We were in Maricao and we wanted to have lunch at a Puerto Rican food place and we had been told good things about the Casona de Artemio in Las Marías. The road is a little dangerous but we went there. The food was very good, service excellent (the girls who served us worked very hard). Very reasonable food prices (generally between $15 and $30 per dish) and drinks were affordable too. The only thing that surprised me (negatively) was the exorbitant price of what they call "crème brulé" and that was a Catalan cream (both are very similar, but the consistency of "crème brulé" is less solid than that of the Catalan cream, (I have lived in Paris and Barcelona, and I know the difference well). While the price for other desserts fluctuated between $4 and $5, the price of the crème brulé was $8.50. The cream was good but not extraordinary nor was the portion big (maybe 3 ounces) to justify that price (and the price wasn't explicit on the menu either).

This one is sadly an epic NO!…read more I have visited many but many restaurants on the island from east to west and north to south and sadly this restaurant failed in all aspects. Not enough staff to carefully attend clients, dishes were all over cooked. Ordered medium cooked churrasco and it was overly over cooked, requested salmon to be cooked medium, as well, and it was served overly cooked. Dishes were served one dish at a time with at least 15 minutes in between each. Ambiance was not that representative of Ponce or Puerto Rico

Also the roads are extremely narrow. Take it slow. Tablas had tables situated in a large room. The place has a cozy feel and the service is friendly. I believe they speak very little English. But that's not a problem. Plus the place is extremely clean. I ordered the stuffed avocado with octopus. And again must have my Puerto Rican rice and beans. Sofrito is the secret. In fact they even sell their own sofrito here. I really wanted to give a good review but right now we have waited over 25 minutes and counting. We have a flight to catch in 20 minutes and must drive 2 hours in order to make it. Needless to say the service is extremely slow. So if you have time to wait then you should try Tablas. The food presentation was pretty. And I don't think I've ever tan avocado that big. The only downside besides the wait was that the octopus was a bit tough. Not some of it but all of it. The other two places I've had octopus it was soft and tender.
