This one is sadly an epic NO! I have visited many but many restaurants on the island from east to west and north to south and sadly this restaurant failed in all aspects. Not enough staff to carefully attend clients, dishes were all over cooked. Ordered medium cooked churrasco and it was overly over cooked, requested salmon to be cooked medium, as well, and it was served overly cooked. We are in Ponce which is as south of Puerto Rico as you can get. The Mediterranean is beautiful and warm. Tablas is in the center of town. Parking is impossible so be prepared to walk. Also the roads are extremely narrow. Take it slow. Tablas had tables situated in a large room. The place has a cozy feel and the service is friendly. I believe they speak very little English. But that's not a problem. Plus the place is extremely clean. I ordered the stuffed avocado with octopus. And again must have my Puerto Rican rice and beans. Sofrito is the secret. In fact they even sell their own sofrito here. I really wanted to give a good review but right now we have waited over 25 minutes and counting. We have a flight to catch in 20 minutes and must drive 2 hours in order to make it. Needless to say the service is extremely slow. So if you have time to wait then you should try Tablas. The food presentation was pretty. And I don't think I've ever tan avocado that big. The only downside besides the wait was that the octopus was a bit tough. Not some of it but all of it. Medium sized restaurant with friendly server. Dark inside and cool relief from the heat. I ordered the kan kan bites with rice and beans. Our food took quite a long time. Almost 1/2 hour. We had to rush to eat and take most of mine to go. The meat was extremely salty and at least 1/2 fat. I believe that the fat is part of the dish but this was more fat than meat. If I ordered kan kan again I would get the whole slice rather than the bites bc you would have more meat with the fat. Food here is very pricey likely bc it is a tourist area. Next time I would try to find something off the beaten path in Ponce. read more

We stopped for drinks and apps. It was great! The bartender was able to make both delightful alcoholic and non- alcoholic drinks which is imo the true test of a bartender. Food was delicious! Angelica was attentive just the right amount. Food was delivered at the perfect time. The chicken wings on the sample platter was crispy n crunchy but it needed the sauce to make it flavorful. The little potato balls were great and also the Alcapurrias even though they did not look like in the photo from the menu. We love our mofongo dinners the shrimp was flavorful and well seasoned. 4/21/25 My husband and I were really looking forward to dining at this restaurant--but that turned out to be a big mistake. From the moment we walked in, we were met with unwelcoming and unfriendly energy. The hostess was sweeping and visibly shook her head at us as we entered, which was incredibly off-putting. We were barely seated when the waitress came over. I politely told her we needed a moment to settle in, and not even two minutes later, she returned to inform us that the kitchen was closing--at 8:40 PM, despite the restaurant's listed hours stating they close at 10 PM. It felt rushed and dismissive, like they couldn't wait to get rid of us. Needless to say, we left without ordering and with a very sour taste in our mouths--not from the food, but from the service. We will never return, and I will make sure to let others know this place is not worth their time or money. A restaurant experience should feel welcoming and hospitable--this was the exact opposite. Our first day in PR and our friends brought us here to dine. What a great choice. The waitress was awesome, she knew the menu in and out. For my meal I had the Chuleta Can Can which happens to be my favorite dish. I had it with tostones. The chop was a large size which was cooked perfectly. The Chicharrón unfortunately was not as crispy as I would like but it was still good. My girlfriend had the Mofongo with some cold sauce which she really enjoyed. We are from out of town and the owner himself came to our table to help us understand the menu and even his son came over to help. We started with the Ceviche de Parcha and it was some of the best ceviche I've ever had and came with plantain chips that were still warm. It was amazingly tender and flavorful. We ordered the Churrasco and I genuinely didn't know a skirt steak could be so tender and flavorful. It was masterfully made. We also ordered the Filete de Mero, a grouper fillet, and it was so tender you could barely pick it up with your fork. We ordered the mofongo yucca on the side. Our last dish was the Aguacates Rellenos with Carrucho. We had never heard of this dish but ordered it based on the owner's recommendation and we were not disappointed. The avocado was perfectly ripe and the true star of the show and the conch was well seasoned and prepared. Nothing but wonderful things to say about this place. Courteous service, nice green seating area, facing the city plaza and at the back of the red firefighter museum, I'm surprised this restaurant is not on Yelp! The house special el Tablero is a mountain of smashed plantain stuffed with shrimps, beef cubes, fish, tomato and onions, it's saucy and tasty. Great portion for two to share. Can't imagine I can finish it by myself as it also has waffle fries and steamed vegetables and it's beautifully presented on a wood block. Also tried the bar's pina colada, creamy and not strong in rum. Overall very happy with the meal and drinks but it takes a long time to wait for food to come out. read more

The chuleta can can was very good. The octopus in garlic sauce was ok- cold smallish portion. The house wine tasted like grape juice, while staff tried, they were very young, and even though the restaurant was empty, gathering around and talking to one another, seems a bit unprofessional owner or manager in site. this is a beautiful restaurant. Someone spent a lot of money building this place out. Unfortunately, the food and service don't match the ambience and atmosphere. I really hope they get it together. I would love to see them succeed, but for the money there is no attention to detail at this point in time I don't think I would return. This is not an inexpensive meal either the entrées are priced on the higher end , you do not get your money's worth. Again, would love to see a place like this succeeded in Ponce. We stopped here while visiting the 2st fire station in Puerto Rico which is downtown Ponce. The service was excellent. We had the meals pictured with this review. The restaurant has an upscale feel with normal prices. Come with a large appetite as the helpings are huge. The only negative was the tostones though large were hard. Also they do not except AMEX. We are used yo around 5 or 6 corn frittas as an appetizer, we got around 12 to 14. You can tell that the food was fresh and care was taken in preparation and visual display. This location is in a prime area and it looks sharp from the outside. Unfortunately, everything that glimmers ISN'T GOLD. A few issues upon our visit: - The service is PAINFULLY slow. - We asked for an appetizer to come out at the same time as the 1 pizza we ordered. Apparently that's a hard request. We had to wait for a consult before we got the yes. - Drinks, we had to place our orders twice... 20mins later drinks showed up minus my water. - Food came out cold - They took our plates ONE by ONE to reheat. It was just painful to watch this 'circus' of a place. - The manager was there taking payment after you were done eating. She asked my uncle about the experience. My uncle was upfront with her & added regardless of the service, food quality & delay we will pay and tip 20% (in reality she looked defensive even before he started giving his feedback). Best rice and beans I've ever had. Everybody go slap your mother because they've never don't it this well. When ordering the stuffed avocado we asked will it be one half or both halves. Saddened by the one half response we still ordered ........ it turned out to be the biggest avocado we'd seen in our lives. Freshest taste. The location is excellent as it is right off the main plaza in Ponce. The food was good. We had the stuffed avocado with grouper, wings, and the kids chicken tenders with fries. The timing was terrible. My wife and son finished their food 30 minutes before mine arrived at the table. The staff was polite and friendly, but there are only so many times you can say the food is almost ready before it seems disingenuous because the food has not arrived. I'm in Ponce, Puerto Rico on business. Everybody said Puerto Rico has great seafood. I've been a little disappointed with some of the spots my coworkers have been picking. I went with a guy in the spur of the moment to Calle Union and was pleasantly surprised. The mofongo was finally to my liking. Everything was great and the service was quick and spoke English to me and Spanish to my coworker. I appreciate the versatility and effort. It made me really comfortable and on my way out, a gentleman complimented my Orange County California T shirt. He has been to The OC and praised it like I'll forever be praising Tablas and their friendly (and beautiful) staff and Puerto Rico as a whole. My husband and I visited Ponce for the first time today. We were hungry and decided to look for a good place to eat. I am a yelper so I yelped a place nearby that had decent reviews. Per the yelp reviews, the restaurant rated poorly on wait time; I decided to give them a chance and boy do I regret it. Upon entering, we noticed a couple and a man working from a table, we were sure our wait time would be minimum...Not!!! Young man took our drink order, mojitos which were mediocre. The lunch ordered was chicken with tostones and I ordered the tostones relleno with chicken al ajijo. Basic lunch, nothing complicated. 40 minutes later, I see the staff more concerned with water in the men's bathroom than asking us if we wanted a refill OR providing an update on our food. We waited a couple of more minutes and I finally waived down the waiter and asked for our food to be packed to go. The waiter did not ask why we chose to pack up our food, just walked away to inform the kitchen. He walks back and asks my husband if he would like to pay the bill (food is not out yet). My husband walks to the front to pay, the person at the front was the same person working on a laptop and also the one barking orders at his staff to help in the mens bathroom. He does not ask my husband what happened, can I help, nothing!!! All he did was delete the 20% tip that popped up when my husbands card was swiped. My experience was negative. Poor customer service, poor communication and lack of enthusiasm from the manager or owner to keep a customer happy. Never again! Please do not visit this restaurant, save your money!! Give your money to an establishment that cares about their customers. read more
