I went to Retina NW for 8 treatments. They push as many clients through as possible every day. Their appointments take 3-4 hours each time. All but about 15 minutes is spent in the waiting room. They do one thing then put you in the waiting room. Wait for 30 minutes or more, the do another thing and put you back in the waiting room. Then put you in a room and you sit and wait and wait and wait. They have zero regard for the amount of my time being wasted just sitting there. I saw two of the five doctors and they couldn't agree on treatment. I lost all confidence in them. I have since found Hillsboro Eye Clinic. Each appointment is less than an hour. The doctor I see is knowledgeable, the office staff is friendly and there aren't 10 to 15 people waiting around being shuffled back and forth from a waiting room. Everyone is seen promptly and not waiting around. read more

Dr. Sandhu has been treating my macular degeneration for well over a year. He is always kind, encouraging and patient and I feel I am in good hands. I usually see him at the Lake Oswego office but have also gone to the St Vincent location when there were no openings in LO. Highly recommend this practice. I have no problem with the use of a scribe and I don't see the scribes performing tech duties as well. read more

Had 2 detached retina surgeries performed by Dr. Lee. the first went well, the second did not. I am now left with blurred and distorted vision in one eye for rest of my life. Poor follow up care. go elsewhere if you value your eyesight! read more

Just too many errors. I had six issues in two visits, two of which were actual medical errors. And I shouldn't have needed two visits in the first place. I cannot recommend Dr Ma or his support staff. - First, I had a full-on examination the first visit that was largely a repeat of what I had already done TWICE elsewhere, which would be fine only it was also at a location that could not do the level of testing Dr Ma actually wanted, so I had to schedule another visit at his alternative location. I should not have needed two visits to get the requisite testing. - At points in my visits I waited as long as 40 minutes for Dr Ma to be available AFTER already having waited for full dilation. - Dr Ma made a serious factual error in defending how another medical event was unrelated to my retina issue. - One of his staff failed to dilate both eyes so he did not get the baseline he expected, but he did not offer to remedy this by then having my other eye dilated while I was there. - My follow-up was somehow scheduled incorrectly for a week later instead of six weeks later. - When I called to point this out, no staff member had the authority to actually reschedule for the date Dr Ma had wanted, without first actually talking to Dr Ma yet again, and calling me back, which wasted even more of my time. (Could have scheduled something while talking with me, even tentatively, and THEN checked to confirm with the doctor that this was in fact what he wanted, and called me back if not. But no, the default assumption is that the patient is wrong/confused. Must waste as much patient time as possible.) read more

I have been taking my mother to Dr. Ma at Retina NW for many years to treat her macular degeneration as well as her cataracts. We have found the care (diagnostics, treatment and follow-up) of not only Dr. Ma, but the entire office to be excellent. After hours care is also excellent and we have had to rely on it several times with the doctor even meeting us at the office after hours on one occasion. We are always informed that the appointment will take from 2-4 hours and we plan ahead. We have gone to the office in Vancouver, Lake Oswego and Portland. We highly recommend Dr. Ma and Retina NW. read more

I've never been to this place, but that they keep trying to hire a scribe to do scribe duties as well as technician duties is wrong. Stop trying to hire one person to fill two completely different positions!! Cheap asses! That's probably why your wait times are so long, as expressed in many other reviews. It doesn't and never works with the zag laser, it's waste of your money. Bottom line. 4 hour wait times. They tell you to pack a lunch. Peters is good, MA was an a-hole and arrogant and dismissive. Oxford Grad, and his disdain from peasant elderly is obvious. 4 hours for elderly people to have to sit in a crowded dysfunctional office awaiting a "shot" in the eye that cost the patient $2000 for Lucentis per eye! When the same company Genetech, has another drug that does exactly the same thing only under a different name called Avastin for $50 an eye. They don't tell you nor offer it unless you ask. The idea is to make a fortune injecting your eyes with Lucentis and never try to get to the underlying issues to get your eyes healthy. I dropped them when I found out and was accepted at Casey OHSU Eye Institute. DR . Thomas Hwang took one look and said he thought he could help restore my vision, where Dr Ma said I would be totally blind in a 12 months. Even with prolific dietetic retinopathy, Dr. Hwang did some laser, a couple of shots and I have 20/20 going on 5 years. Appointments are exactly teh time they set fro you, and their staff is super efficient, pleasant,supportive and you don't have to bring your lunch. I still get upset watching how they treated the elderly at NW Retina let alone myself, and remember having to give my neck pillow to an older gentlemen because he had been there 4 hours and could not keep his head up in teh stupid folding chairs. I also shared my lunch because his blood sugar was plummeting because he could not believe that he would be there so long. That's why this "Lucentis Shop" is a horrible cattle call with absolute no care for the environment there nor appearances, let alone ether patients. If you truly like them, then ask fro Avastin vs Lucentis and it will save you thousands of dollars and upset the Doctors, but that is their reputation around the industry anyway. If you can get in at Casey, you wont be treated like this, and you will feel like they care and YOU wont have to figure out the industry scam regarding Lucentis & Avantis because they practice fixing whats wrong not making a killing treating the symptoms and watching their cash registers "ch ching" every injection.. Extremely long wait. Was shuffled from exam room to waiting room, back and forth, back and forth. That took approximately 2 1/2 hours until we finally saw the doctor. I understand doctors are busy and have a tough job, but people don't have time to carve out 3 hours for a routine doctor's appointment. I work here at Retina Northwest! I am loving working here! We have a lot of new employees, and even a few new Doctors! I love coming to work! I know coming to Retina appointments can take a long time! I always tell our patients that their exams could take 2-4 hours. It always depends on if it is a new patient who needs extra photos, a patient that needs surgery or if we have a lot of emergencies. The Doctors try to spend a lot of time explaining to new patients options and about what is happening. I tell the patients, I so appreciate them hanging out with us, for the time they are there. Most patients are understanding because we once saw them as emergency patients. It is so much fun and so wonderful to help get to know our patients. It is wonderful to help patients get medications to treat retinal diseases that in the past were never available! Preserving vision for a better quality of life. I love our patients. read more

After having a few different eye conditions that my main provider was unable to help with, he referred me to Retina Northwest. I was able to quickly schedule an appointment at the location nearest to my house. My visit was longer than I expected - approx 4 hours - But in the end, it made sense. Both eyes had to be dilated, followed by many, many pictures. The staff was very friendly and helpful and Dr. Peter's was brilliant! He was knowledgeable, considerate and honest. He gave me print outs and documentation supporting this diagnosis and I left feeling that I am in good hands. I am only 35 years old and much too young to be dealing with eye issues - I am happy I have a team of eye specialists at my disposal. read more

I had an appointment in the Lake Oswego office. Took 4 hours off from work and got a ride both ways. When I got there I was told that I needed a different referral than the one I had so my insurance wouldn't cover the cost. Someone had called last week to tell me they said. Only problem was they didn't call me, they called some random number and left a message. Some accuracy when you letting someone know that there is a problem with your insurance seems like a basic office procedure but apparently not in this office. read more

Worse experience ever regarding any kind of medical care. as others have noted extremely inefficient office processes and ridiculous wait. About 1 and 1/2 hrs after scheduled apt time finally called my name. Spent over 4 hours at their offices and the wait time and horrific process was exacerbated by a rushed, aggressive and unnecessarily extremely painful exam for a torn or detached retina by Dr. Tlucek. I wouldn't trust the Dr to ever perform surgery and if I have to return to Retina NW I will refuse service from Dr. Tlucek. read more

I made an appointment with Dr Dreyer but was placed with Dr Peters without anyone telling me. There were app. 5 people in the waiting room and I had to wait 3.5 hours to see the doctor. Instead of saying he was sorry for me waiting he said it was normal for his office. I also had been to other doctors for the problem and wanted another opinion. His opinion was totally off. My mother has Macular in both eyes and requires shots in her eyes every 90 days. While Dr. Ma is a wonderful doctor, all of the offices for Retina NW seem to have no concept of customer service whatsoever. My mother is on a very fixed income and must rely on her Washington State Insurance because she does not have the money to spend on a co-pay at ANY time. Retina NW repeatedly tries to schedule her in their Portland offices despite the fact they have been told repeatedly that she can only be seen in the Vancouver office. When you try to explain this to them it falls on deaf ears and they still try to schedule in one of the Portland offices. For anyone who says people who are complaining about the horrible wait or situations like I have just described are babies, you have NO clue what people like my mother has to go through with Retina NW, so just shut up, please. If it were not for the fact that my mother has seen Dr. Ma for a very long time I would be finding another doctor who's office actually cares enough about the patients to not put them through what this place puts my mother and I through. read more

We went to the office refered from our eye exam to diagnose a retina problem. We got shrugged shoulders and a "we don't know, go to OHSU if you want to know". I have a rare retinal disease and they have been wonderful at diagnosing and treating it. I started with Dr. Handelman, and when he retired, I went to Dr. Dreyer. They are both excellent and caring doctors. The staff also has been very helpful and pleasant and since I go regularly there have been several instances where I needed them to change appointments or accommodate me and they have always made it work. Yes, generally it does take a long time for the appointments, but they are very thorough and it is worth the wait. I plan on 3 to 4 hour appointments. The offices are in convenient locations. Some are busier than others. Early morning appointments tend to go quicker. read more

I am only giving this office 1 star as the staff and the Dr seem to know what they are doing that involves the eye. However they all need to learn more about running on time and scheduling . My boyfriend's 1st visit with this office we were told that we may be here for up to 4 hours so that they could dilate his eyes and do all necessary tests. This was a 2hr process. He was scheduled at 9am was not taken back until 10am and while were in the 2nd waiting room we heard the receptionist say to a tech, "Can you use the photo room to help screen? All the patients just showed up at once." No, not everyone showed up at once people were coming in in 10-15min intervals. They were obviously overbooked and were trying to put the blame on the patients. His 2nd visit wasn't much better. He went in for surgery and they were running 3 1/2 hrs behind. Surgery was supposed to be at 9am didn't get taken back until after 1pm. His follow up appt the next day they were 40mins late for. His 2nd post op appt was 50 min late and then today they wanted him to come in to have a different dr look at his eye pressure on the surgical eye. We were brought back 20min late and the tech did the eye pressure test then told us to wait in the lobby and the Dr would check. 50min later another tech told us that everything looked good and that we could go..... the Dr didn't even see us. If it was as easy as just checking the pressure and it being at an acceptable level and getting a verbal ok why make us wait those 50min. That's something the Dr could have easily done a verbal within 5min. This place is the worst at running on time and it completely has no regard for inconveniencing it's patients. read more

I was referred to Dr Michael Lee at Retina Northwest by my optometrist because of a suspicious spot on my eye. It was a third world experience. I was told and it was true, that I should block 4 hours out of my schedule to see the doctor, a specialist. The office is a setting out of DSHS Today. It was so crowded that there was no room to sit & they were unapologetic. My I-phone was not functional for the 4 hours and they would not allow access to their wireless to patients. I could not communicate for four hours - I own a business so it was very frustrating. It was so crowded in the waiting area that I when I finally got a chair to sit in, I could smell the disgusting odor of an obese old man who was in a kilt and it was clear he hadn't taken a bath in weeks. His obesity spilled over into my chair. The time required (4hours) was only for the doctor's schedule. It wasn't because of any procedure or test that took hours. I had to take out my contacts, get my eyes dialated and then sit blind for 2 hours, maybe 2 1/2 hours waiting for the doctor to see me, along with many other people. It takes 20 minutes at the most, for eyes to be dialated. Then when I finally saw the precious Michael Lee, he barely said hello, spoke in terms that I did not understand, and tried to show me a diagram of an eye on the wall, but I was blind and could not see a thing. He didn't care. I had photos of my eye done and they were done incorrectly. I had second photos of my eye. Then, when the doctor looked a second time told me I had AMD, a serious condition that causes people to go blind. He acted like "no big deal" , he didn't discuss what to expect or how to treat it. I was handed a brochure by his assistant. He said "when you start going blind give us a call, here's a chart. Goodbye." I saw him for a maximum of 10 minutes. Hello? Thankfully the patients are elderly and don't think they have a choice about who to see. This is how this business is thriving, the vulnerable elderly. It was an unbelievably disrespectul experience. I will tell my optrician to never refer another patient to Retina Northwest. It's all about running the cattle through and making money. read more
