Oxacan taco.

MUST stop in your way to Monterey area from Santa Cruz / San Jose. Authentic Oaxaca , south Mexico, food. We stop twice, in our way in and back to Santa Cruz. Owners, are cooks, and they have Mexican hospitality, in their service. Don't skip the soups, caldo de res, beef soup, Menudo, Sat and Sunday. Menuso, fresh , soft, comforting , flavorful. 7 Mares, seafood soup, spicy level as you like. Big portions, hand made big tortillas. Try the cafe de olla, boiled coffee, Coffee beans from Oaxaca. And the quesillo, world famous , Oaxaca's Cheese. But if you want to have a real experience, have the MOLE. Made on house, authentic Oaxaca's MOLE. I licked the plate, the smell, the color, the flavor, I've never tasted it before here in CA. I can go on. Stop, eat, be happy. Clean. Restrooms available. Charming town, reminds you where your food comes from, and the hard workers that bring us the food our earth produces.

They don't serve chips and salsa. Instead they brought us tiny servings of sopa de fideo. Meh. I wish they had chips and salsa. They didn't have Chili Verde for lunch on Saturday at 1pm. Disappointed. Menu only in Spanish. But The guys working there today spoke English. No lunch specials, only dinner prices. As we were looking over the menu our servers told us they have lots of things that are not on the menu like burritos and tortas. Chicken enchiladas were excellent. Pretty spicy enchilada sauce. My Chili Relleno had a lot of cheese inside but they were greasy. My beans were cold. After they were warmed them up they were good as well as the rice. It was empty here for lunch on Saturday at 1pm. Not quite a 3 star yet-2 1/2.

El Padrino Restaurant - Shrimp Mole Nachos (10/10)

We were on our way home from the 17-Mile Drive and wanted to get dinner before our long drive back. I found Padrino Restaurant on Yelp, and we decided to give it a try. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted and seated. I loved that they provide the table with a pitcher of water, but I do wish it was a little larger. We ordered the kids' food while we looked over the menu. This restaurant is a little more expensive than most Mexican restaurants. A kids' quesadilla was $8 with no sides included. We ordered a side of rice and beans for the kids to share since they were $4 each. My oldest got two fried quesadillas, and my youngest got one regular quesadilla. They don't automatically bring out chips and salsa, but they do offer them. I actually don't mind that because it can feel wasteful to give them to every table when not everyone will eat them. I understand the choice. I ordered the Stuffed Chilaquiles with beef. I loved the flavors. They were definitely different from what I am used to, but still very delicious. The asada was seasoned really well, although don't expect a huge portion of meat. I would give this 4/5 stars. My husband ordered the Enchiladas Rojas with a side of rice and beans (for an extra charge). He did not like the sauce at all because it was more like a dark mole sauce than the red sauce he is used to. I traded plates with him, and I actually liked it. It had a darker flavor than what I am used to, but it was still delicious. I would give this 3/5 stars. My mother-in-law ordered the Green Enchiladas. They were very different--they were more like flautas covered in green sauce. Still good, just not what we expected. I would give them 3/5 stars. I am happy we got to try it, and the service was great. I am just not sure if I would come back again. That may simply be because we are so used to the flavors and style of food we grew up with.

After we sat down, it took nearly 30 minutes just for someone to take our drink and food .My cousin-in-law eventually had to wave someone down just so we could place an order. There was a server but he was more interested in the woman party than ours . The woman who eventually stepped in to help us was great and truly tried her best to accommodate us, and I really appreciated her efforts. However, this wasn't even her section. What was most disappointing was that neither a manager nor the server who was supposed to be taking care of our table ever came over to acknowledge the delay or apologize. For a birthday celebration that we were really looking forward to, the lack of service and acknowledgment put a damper on the experience. I completely understand that restaurants get busy, but a simple apology or communication would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, based on this experience, it did not live up to the reviews or expectations we had.

Wow! Absolutely mind blown by this Mexican cuisine restaurant. The menu is quite big but it's…read morefilled with dishes that you don't normally see in other Mexican restaurants. We got: 1. Octopus adobado 2. Chicken enchilada mole 3. Jericayas - Mexican flan for dessert They were so generous with the portion size. You get two huge octopus tentacle - juicy and seasoned to perfection! The creamy sauce that comes with the octopus pairs really well. The chicken enchilada mole usually is made with shredded chicken but the waitress was nice to substitute the inside to grilled chicken instead. The dish was tasty and packed with flavor. I made sure to clean every drop of the mole sauce. We weren't a big fan of the Jericayas, which our waitress described it as a mix of cream brûlée and flan. It was good but I don't think I would get it again. It's topped with strawberry and blueberry fruits. There were so many more dishes that I wanted to try here. I'll definitely be back soon if we're ever around the area. I highly recommend anyone to try this place. The ambiance is relaxed and there are plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. The staffs were all friendly and took the time to explain the menu.
