I just had my Light Adjustable Lens replacement done in one eye. However, my journey did not begin here. Three years ago, I had RLE done on my non-dominant eye with the goal of losing the use of readers and to clear up slight fogginess from a cataracts. Within a day of RLE I gathered up all my readers and tossed them in the junk drawer, I have never looked back. After a video consultation with Dr. Kopstein where he explained the procedure in detail and then discussed what conditions made me a candidate despite my younger age for the procedure. Dr. Kopstein performed my surgery less than a week later, and like I said, I have never looked back.
After three years of great closeup vision my distant vision and vision in general started getting foggy and I started losing the ability to see colors with low contrast. My ophthalmologist informed me that my cataracts in my dominant eye is progressing quickly, I asked her to share my results with K2 Vision.
To say I was worried and scared of losing my vision would be an extreme understatement! I am a technology director and poor vision could be career ending for me. Within a week I was meeting with Melanie Ostenson, the director of surgical services for some tests. Mel was very knowledgeable and caring, she quickly put my mind at ease and assured me that all was going to be okay. After getting 'talked off the ledge' by Mel, I met with Dr. Tian to discuss options.
I was expecting to meet with Dr. Kopstein again since he did my first RLE surgery, so when Dr. Tian introduced himself, I was taken slightly off guard. After my consultation with Dr. Tian I knew I was in good hands. Dr. Tian suggested to me that we do a Light Adjustable Lens rather than the RLE, this would give me back my mid to distance sight and would pair exceptionally well with my current RLE lens that already gives me great reading vision. He carefully explained the risks and benefits of the Light Adjustable Lens all the while being paTiant with me as I interrupted with clarifying questions. It was nice to have just a 'conversation' and not a sales pitch. Dr. Tian was easy to talk to and let me have the time needed to come to my own decision whether to have the surgery or not. Ultimately, I chose to move forward with the Light Adjustable Lens.
Mel and Dr. Tian asked me when I would like the surgery, I suggested as soon as possible. It just happened to be surgery day the very next day or I could wait a week. I decided the next day was my best option. I went from worried and scared to comfortable and assured, there was no reason to wait.
The surgery the next day was quick and painless. Mel was with me every step of the way right up to walking into the OR and waiting for me when I walked out. She was helpful and very clear in explaining my recovery and the responsibilities on my end to ensure that my recovery was successful and quick. Dr. Tian was amazing during the surgery, he was explaining each step of the way, and that really put me at ease. There was ZERO pain, there weren't any uncomfortable moments either. My RLE surgery had a few 'that didn't feel to good' moments, nothing painful, but a little uncomfortable. I think my experience speaks volumes to the skill and experience level of Dr. Tian.
Currently I am 4 days post-surgery, I can see close, medium and distances as clear as can be! I really didn't realize how foggy my vision really was until after the surgery, Wow! I am so happy with the results. The day after the surgery I got a very pleasant call from Dr. Tian following up on my surgery, it was unexpected and very pleasant. Later the same day I got an email from Mel checking in on me as well, again, unexpected, and pleasant.
Mel and Dr. Tian really and truly are a dream team! read more
