Recently, I had the misfortune of requiring a data recovery service. One of my clients had a server crash from a drive problem. This server provides critical online functions to their business and without it, required 3-4 extra staff just to operate. I had never suffered a hard drive failure before, but I accidentally knocked over my external drive that contained a backup of all my company records. It fell about 3 feet to the floor, and immediately started making a buzzing sound. I couldn't believe my eyes. How could I have been so stupid? I lost everything. I had a wonderful experience with ReStoring Data. I had an old MacBook Pro that had been collecting dust for about 6 years after it suddenly died on me. I was afraid to hear that all the pictures and documents on there were completely lost and there was nothing that could be done so I decided the best thing to was nothing lol. One day, I get a BSOD on my computer and I discovered my hard drive was not working properly. I had used RD once before for a customer of mine and they got back most of the data. So I thought I'd use them for myself this time. In a snow storm, I rushed to get the drive out on Friday through their affiliated UPS store but found out later that UPS does not ship out products received after 4:30pm. Note to self.... Tuesday, I get an email saying that it's going to cost $1,275 for standard service and will take eight business days. Ten days later, "...unfortunately we were unable to recover your data. "..."there is a deep scratch on both platters and no data is recoverable." At the time, I was not happy with the terse response. However, on April 28th, I received a follow up call from Monty Peeks (Sales Director at ReStoring Data Inc.) who explained to me, in detail , the amount of time, effort and real cost it took to try and recover the data from my drive. Three weeks ago, one of our largest customers had a cascading hard drive failure on their RAID array. As we were not local to Vancouver, we scoured Yelp for the best data restoration company in the city and found ReStoring Data. Ilana and her team arranged for a courier to pick up our failed drives from the facility and spent the next week working with us to try to recover every last possible bit of restorable data from the various partitions. Her team worked 24 hour shifts until our initial restoration was complete, and they were in constant contact with our systems administrators during the entire process. I have never seen such dedication to one's craft and such incredible customer service. The level of communication was such that by the end of the process, one of our noc technicians thought that ReStoring Data were part of our team. I have nothing but praises to the Restoring Data team. They were so wonderful in the way they relaxed me after panicking over my lost data, and in the way they handled the whole recovery process. My case manager was very accessible and always very patient and nice. The technicians were so professional and polite, helping me carry my computer up and down the stairs. After my hard drive crashed I took it to a local computer retailer for repairs and was told it was damaged beyond repair, and that the data was not recoverable. I had five years worth of family photos on the hard drive and decided to get a second opinion, even though they told me I was wasting my time and offered to recycle the damaged hard drive for me. A couple of days ago I had a hard drive fail on an XPS 13. Situation much worse when I realized my backup external drive was damaged: files unreadable. UBC Arts IT suggested ReStoring Data and I'm glad they did. Great experience. We tried in the Dominican Republic, we tried in DC, we tried in New York, and we tried in Montreal, but nobody seemed to be able to help us recover our files from our 2 destroyed hard drives (at least not for anything affordable for anything but a multinational corporation.) They were professional, communicative, and best of all successful in recovering all of 78Gb of data stored on a back up hard drive. My computer would not boot up properly. I took it to a computer service in Richmond B.C. After several weeks I was told that the unit could not be repaired and no data could be recovered. I then went to ReStoring Data on Beatty Street in Vancouver. Within a day I was informed that likely all the data could be recovered - and then it was. I had this corrupt hard drive sitting around for over 10 years and finally decided to see i could recover the files, especially the baby photos of my son. I, foolishly, did not make backup copies of these files. The Dynex external enclosure fried the HD. I did not realize it was a problem with the enlosure until I installed a second HD, it fried that too! Stay away from those crappy Dynex products!
