fishbowl. On Wednesday they have half off games! I really wish I lived here so I could keep playing the Stepmanix game, which is like DDR but you get three songs even if you fail one. They even have a box fan set up. This place is really awesome for gamers or even casual gamers. You can easily spend hours here. It's not as big as commercialized arcades but it was plenty enough to have fun. Retro video game wonderland. My daughter and I killed the Asteroids high score on the big screen! Dance Dance Revolution? Check. Pinball? They've got them all. Great for all ages; they have basketball, skeeball and others geared towards the littles (welcome until 8pm). Photo booth souvenirs available. Prices were good and the games take quarters, not tokens, with change machines in the lobby. Admission was $1 and seemed fair enough. One of the machines ate some of our quarters, but when we told the bartender, not only did we get the money back, there were also a couple credits put on the game. They've got a menu and full bar, but I ordered a canned cider and am glad I did after my daughter (culinary student) pointed out that the person behind the bar had just handled money, then food, then put their hands in the limes for a cocktail. I can't say it was a very good experience. It was a barcade, but I went during a time where kids were allowed (1PM-7PM on weekends), but that was my bad for not researching. So I guess keep that in mind if you want to go for an adult experience. Cover's only a few dollars, and it has a nice arcade feel, but it did feel grungy. I got some quarters, played a game on a Cirqus Voltaire pinball machine, went to play a second game on the same machine...and the machine didn't recognize that the ball was lost, so it was stuck. Okay. Played on the Star Wars: Mandalorian pinball machine, then went to play on some multi-game arcade machine, where it promptly ate two of my quarters. I was just done at that point. I didn't get a chance to try and food or drinks since I was so annoyed. More than a couple of machines were out-of-order. Would've been neat to play arcade Battletoads, but it was one of the ones that was down. read more

They have a great pinball selection. There was even a pinball technician on site to maintenance the games. 2 bars, decent food and a small selection of video poker for the gambler in us all. They do take cards for the bar and $2 entry fee. The games run on quarters. I'll definitely be back after I get over the lack of parking trauma. read more

It's a pretty decent space and they have a lot of games to choose from. Most games range from fifty cents to a dollar. It smells a little funky in there but I think that's a bit of a given. Old theatre turned arcade bar. Pros and cons are very extreme here. Full bar is moderately priced. Selection of games is fantastic. A variety of stuff from Donkey Kong era all the way up to newest Mariokarts. I think baseline cost for any game is 50 cents. Lots of pinballs. Some machines played flawless others had issues. At least 6 machines were out of order when i was there. The parking is horrible. Expect to park in the nearby neighborhoods and walk past many street tents. Building itself is historic, charming yet dingy. I'd say the best/ most beautiful area in the place is the lounge which has four gorgeous blacklight wall paintings. read more

As you can tell from my previous review, I used to love this place. As of 2019 though, I'm not as much of a fan. They truncated their menu significantly, raised prices on food/drink and have service so rude I wonder if they go out of their way to hire the rudest people. A couple of visits ago, my wife and I ordered a sandwich and it arrived intact (as in, not cut in half like most sandwich places do it.) Since we wanted to split it, we asked for a knife. The bartender said they didn't have knives. We asked if she could take it to the kitchen for them to cut in half, she said no. Keep in mind, this was a weekday afternoon and we were some of the only people there. We took it back to the table, awkwardly ripped it in half and made a huge mess. She got a 5% tip, something I almost never do. That's typical of the service at Quarterworld. The last time I visited, which was a few weeks ago, will probably be the last time I visit. Same mediocre stuff, and I've given them several chances but they keep failing. The quality keeps going down, and I don't want to keep paying for sub-par dining and gaming experiences. read more

But back to the 80s, as far as games, QW has Donkey King, Galaga, Joust, Ms Pac (fast play), Tron, Tempest...and that's about it, tbh. This place boasts a cool concept, but lacking in some of the 'hits' like Q*Bert, Dig Dug, Centipede, and a huge fav of mine, Burgertime. Booze and food available for those who want to 'mutli-task'. As for pins, Attack from Mars, 3-D was a hoot to play. I forgot how funny the audio was... Since moving back to Portland a couple months ago, I sure have gotten on the pinball train. I love it, and QuarterWorld has received a fair amount of my cash. LIKES: - Good selection of pinball machines, especially like Monster Bash that's older and has a reasonable replay score - Decent selection of beers, full bar for those so inclined - Glad that they have an adult-only room - Nice bartenders DISLIKES: - A cover? That is just BS. I mean, sure, if you are going to discount the games, but if not... that's crap. And the games are definitely not discounted. - The number of kids that come here - How dingy it is - The prices - The food looks pretty not good. Looks alone have kept me from considering a snack. I miss being in Bend for the arcade place downtown (Victor Volcano) a lot. I do really like the concept of QuarterWorld, and everyone was working really nice. But I will also say, even though this is a bar setting, it was pretty disgusting inside. Nothing felt very clean, the bathrooms weren't very well kept up with, and it was overall a sticky experience. I will say, bizarrely, their fries were very very good. The other food... left something to be desired. Overall, pretty cool experience but definitely not a place I'd frequent. read more

What a fun and unique place to revisit your nostalgia! I came here with a friend and we got in before the rush around 8pm. It was 2$ entry and there are atm's inside to pull out money to exchange for quarters. All the classics are inside including Time Crisis, DDR and even an air hockey table. Came here for my cousins birthday and this place def brings back the late 80s and 90s feel. They have pinball machine to skee ball to video games. Almost everything most 80s/90s kid will recognize. Don't be fooled though, this place does charge a cover fee (they have reduced cover during happy hour). Being a place name quarter world, one would think that it cost a quarter to play. Each game actually cost about $1-3 and usually about 2-3 lives per game. After that $1 to play again. All of this could add up very quickly. The games were fun, the bar was nice to enjoy some adult beverages while you dive into the games. They also have a separate bar area where it's more quiet. read more
