This was my first ever Corpus Christi restaurant. Retro clearly had the vibe of an 80s/90s arcade, with a full bar/restaurant. The staff was super friendly, and helped me place my pizza order. The Chicago style pizza that I ordered was super yummy. It wasn't as epic as Gino's in Chicago, but it was not bad for South Texas. This review is solely for the arcade and rooftop bar as we didn't eat while we were there. I had heard many great things about Retro prior to our visit and now I can see why. My partner and I visited on a Saturday night and had a blast. To be honest we had both broken a sweat after so many rounds of their NFL throwing game. The arcade was $15 per person for unlimited play which I thought was reasonable and we definitely got our moneys worth. There's a large variety of games and even though there was a crowd there we didn't wait long for the popular games. The rooftop patio was also very lively during our visit. There was a live band playing and the crowd seemed to be loving it. The music wasn't our style but they sounded very good. A heads up for women visiting this place - there is a section of flooring that looks over the bar downstairs. This is a warning to not wear a skirt or avoid this flooring while you're there. Overall we highly enjoyed our visit to retro and would definitely recommend if you're looking for a fun night out! read more

The picture that they advertise and their menu is not what you get there was barely any sauce or any fillings in the pizza for the amount of money they charge for. The WORST customer service in Corpus Christi. Planned a corporate event here and reserved the rooftop. When we get there to set up the events manager Sara stated we never requested the rooftop, although it was confirmed verbally and in writing multiple times. They wanted us to use the downstairs but at least wanted the upstairs area since we had originally reserved the rooftop. They ended up making it work and the bartenders were fabulous. Sara on the other hand, when I apologized for the confusion (even though my apology wasn't necessary as we had requested this months ago and got approval) she gave me attitude and walked off. Then when we went to settle the bill, it was almost double than originally quoted. We did add on some drinks which should have only been about an extra 100$, not double the cost which we ended up paying. DO NOT recommend this place to anyone!!! read more

Kind of overpriced for how many games didn't work. There is also supposed to be only 21+ after 8p, but there were still kids after 8p when we went (running upstairs which is against the rules, and reaching up to press buttons when we were already at an arcade station ) Overall clean and cool place, but the food was okay and service was also okay. I went on a Thursday night when it wasn't very busy but still had to wait around 10 minutes for someone to take our order. Overall, for the price for unlimited free play? This place is really cool! Two levels. Bottom floor is the bar/restaurant area and is connected to prohibition. I don't recommend wearing a dress or skirt here because the 2nd story flooring is glass and you can look up from the 1st floor. We ordered pizza and mozzarella sticks. Both were delicious and came out in a timely fashion. Usually pizza and fried foods make me deathly ill (probably IBS or something, but I can't resist a pizza), but their food did not make me sick or bloat like crazy. Their menu does say they make their crust. So they're probably not using trash ingredients like big chain restaurants. The 2nd floor is the arcade and bar. You pay $15 for a wristband to go HAM in the arcade. Best value I've seen. Lots of different game options. Had an absolute blast. Excellent service. Will definitely be returning. read more

As first-time Retro Bar & Grill patrons, my family and my friends had a great time. The great vibe, music, and games were absolute and were reiterated by our family the next day. The artworks and the bridge that cover the bar are impressive, along with the cleanliness throughout the establishment. We ordered the food upon the bartender's request, who suggested the pizza was affordable but delicious. We were not disappointed. Pizza is by far one of the best I have had, according to my half-Italian kids. Full of flavor and delicious. Wings and chili cheese fries were outstanding. You will not be disappointed. The staff were beyond responsive. They got packed, and we waited no more than 2 minutes for a beverage. Not only that, but everyone had a great attitude. Felt like we were more family than a patron. The bartenders and barback made sure we got what we wanted without waiting. We even met one of the owners who happened to give us a synopsis of the business and walk-thru of the new Prohibition Bar, which will be opening soon. This place caught my eye while my friends and I were searching for a place to eat in Corpus Christi. It is in a good location, a walkable distance from the beach, and the servers were all really nice. However, the pizza wasn't the best for the one hour wait that I had. It wasn't bad, just not worth all that time. Some of my friends got their pizza earlier though. The best part about this place is the atmosphere. The people are friendly and the karaoke was so fun! I took my kids here on a Sunday and we played games. It's 15 plus tax but is unlimited games. Good assortment of pinball, arcade and other options. The air hockey was lots of fun. It has a really neat glass floor that has a view down into the bar. Honestly we planned on eating there too but have not had luck with food at places known as a bar, but after reading posts and seeing pics we might have to try the food out next time. Looked to have great seating to eat and enjoy. This is definitely a place we would recommend checking out. read more

Loved coming here since it first opened! Tonight, however, it's a different story. Service was not up to par as it previously had been. My food order had come out about 30 minutes after ordering, but my husband's order had not yet come out for a little more than an hour. After inquiring about waiting for his order, we were told that his was just being made! Not a good thing! My meal wasn't great either. The fries had a strange burnt taste. The only positive part of our experience was the manager who gave us our money back and apologized for the not great experience. This new bar-cade that opened up in town definitely has some improvements to do or as some would say "work the kinks out". It is set up where the top floor is games and the bottom is food. It's an all-or-nothing unlimited game play of $15 and you cannot opt out if you want to play the games. The pinball machines were cool but the other games half of them were already broken for a new establishment, such a bummer. I had the chicken "fingers" and a beer and the food is mediocre at best. The chicken was like bits and pieces it wasn't even a finger and the beer was flat. When I told the bartender my friends and I's beer is flat he tasted it and says "I don't see anything wrong with it" and didn't troubleshoot checking the keg, asking us if we wanted something else, etc. This place has a lot of potential but so far it has a lot to improve. read more

We waited a lot several times. I even motioned to her that other customers were waiting for her. I told one couple to move to another area to be noticed. I do not feel she was having a bad day. Chicago (?) style pizza was doughy & cold. Crust was 'white', zero toast. Only thing 'chicago' about it was the thick crust around the edges. The place is super cute. Great vibe, music and games. Food is average bar good and kitchen is super slow. We went in on a Wednesday at 11:15 for early lunch. There was one other table. Upon a quick check on their social media you can see they are still not open, therefore a poor review on Retro is not necessary. Ben here a few times and this last time I was there the pizza was horrible. It has gone downhill for some reason since the opening.

(Edit) I read his reply and completely understand now. I was just frustrated at the time and when I wrote the review. I apologize to the owner and the restaurant as a whole. Though, I am still confused about how people that came in 20-30 minutes after us got their food before us. I get the whole "lots of orders at once" thing, but our food still should have come out before people that ordered after us. I am updating the review from a 1 to a 3. Oh my f*cking god! Where do I even begin! We got there at around 11:50 and we placed our order at 11:55. We ordered an overpriced pizza (which they added a five dollar gratuity fee that we were unaware of until after we paid and were handed our receipt.) The pizza was VERY mid. After we ordered, I ask my friends to text me when the food gets to the table, then I go upstairs to play some of the games they have. The selection of games was also very mid. For a so called "retro" arcade, they have an awful lot of modern games. Also, there were a few games that weren't working. I'd say about 50% of the games you could find at any arcade. I spend about 20 minutes up there before I decide to go back to the table. Maybe my friends just forgot to text me. Nope, the food still wasn't there. Then I take one of my friends up to play games with me, and we have a pretty good time on the donkey Kong machine. Speaking of the arcade games again, most of the retro arcade machines weren't even retro. They were just collections of retro games. After about 40 minutes, we decide to go back to the table. Again, no food. Our friends that stayed at the table said that someone has been coming to the table every now and that they kept saying that the food would be out soon. A few minutes after that, someone comes by and says that the food will only be another ten minutes. 15 minutes later, our food come out. By this point, we have seen large groups of families come in, order, sit down, eat, and leave before we even got our food. We eat, and as a worker passed our table, we get her attention and request we speak with a manager. (I know that sounds like we were being Karens, but I feel justified seeing as we've waited over an hour) the "manager" comes to our table and we explain to him what happened and we request a refund. He said that he needs to go get the manager manager for refunds. When she comes out, we explain to her what happened. But she said that we can't have a refund if the food has already been brought out to the table. On top of all of this, we were NEVER apologized to ONCE. It's easy to say that I will never be coming back here again. The food was average, the games were average, and the service was TERRIBLE. I'm surprised they're still in business. read more
