El Duende was pretty busy when we arrived the only table available was all the way in the back next to the bathrooms, we just took it since we were really hungry and tired after hiking all day and trying to find a place to eat in the thunderstorm. Service was kind of slow because we were seated in such an inauspicious location. Both ordered the 3 entree daily special where you can pick each course out of 5 choices. I think that I was successful in all of the items I picked and my SO was unsuccessful. After hiking around 20 km in the beautiful Ordesa valley i could have eaten about anything however I paced myself and set of on a culinary journey consisting of a risotto with langoustine, halibut with vegetables and a cheese platter. Oh, please do not miss out on the warm chocolate creation with ice cream for dessert, splendid! I could hardy believe that the set price of this feast was just above 20 euros including bread, water and wine. We opted for another wine than the one included in the set menu and we were so delighted with the food, drinks and service after our dinner. La Tasca is one of the better dining options in Luz but is certainly not a stellar address. The…read morespace is quite nice, with a front terrace, a big bar with occasional live bands, and a back dining area with a sky roof. The food is very heavy, mostly grilled meats, fondue, burgers, and composed plates with "Spanish" influence, like the assiette espagnole which consists of three fried eggs, French fries, cured ham and salad. Never saw anything like that in Spain, but I'm certainly no expert! There was a change in ownership a year or so ago and a British couple now runs the place. As a result, there's a chicken curry surprisingly on the menu which is decent but pricey for 15€. Ever since they took ownership of the place, the desserts, which were once homemade and rather lovely, are pretty bad now. Our half-frozen "tiramisu" was astonishingly inedible. Even though we left the entire cookie-like frozen chocolate crust intact no one inquired as to whether we enjoyed it.

The toasted fresh French bread was unreal, broth was onion and creatively flavored and not remotely salty as many FOS can be, topped off with a perfect local cheese. Ruined French Onion Soup for me until we return. Wife's Entrecote (steak) was served on a broiler heated stone, keep sizzling and cooking for 10 minutes after service. Served with a broiled tomato, peas and Shoshito type pepppers, absolute flavor perfection in local Huesca style. Unbelievably good. Fantastic bottle of Spanish red resulted in one of those meals that was just perfect. I had the chicken crochettes which were very good, had a middle eastern flavor, nice but get the soup and entrecote and you'll be thanking me later. Great environment, comfortable, casual and near a most beautiful national park for amazing hiking and views. Now, if everything above didn't sell you on this literally hidden gem, the Creme Brulee desert was the best we ever had. Crispy top with a ridiculously light, sinfully delicious without being to sugary custard. Game changer for the category. Loved Espot!!! Loved La Llupia!!!
