My doctor recommended meeting Vanessa for the possibility of camouflage permanent restoration work for scarring that was discolored on my face and neck. I was skeptical but truly hopeful. I traveled 2 1/2 hours for my first meeting with her for consultation. I immediately felt comfortable, welcoming and confident that this would work for me. I waited two years before I went back. She remembered me! She walked me through the entire procedure. She shared her journey and experience with restoration permanent makeup with me. At this point I truly felt like I wanted to be her friend. When the first session was complete, I looked in the mirror and cried. I couldn't believe it. At this time I thought that I may never have to wear makeup again. She asked me to come back in 6 weeks to see results after healing. BTW, after two days, you couldn't tell anything was done to my face. After six weeks I contemplated about going back, but I did. And boy was I glad I did because after a touch up, you really couldn't tell any scarring was there before. coverage. She is highly recommended by many doctors in the San Diego area. It was worth the drive and I am so grateful to Vanessa and her staff for taking care of me. It was life changing and I will always be appreciative of her professionalism, kindness, dedication, expertise and passion for her extraordinary work. If you are interested, it's worth the consultation. read more

Life-changing results and a TRULY caring team! I honestly can't say enough good things about Restorative Permanent Makeup (RPM). My experience with them over the years has been incredible. I'm writing this review as an update because I am forever grateful to Vanessa and her team of experts. Three years ago, I originally went in for scar camouflage for some surgical scars I had that made me very self-conscious because they were on my face & neck. Having them "camouflaged" changed my whole outlook! It made me back into the sociable person I was before! What's also great about Vanessa & their staff is they are all super-positive people & it flows over into everything they do. They all get very excited to see the amazing results their clients get! It's a very uplifting experience every time. If anyone is dealing with scars and doesn't realize there are options, I hope this encourages you to look into it! Vanessa, the owner, did my treatment and her skill and artistry are amazing. What stood out just as much was how kind and compassionate she was throughout the process. Vanessa took the time to explain everything and made sure I felt comfortable and informed every step of the way. Before coming to RPM, I didn't even know scar camouflage for surgical scars was possible! I'm SO grateful to a friend who found Vanessa for me! The results have made such a difference -- she truly helped me feel like myself again. I went for one full session & 3 touchups to get it perfect, but it's PERFECT! She uses a very conservative approach which I appreciated. What she does is truly an art & you never want to rush an artist! After seeing how wonderful my results were, I also had my permanent eyebrows done and lip blush, and I am so incredibly happy with both!! The results are so natural and beautifully done. And guess what else? I was tired of seeing my husband using "Just For Men" mustache color for his eyebrows & I gently suggested we could do something more permanent & MUCH more natural looking & he agreed to have Vanessa give him permanent brows! They look FANTASTIC! They aren't "perfect" like mine but men don't want or shouldn't have "perfect" IMO. No one would ever know! We are in our 60's so gray is the norm for Men's brows & Vanessa blended colors to make them look so natural! My husband is truly thankful for not having to mess with his brows anymore! Their office is beautiful and they make you feel comfortable the moment you walk in. The whole team at RPM is fantastic. Emily, who does the scheduling & answers questions, is always so friendly & helpful. And Kaylee, another very talented artist there, is incredibly warm as well. I live north of Temecula so it's a little drive but oh so worth it! And who doesn't want to spend the day in beautiful La Jolla! I always look forward to my "dates" there! If you're considering scar camouflage or permanent makeup, I highly recommend Restorative Permanent Makeup. What they do there is more than cosmetic -- it truly helps restore confidence and helps people feel like themselves again. Thank you Vanessa and the entire RPM team! read more

I've been a long-time client of the Owner Vanessa but was in La Jolla last minute visiting from the desert and wanted to have my eyebrows touched up. She is the only one I trust to put a tattoo on my face, lol. However, since she was not available, she suggested Kaylee. I COULD NOT be happier! She did such a gorgeous job and was so sweet. She even reshaped my brow in a way I was not expecting and it is GORGE! Thank you, thank you. I was a nervous Nelly but have learned to trust Vanessa's recommendations and glad I did! Now I have 2 rockstars that I can trust when wanting service. Next up - lip blush! =) read more

I am really pleased with the results of my lips tinting. Vanessa has so much experience and artistic ability!! She is compassionate and truly wants me to be happy :-)) I had the lip local anesthetic so I felt very little. I'm in my late sixties and feel like the added lip color helps me appear more youthful. I have very little postoperative discomfort, just a little dryness so I applied the vitamin gel you gave me, regularly. Thank you so much, Vanessa and your Team! Kathleen read more

Vanessa did my brows January 2022. I'm aging and have lost some brows. I was bored with penciling them. My friend in the desert recommended her and I was stoked that she did. I had a scar from a surgery that looked terrible. I went to a dermatologist for years and I didn't see a change. Finally, I decided to try to camouflage it and decided to google "scar camouflage". I went to the first place that came up on the internet and it was a waste of money and time. After going there twice and no change to scar, I googled the same subject. I thankfully found Restorative Permanent Makeup. I called and Vanessa was very informative. She did a great job the first time. My scar was not visible after years of trying to get rid of it. She handpicked the skin color (mixed colors) and did an amazing job. If you have visible scars that you would like to get rid of, this is the perfect place. Highly recommend it. read more

What a great experience I had with Vanessa. I have been wanting to get my eye brows tattooed but was afraid of the outcome as other friends went other places to get them done and one did not have a good result too dark and the other girl when thru a hard time with the healing process. Over the months I had talked to Vanessa and had the opportunity to get to know her. I loved her brows. They looked natural and just beautiful. After many years of struggle to paint my own brows every morning I realized I could no longer do it to my liking. I spent more time wiping and reapplying with a powder way too dark for my skin tone. On my 72nd birthday I saw Vanessa and started to talk to her and decided to gift myself brows. We had a consultation. I had 1 brow way higher than the next so with her being an artist that she is she was able to even them out a bit so they were not so out of alignment. She's amazing with pigmentation and chose the perfect color to match my hair color and skin tone. The next week I had it done and it was so easy. The after care was easy as well. Today I went in for a follow up and Vanessa touched up a couple of little areas I absolutely love the end result. I would never go anywhere else. Her office is easy to get too. It's has s beautiful and calming sense when you walk in. She has a gentle touch when she did my procedure. I highly recommend her for your permanent make up needs or corrections to treatment that one has done elsewhere. She's an amazing teacher as well. What can I say about Vanessa... SHES AMAZING read more

Vanessa is a true artist and you are in great hands with her. She did an amazing job with my lip blushing and it's so nice to not have to wear lipstick. I highly recommend her and have already told several friends who are planning to get their lips done too. I also had a BA/BL which left me with a loss of color. Vanessa also restored the color with a blushing technique and it was completely transformative. The surgery was almost $13k but looked strange due to the lack of pigment but Vanessa saved the day and I am restored. Thank you , Vanessa! You are amazing and I will be back soon to have old permanent liner removed and then have you re-do my eyes. read more

I have had permanent eye liner since 2011. First time in Virginia, subsequent times Agoura Hills, CA. There was a need for touch up every few years. Last Friday 10/20/23 I went to Vanessa Dougherty in La Jolla, CA. She is truly an artist with exceptional attention to details. Her office reflects the importance of an extremely clean environment. Her technique is one of an experienced professional. She helps to minimize the pain with a medical grade numbing product and made sure I was comfortable during the process. She critiques her work along the way, accepts input and wants to give the desired outcome. It is now Monday and I can already see how fabulous this will be. Vanessa did an excellent job. I recommend her highly! read more

A little over 15 years ago, I made a bad choice in selecting a permanent make-up artist. My eyebrows need to be a medium blonde, and I showed the person what color I wanted and she said she could do it - no problem. In a week-and-a-half when the crust peeled off, I was shocked to find that she had used heavy black ink. Even worse than that, the two brows were not even close to symmetrical. I thought they would fade over a couple of years, but it turned out that the ink had been put in so thick and deep that it did not fade. After several years with no further fading, I went through a painful series of laser tattoo removal treatments with the result that the black finally widened and evolved into an ugly gray - although, at least, it was quite a bit lighter - but it was quite a mess. After interviewing several permanent make-up artists, I got my eyebrows tattooed again with a totally inadequate result that came out pink and was drowned by the gray. Fortunately, that one faded withing a matter of months without any further laser removal treatments. With the help of a referral from a well-known plastic surgeon's office, I was given Vanessa's name. Three weeks ago, I showed Vanessa the big problem that I had. She was confident that she would be able to correct it, and give me the look that I wanted. In one treatment, she gave me beautiful, symmetrical medium blonde brows, and she neutralized the surrounding grey areas so that my natural skin tone is restored. I am absolutely convinced that Vanessa is in a class by herself as both an artist and as a technical expert working with tattooing pigments to get just the right color, taking into account skin tones and, in my case, even bad leftover pigment coloration. I would unequivocally recommend her to anyone needing any kind of cosmetic skin tattooing. Deanna P. Walnut Creek, CA read more
