We called that morning and spoke to Marisol who was very sympathetic, informative, and respectful. She gave us an appointment right away. We drove to them in Secaucus from Brooklyn and when we arrived Marisol met us at the door. She and Mariah were very polite, understanding, and accommodating. They took our Oreo and placed her on a bed surrounded by flowers and gave us some time alone to say our goodbyes. Marisol then waked us through the cremation process and showed us where it would be done and guaranteed us that it would only be Oreo's ashes that we would be receiving. We were given the opportunity to be present for Oreo's cremation. Ultimately Oreo's ashes were returned to us in less than 2 hours and were were able to bring her back home with us same day. They made this sad morning easier to get through. Along with Oreo's ashes we received a beautiful wooden box to keep her in with an engraved brass pate attached, a certificate allowing us to travel with her ashes, a wooden beaded bracelet, her paw print in clay with 2 gems attached, a stand for her paw print, a rose that lights up, and a notebook with the Rainbow Bridge poem on the cover. I was left in the room with the unknown deceased dog until I went outside to collect myself. I was then told they were on the phone with the vet to figure out where Eli is. They finally said Eli was there but due to human error Eli was already cremated. I was supposed to see my best friend for the last time today, Instead I was traumatized for life and will never know who I actually brought home. He had recently stopped taking his heart medication after his cardiologist determined that his heart condition had resolved. Once again, the staff quickly took him back and stabilized him. Then began the wait. BluePearl appears to triage patients based on urgency, and they were not noticeably but apparently busy that day. As a result, Ruben spent much of the day in an oxygenated cage, from about 9:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Thankfully, I did not have to stay there the entire time. In the end, the diagnosis was somewhat different from what we initially expected. Ruben does not have early congestive heart failure, as was suggested by the remote radiologist's preliminary interpretation. However, the team did take seriously the possibility of asthma, which had been raised by my cardiologist over the phone. I'm reducing my rating by half a star, bringing it to 4.5 stars. Overall, I believe Ruben received excellent care. The veterinarian listened carefully to my concerns about sedation and treated him thoughtfully. My main concern is staffing. It appeared that there was only one very busy veterinarian on duty, and she was unable to interpret the X-rays herself. As a result, several hours passed before the imaging could be completed, and then additional time was needed to obtain a reading from an off-site radiologist. I understand that Ruben was stable and that other patients may have required more urgent attention. Still, from my perspective, increased staffing might have allowed him to be evaluated sooner. Ruben is a good patient, but he does not enjoy veterinary visits, and spending nearly the entire day there was stressful for both of us. That said, BluePearl remains my first choice for emergency veterinary care. The staff are compassionate, and I continue to trust them when Ruben needs urgent treatment.

No words can capture how painful and traumatic it was to witness. St. James lived such a beautiful, joyful life, and he deserved comfort and dignity at the end -- not this. I also love that end-to-end services are offered, which reinforces the thought and care they put into their practice. The plaster paw print, fur clippings in the glass vial, the sympathy card with forget-me-not seeds, and also the donation in Mochi's name to PAWS NY are all so treasured, and the aquamation service (via Compassionate Care Pet Aquamation) was also top notch. I have considered their grief counseling services as well but am still working through a lot of life adjustments without Mochi.
