We have had such a great experience here! We started as part time and moved to full time- our kiddo loves it. I think the adjustment was harder for me than it was for him! He eats well, goes outside, does art, socializes, and is well loved. They have lots of community events and the parent hours can feel daunting but honestly....that's what build a community and a sense of belonging. RCC is a wonderful quality school. However, it is overpriced and has ridiculous "parent hour" requirements. As a working parents we struggle with time as it is. Being required to spend 20 -25 hours supporting RCC when my school age child only spends an hour after school is ridiculous. School are, after school families have the same requirements as full time preschool kids. That is nuts! When you don't spend the hours they send a bill at the end of the year at around $50/hr. I like the people, but the cost and parent hour requirements are out of line. I feel like we were trapped. Hopefully they will adjust parent hours to type of program in the near future. Be careful. You will spend much more money or time here than you expect. read more

We enrolled our 3 year old for full day preschool and 6 year old for summer camp. This was our 3 year old's first experience in a group setting, as he had a nanny up until then. The teachers have been very willing to try to help him feel more comfortable and "come out of his shell." He now looks forward to school. We've had our kids in the after school program at RCC ever since they started at elementary school. The program is excellent and most of the time the kids are begging us to stay when we arrive to pick them up after work. I enrolled my daughter at 18 months at the Reston Children's Center (https://www.restonchildren.org). She has really thrived in the six months since she has been there. She knows her colors and has started counting and singing her ABCs. She is always doing arts and crafts, reading new books, playing with new toys, and spending time outdoors with her teachers and peers when the weather permits. The teachers at RCC are nurturing and are obviously there because they love working with the toddlers. RCC has a higher teacher-to-child ratio than the other for-profit child care centers I toured. Another thing that sets RCC apart is that meals are included with the tuition, and they have an onsite kitchen. I previously had to send lunches and milk to day care. Now I can focus on my work and know that my daughter is having a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and two snacks a day before I pick her up. read more

The staff and teachers are friendly, supportive, and willing to do whatever it takes to support your child. The food is included in tuition (!!) and is delicious! Our kids have been going to Reston Children's Center for after school care and summer camp since kindergarten and we couldn't be happier with our choice. The teachers are always friendly and supportive and the kids are always happy and tired at the end of the day. There is a great outdoor area for the kids to get their energy out but also lots of indoor activities to keep them engaged. RCC also runs an amazing summer camp chock full of really fun field trips (frankly I'm a little jealous) and unlike a lot of other summer camp options, RCC is open til 6:30 so parents can get in a full day of work even during the summer. Words cannot express our gratitude we have for finding this gem in Reston! Reston Children's Center has been an absolute blessing to our family! We have been here since our oldest who is 3 years old was 8 months old (thanks to COVID), our youngest started at 3 months. Our children have grown not just physically but mentally and emotionally thanks to the wonderful care they receive day in and day out by the amazing teachers and staff. Just the other day our 3 year old came home and rattled off all the planets and told us that we live on earth and Saturn has rings, several months ago it was the months and days of the week. Each morning when we drop them off we're confident in knowing they're in amazing care, going to be so well fed (the onsite kitchen staff is bar none!), and are going to learn astounding things. The teachers and staff are a melting pot of cultures from around the world, they share their cultures and celebrations with the children to help open their eyes to the world around them and not just in their own backyard. RCC has very low turn over rate with some of the staff being there well over 30 years. You are required to do parent hours since this is a parent owned co-op, but there are plenty of opportunities to get these completed and you get to make new friends along the way. We're eternally grateful that our paths crossed with RCC, as there is no place we'd rather have our children go during these foundational years. RCC offers a balanced learning approach, which my son loved from preschool to after school age and summer camp. They have a before and after school bus transport to local Reston elementary schools, which is so helpful when your child transitions to elementary school, as they have consistency with friends and teachers. My 6-month-old started at Reston Children's Center (https://www.restonchildren.org) last month and we have all been loving RCC so far. The outdoor areas are amazing - each age group has their own class playground with age-appropriate outdoor activities. The staff is very helpful, and friendly. And I love that I can call my child's room directly if I have any questions or concerns. Most of the teachers seem to have 10+ years experience and there's extremely low turnover of the teaching staff at RCC, which gives me great peace of mind throughout the day. Another nice thing about RCC is the community-feel. Unfortunately, we started at RCC during COVID, but I look forward to the center being more open to parents soon. read more

We love RCC! I went to RCC 30+ years ago, and my parents still talk about how great it was then. When we moved back to this area, we immediately got on the waitlist and are glad we did. Our son started attending at around 18 months and our newborn will be joining him in the fall. The tenure of the teachers is truly unmatched, and we've learned that speaks volumes about a daycare center. There ratio of teachers to children is always above what is required by the state and the center has long hours which helps with work schedules. Food is provided and cooked in house, the kids are always doing science, art, pretend play + lots of outside time - our son truly amazes us with all he has learned. I enrolled my 3 month old daughter into the infant class and switched daycares 3 months later. I originally decided to go with RCC because of their infant sleeping accommodations. It was one of the only daycare centers I visited that didn't have the cribs lined up on the wall of the play room. However, my daughter was never put down to nap in the crib in fear of waking up the other babies. Since my daughter never took good naps she would always fall asleep when she had a bottle which then resulted in her not getting enough ounces during the day. After 3 months of picking up an exhausted, hungry baby I decided we had enough. I do feel bad about giving a bad review, but with the amount of money we were paying I would expect the workers to at least try to put a tired baby to sleep. You are also required to do 2 hours of volunteer service a month (usually cleaning RCC) or have to pay extra. If your house is as busy as mine finding 2 extra hours to clean someone else's places was nearly impossibly so we would always have to pay the extra fee. If I could do it all over again I would have picked a smaller in-home daycare where my daughter would have received more attention, especially when it came to naps in the crib. I have heard they have a good after school program, but we won't be going back to find out. read more

We love Reston Children's Center. It is a co-op which means as a parent you get to be more involved with your child's daycare experience than you would in some other settings. My children are happy to attend this daycare and especially love the outdoor time in the beautiful, spacious playground. Pre-COVID RCC also offered a relatively unique open-time where ages could mix (and we hope that aspect returns in the near future). The staff has a low turnover which I believe indicates they are experienced, dedicated, and are happy at RCC. Can't say enough good things! read more

We have been at RCC for over 5 years now and we've loved every minute of it. The teachers and staff are experts in their field as they prepare children for their school years and provide after school care. The Infant/Toddler program is in a seperate building where the wee ones get the care they need with lots of Individual attention; the teachers get down on the floor and play with the babies. And unlike other child care centers I visited, the babies do NOT sit in swings (there aren't any swings at RCC). The preschool program teaches the kids and encourages them to explore their curiosities. They have a huge library, do all kinds of different activities that give them a strong sense of community and they go on field trips regularly. They also prepare the kids well for school by teaching them to write their letters and numbers. They recently upgraded the playground with lots of new equipment. And the schoolage program and summer camp are a complete blast ... In a structured environment. During the summer, the kids are all over town visiting fun places and going to the pool several times a week. What truly sets RCC apart from the rest is it's amazingly long teacher tenure (over 15 years, I believe); lots of parent involvement, thanks to it being a parent owned cooperative, and that it's one of the few programs in the area with NAEYC accreditation. The staff are so good with the kids; they're always exploring new things and the kitchen staff are amazing. I'd give them 6 stars if I could. read more

This is so far the best Early Childhood Development program I have had the pleasure of experiencing. The teachers are incredibly well-educated, experienced and dedicated to their job. The open environment and multi-age "open times" offers a very diverse social environment for children. Every child is able to find a friend to play with at the different centers. The management of this center is top-notch. You can tell they care for their teachers just as much as they care for the children at their center. This is a center that invests in retaining a high-quality environment and staff. Since relocating to Austin, TX in 2012 I have not witnessed an equally comparable center. read more

We have been very happy at RCC with the infant and toddler program and highly recommend it. The staff and teachers are very professional and caring. The activities and curriculum foster development and learning. We can't believe how much our toddler learns and we can tell he enjoys the classroom environment. They have age appropriate playgrounds for each age group and prioritize outdoor time, which was a major plus for us since our child is at daycare 5 days a week for full days. A true community. Kids are LOVED here. We're so sad to be leaving the area. For the past year and a half, our son has been so loved at Reston Children's Center. After a rough experience at a local Kinder Care, we were so relieved to come to RCC. PROS: The teachers and leadership have been at the center FOREVER and therefore the turnover is super low. Even the teachers who come in for seasonal work or substitutes mostly seem to be kiddos who used to go to RCC and have come back from college. They are NAEYC accredited and take it very seriously as well as other professional development for their teachers. The kids are encouraged to explore and try things. Their curriculum is engaging and fun for kids and the teachers do a great job bringing parents into the fold. In Ms. Fatiha's (4 year olds) class, our son has taken a field-trip every month. During the summer in Ms. Rasha and Ms. Heather's class (3 year olds), they also took weekly walking and bus field-trips as well. The food at the center is made at the center and the ladies in the kitchen are so caring and kind. They're constantly upgrading the facilities which makes it a joy-filled place that kids spend much of their days. Truly a great experience. CONS (or rather things to note that may feel a little annoying): While we loved that it was a parent co-op which means that we as parents can be involved, you have to be involved. You're required to do parent hours which means that you have two hours you have to fulfill (which can be fun and there are lots of opportunities). There are many fundraisers on top of the high-ish tuition (the tuition arguably is well worth it, but notably high). Overall, if you can get in, consider yourself lucky. The center will make your family feel part of a community and you might find life long friends here! read more
