Excellent care. I was blind in one eye post cataract surgery (elsewhere). They saved my eye & restored my vision.

My annual visit to my eye doctor found a shadow on my retina. I went into have additional test performed. I have never been through a battery of test like I experienced here. They went from test to test without any issues. We started with a plan vision test, to numbing for dilation, pictures and additional test to the ultrasound. Before leaving I was given a full diagnostic of my problem with instructions for care. If you're ever in need of eye care, make sure to keep Retina Northwest in mind.

He got on the phone with the doctor at Retina Northwest and they literally fit me into their busy schedule. While may wait time at intervals was lengthy, every staff member in the Vancouver office was super kind. My doctor was Dr. Tlucek and he felt so down to earth and nice. He did a variety of tests of the eyes/retina allowing me moments to reset when the light in my eyes just could not be tolerated any longer. Once diagnosis was made he gave me my choices and explained procedure - I opted to get procedure done then and there because I figure we only have one set of eyes and it wasn't something that I wanted to wait around and see if things got worse. Procedure only took a minute or two - so fast. I was then scheduled for a follow up and my cataract doctor was getting faxed the results. I had a choice of offices to choose from for the follow up with Dr. Tlucek. I give the worth and atmosphere created by staff a two thumbs up.

SMILE is awesome. Get it if you can. So, I got SMILE, my partner got LASIK... what's the…read moredifference? For Lasik, they need to cut a large flap into your eye... then the laser does the cutting/removal, etc. In SMILE, a tiny slit is cut (no flap), then the doctor does the cutting/removal instead of the laser. My recovery time was much longer; it took a couple months until my vision was perfect, whereas they recovered almost instantly... However, I almost never need eye drops... and they needed them for several months. The results are similar otherwise. How's my vision? 20/15... I could read a few of the 20/10 characters... but it took a bit of squinting. It feels weird to have functioning eyes. The process: You have some meetings, they check your eyes, and walk you through the procedures. If you're the nervous type, this may help you. This was maybe tmi for someone like me, since I prefer to trust the experts/doctors... that is, after doing hours of research and settling on SMILE and Dr. Malihi. However, tmi is better that no info, and many will find comfort in the "behind-the-scenes" tour. The actual surgery takes about 20 minutes... and it's uncomfortable, I mean it's your damn eyes... So, I just tried to relax and think about how this will all be over in no time- and it was. They do offer a chill pill of some sort, but I didn't take it... kinda wanted to feel it all... and it wasn't bad. You do feel a bit of scraping... because there is scraping. Again, worth it. They talk you through the whole thing... tell you when your vision is about to go cloudy, etc. There were people updating me on everything that was happening and there wasn't any mystery or reason to worry. The next day, my vision was kinda there... but after a few hours it got blurry... My partner had almost perfect vision after a day... but I was about 20/40 at best. I ended up working on tons of music, since staring a computer screen was doable but difficult. I traveled a couple weeks later, and my vision was still really blurry... SMILE does take longer to heal... but it's really worth it. After a couple of months, my vision is so good it's ridiculous. Just get it.

This was one of the worst experiences of my life! I…read moreresearched doctors for cataract surgery and went with who I thought was the best. Everyone told me it was painless and easy. The experience alone was so traumatic. The day of surgery, I was shuffled through the process like I was in an assembly line. My doctor came in to do last measurements on my eye. He was so rough and in a hurry. The person who prepped me could not get the IV in, so I didn't receive the sedation medication until moments before being wheeled into the surgery, wide awake. I was terrified at that point. The doctor came in and started the process. I was visibly shaking, and he told me to be still. He strapped my head down and kept going. I kept pleading with them to stop. Finally, the anesthesiologist said I was not sedated at all, so they pushed the meds in fast. It felt like my arm was on fire. After the surgery, I was not happy with the procedure or the results. Later, the doctor said that I should have told him to go to the next person, like I would have known that or known his schedule. Ridiculous! I have not been able to see out of my right eye since. It blurs in and out, and I cannot read at all with it. I wish I hadn't done it. I keep waiting for it to "adapt" as he says it will eventually. The doctor's only response to all of this is that my eye is no healthy, making it my fault. I have been to three ophthalmologists who all say it's fine, except for the lens is not right. I have tried to correct it with glasses, but it hasn't worked. Not only that, but I am on my second pair of lenses. Please beware when choosing a doctor for this procedure. I have since read all the horror stories that have come from mishandled procedures like mine. I only wish there was a way to go back and not do it.

TLDR: Got an eye infection from standard eye exam here and no guidance from this office/doctor…read more A couple of years ago I had an issue with this office taking over 2 months to get my contact lens order fulfilled with no proactive updates, but I let it slide because I really liked the optometrist and thought my prescription was more accurate than I've gotten at other places. That said, after my appointment this month I will never return. The day following my standard eye exam, my left eye was still extremely sensitive to light and bloodshot. I gave it a day and with no improvement, called the customer service line. She said she was sending my message to triage and to expect a call from the doctor. Well, after 2 more BUSINESS days the call never came... My eye was getting worse and puffy so I had to do an urgent care appointment to get prescribed medicated eye drops, they told me it was clearly infected and I likely got it from my appointment. After my urgent care appointment, I called back Vancouver Eye Care to let them know I got an infection from my appointment and never got a call from the doctor. The person on the line was apologetic, but I never heard anything else. Mistakes happen and according to urgent care, conjunctivitis is going around, so don't know that they lack proper hygiene practices, but the lack of concern over their patients' health after leaving the office is a huge red flag.

Our dentist is in the same building as this location for Vancouver Eye Care so I looked them up on line and scheduled an eye exam. My optometrist was Dr. Sayge Heintzelman, O.D. and both she, and the assistant that helped with my exam were great. I was surprised that the assistant did the bulk of the exam, as I've always gone to smaller eye clinics in the past where the doctor did everything, but as I said, they both were great. It had been several years since my last exam and I knew I would need new prescription lenses so after the exam I waited for 15 minutes until the lady who was assisting folks pick out glasses and get them measured was done with another patient. I wish I remembered her name, as she was very helpful in selecting frames that complemented my face. It was also my first time getting progressive lenses and she did an excellent job of explaining how those work and what to expect. Just under 2 weeks later my new glasses were in and I did have to wait quite a while in the waiting area to pick them up. The staff that assists with pick-ups and adjustments for new frames was getting trained on some new equipment and rather than pause the training I waited 20 minutes to get my glasses. Not a huge deal, but since they knew I was waiting it would have been better for them to pause their training for a few minutes to assist me. But I'm sure that was just a one-off oopsie and I will definitely come back for my future eye exams as everything else went smoothly and was great service.

Called the office and a very new receptionist told me it was normal - I did not at all agree and firmly told her to talk to a doctor or assistant. Someone more knowledgeable was quickly put on the phone and she got me into an appointment later in the day as the doctors were on a surgery day. While my wait at the office was long that day - which was fine as I was pushed into an already busy schedule, my eye was dilated and seen by Dr. Crews. After examination I went home knowing that a) my call was validated and b) that while there was a bit of an issue, my retina was still fine but that didn't mean a problem couldn't appear. Three days later I had a worser episode with the eye very late in the afternoon but knew I had an appointment already scheduled for the morning with Dr. Crews. Well we switched the purpose of the appt when I arrived and the doctor decided there was enough issue going on that he got on the phone with a retina specialist to get me fit into their schedule and they sent me right over. Big props to Dr. Crews for seeing me when needed and explaining what he believed was happening (he was correct about it) and then getting on the phone with the retina specialist to fit me right into their busy day. Thank you to the team, but train those new receptionists a wee bit better. And if you are reading this in choosing a doctor for lasik/cataracts, I continue to highly recommend Dr. Crews and overall all the great & kind staff in his office.
