I heard great things about this new local Mexican restaurant. We decided to check them out. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch recently. Pre-Hispanic Mexican Cuisine is located in a nice area in downtown Morgan Hill. Parking is accessible along the streets, nearby parking garage and multiple parking lots. The former Mexican restaurant Chacho's use to occupy this space for a few years. The restaurant has simple sleek modern decor. There are plenty of tables inside for dining with a lively full bar present. The outdoor patio looks inviting and cozy. There is a bar in the middle with surrounding bar stools and plenty of patio dining tables as well. We ordered a spicy jalapeño margarita, mango margarita, the chicharron dumplings, queso fundido with chorizo, bread, and chips from the daily happy hour menu and 2 octopus and chorizo tacos and 1 fried shrimp taco from the regular menu. Everything was authentic and delicious. The chicharron dumplings were my favorite dish. It was both flavorful and sweet. The octopus and chorizo taco were unique and scrumptious. The texture of the octopus and crumbles of the chorizo was such a delightful combo. The fried shrimp in the taco was crispy and delectable. Our margaritas were refreshing and hit the spot. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Pre-Hispanic Mexican Cuisine. This restaurant definitely stands out among the many local Mexican restaurants in the area due to their unique flavors and authentic boldness of their dishes. The staff was accommodating. The daily happy hour was a great value. We will be back to try more dishes and drinks.

We have been wanting to try this place for a bit now and finally went there for dinner. We were seated right away. We did get there before the dinner crowd so that made it a bit easier to get a seat. There were several tables that had bigger parties. We started with appetizers - chips and salsa & Chicharron dumplings. The salsa was prepared at the table so you can tell them how hot you would like it. Then the chicharron dumplings were very yummy especially with the veggies and cream sauce on it. My hubs and I both got tacos because we were able to mix the different meats/no meat. All the tacos were very good and not so large so you got just enough to fill you up. We were pleasantly happy with the entire experience. You should try it too!

If you're looking for Mexican food that's rooted in traditional flavors and ingredients, then this might be the spot for you. Nestled right on E 3rd St, you'll find Pre-Hispanic Mx Cuisine serving up an array of Mexican dishes from tacos to mole and even chicharrón dumplings. This restaurant steers away from the fatty, salty, greasy Tex-mex and California style Mexican food we are used to and brings it back to tradition. We went on a Wednesday afternoon and sat at the bar. The inside is a very simple but nice setting. There is also a patio outside if you'd like to enjoy a little California sun. They attended us very quickly and made sure we were doing okay throughout our dinner. We ordered some tacos, cochinita pibil, pulpo enamorado, chicharrón dumplings, salsa tatemada, a margarita and cantaritos. All the food was delicious, complex yet balanced, and had that touch of Latin love. And you need to start off your dinner with the Salsa Tatemada, which is made table side for you. One of the freshest and best tasting restaurant salsas I've ever had. Oh and don't forget the drinks. Go with the cantarito or marg, both so delicious and taste exactly like something you'd find on the beachside in Mexico. So if you're in the mood for traditional Mexican food, good drinks, and an even better time. Then this might just be the spot for you.

Solid food and portion size, but the ambiance and lore seems a bit confused, so maybe set your expectations appropriately there Was very curious to try this place by the name. Upon receiving the brunch and lunch menus, I wasn't quite sure what constituted as 'pre-hispanic'. The brunch menu in particular seemed to lean towards trendy modern brunch items. The space itself also lends to the confusion. It's a modern warehouse style space, with a few pieces of 'traditional' Mexican inspired art.. but also with a big neon cursive text wall thats begging for IG pics. Not saying any of this is a problem, per se, but with a restaurant name this unique, I wish there was more pre-hispanic immersion The food itself was delicious. The plating was bold, bright, and energetic, and it made me really excited to dig in. The octopus and chorizo taco was so nicely balanced. Octopus was cooked well, although it could be a tad softer. The chorizo added a nice flavour punch and some crisp textural bits. It was encased in a homemade tortilla which held steady in eating. I actually preferred the simple lime in this case, since there was so much going on in the filling. The tomatillo salsa felt a bit watered and was a bit redundant with the lime Service was very friendly. Lots of parking in the area

No wait to sit at the bar outside, though there looked to be a large party happening on this pleasant Sunday afternoon. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla which came with the salsa on the side. It was stuffed with a colorful mix of ingredients but it didn't seem to hold together well and the taste was slightly lacking. Let's just say I've had much better from their food truck in San Jose in the past. I also got the strawberry margarita. I tasted more salt than strawberry flavor in the drink, but it wasn't bad. My order took about 25 minutes, and I wasn't given any napkins or utensils till I was able to request this from an employee after some time had gone by. The outdoor bar staff was in and out, and service wasn't very attentive during my time here. In fact, I asked for the bill early, cuz I had somewhere I needed to be, and the guy said okay, then never helped me. I had to ask a different lady, and was almost late to my next event. With the high costs, I'd expect a little more care and effort. It's a lovely setting though.

Went here for lunch. Parking can be a bit difficult to find. There are a few parking structures nearby. We found a table without wait. Our server was friendly. The order came out fairly quickly. Kids loved the chicken tacos. I especially liked the fish burrito which was more of a custom request. They modified the chicken burrito and substituted the chicken for fish. Papas Bravas was also a pleasant surprise. Potatoes were crunchy on the outside. The veggie tacos were also good. Overall we really like the food, ambiance and the service.

Loved the unique dishes like the dumplings and how they serve beans/rice with the lunch tacos! The chips were fried fresh and delicious with dipped in the yummy queso. My favorite was quesadillas that comes in homemade blue corn tortillas. Sooo good! Outside dining space was very charming and relaxing. The staff was friendly and welcoming but he seemed short handed.

An awesome culinary experience! I started with their Chicharron Dumplings! They were a perfect segway for the taco trio I ordered! Soft tacos on homemade tortillas! I ordered carne asada, fish and shrimp! In what order would you eat them? Nice staff, fresh foods, nice beer and wine options. Beer on tap ans in the bottle (no local beers, yet), and independently owned, clean environment, peaceful atmosphere.

Just in Queso Newly opened (ca. Sept '25) restaurant serving up Mexican cuisine in quaint Downtown Morgan Hill. This former food truck now turned brick-and-mortar promises to bring chef-driven, authentic pre-invader Mexican food using simple, clean ingredients--but with flavorful twists. Note to the owners: Please take this review as advice, and know I come with peace and love. We really, really, really wanted to love this place because the ethos and idea is right up our alley, but the overall execution just left us wanting a bit more. The Good: *Great location in the heart of DT Morgan Hill *Pet-Friendly Outdoor dining (they have seating out front and a ton more in the back) *Great service (don't recall her name sorry) *Weekend only Mexican brunch *Love the Prix Fixe lunch options *The Conchinita Pibil was fork-tender and tasty, but underseasoned (this will be a theme). When combined with the beans and rice, it made for a really delicious taco. *Housemade corn tortillas were served up warm from the griddle. You could make the argument that they were a *touch* too thick, but only if one was being particularly persnickety. *Their Mexican rice is quite terrific with great flavor and texture. The black beans also had food flavor, once you added some salt to the mix. *Loved both their housemade salsas, as the red one had a nice punch and the green one good hair, albeit maybe a touch watery. The Meh: *No reservations *No alcohol--not sure if they're trying for a alcohol license or not, but a killer bar program would give this place some panache. *Pastor tacos were dry and lacked a lot of flavor. They didn't even bother toasting/charring the pineapple, which would've helped a lot. *The Chicharron Dumplings is a great idea and a wonderful way to introduce some fusion to menu, but unfortunately the concept is better than the execution. The skin of the dumllings were too thick abs didn't seem cooked thru, and the filling just had zero flavor. I loved the little side salad/garnish that came with it, tho. They should've figured out a way to put some of that into the dumpling. *Don't come here looking for inexpensive Mexi eats, as their pricing is more in-line with higher-end Mexican cuisine like LUNA or Joanne Weir's Copita. I'm not complaining, just stating a fact. *Some* people would get offended at paying $15 for two tacos, but I just take it in stride. *Most of their flavor issues stems from just straight up underseasoning of the ingredients. Fortunately they have salt & pepper shakers at the table, so that's easily rectified, but still. The Ugly: *I was excited to try the Jericayas (sic) dessert, which is a Mexican street food that's allegedly a combo of Flan & Crème Brûlée. Now, granted, this is my first time trying this dish so maybe this is what it's supposed to be like, but it was extremely eggy; the custard seemed a bit curdled; and the top was cold and flaccid because the signature "brúléeing" was done ahead of time taking away any crunchy, bitter char flavor. Conclusion: Great idea and we love the concept, but they need to not be afraid to bring the seasoning and flavor!

(This review is for a visit in September 2025) What started out as a rough first experience actually turned out to be an excellent one here at Pre-Hispanic MX Cuisine in Morgan Hill. Whilst fumbling around the area looking for a good place to have dinner, my mother and I came upon a little restaurant that seemed to embrace latin flair, so we couldn't help but stop in. The interior dining area is on the smaller side, but it's decorated with tons of Hispanic art which makes everything feel cozy. Rest assured that exterior seating is also available if desired. We were seated fairly quickly and handed menus to review... but we did find it difficult to get our order taken after being seated. It did not appear to be busy at the time, as there were plenty of available tables and most folks already in the dining area, were wrapping up their meals... this was a bit of a bummer. But hey, I'll chalk it up to short staffing. Once we were finally able to place our order we started out with an appetizer of freshly made guacamole. Presentation was definitely 10 out of 10--the preparation made it very fun to eat. The only issue was that when we tasted the guacamole, it was extremely salty. So much so in fact, we had to ask for something to drink to counteract the flavor. The horchata unfortunately didn't help as it was very chalky and didn't have the traditional flavor I'm used to. On another note, the waiter seemed pretty irritated when asked if they could remake the guacamole, but one of the restaurant owners came out with a new order in no time. Such an improvement! The second guac was perfectly seasoned and oh so delicious! We ate every last serving! The rest of the meal went off without a problem and both of the taco plates my mom and I ordered were so flavorful and fresh. She had the 3-taco plate with two "la azada" tacos and one Mahi-mahi. I went with one baja shrimp, one al pastor yucateco and one la azada. Every single taco was mouth-watering. All the ingredients were supremely fresh and the tacos were perfectly portioned. The blue corn tortillas were--as the kids would say-- *Chefs kiss* Despite the bumpy beginning to our visit... The food was phenomenal and I look forward to going back sometime soon!

Came on a whim and glad we did. We weren't actually looking for dinner but wanted a snack. The service was good and the server let us know that the tacos we ordered could be mixed and matched. We got the blackened fish, al pastor and octopus/chorizo tacos. Our favorite was the blackened fish. The octopus/chorizo was ok but there wasn't that much octopus flavor for us. The chorizo kind of over powered it. Al pastor was tasty as expected. Definitely planning on coming back for a full meal sometime.

Super clean and flavorful food. Great service. French toast a little dry but great portion. the meat was super moist and flavorful

    Crème brûlée flan

This restaurant is a nice twist on Mexican food. We had the pork dumplings which had good flavor, but the meat was a bit dry. The same is to be said for the chicken tacos. We had the spicy jalapeño margarita and a mango margarita and both were made well. There was a dessert on the menu that is a mix between a crème brûlée and a flan. This is more hype than delicious. It basically taste like a firmer version of a flan. The staff was friendly and attentive. *A sidenote, we sat outside and the wall adjacent to us is full of dust and cobwebs. That was not visually appealing when you are eating. Might be worth a good cleaning.

Ordered the carne asada and veggie burrito. Appreciated that the veggie burrito had ingredients usually in super burritos (lettuce, avocado, tomatoes, etc) without that added price compared to meat burritos, and came with a jalapeño on the side. The carne asada was extremely flavorful - nicely grilled and smokey flavor while being tender. One of my favorite carne asadas in NorCal. I figured maybe it's their sister location as they look very similar and the signage is pretty much the same. Walked up to the window and ordered three tacos of carne asada. They come with a side of sautéed onions and jalapeño. The tacos are a good size and they have a good portion of Carne Asada meat on it. The meat is well seasoned and the sautéed onions and jalapeño added to the flavor. I can see myself stopping in again and trying some of the other food they have on the menu.
