We went at Rubina for lunch since it is a convenient variation for people working around ETH and the Universitätspital (compared to the good old Mensas and Hot Pasta).
I ordered a Schnitzel with boiled potatoes and asparagus and my friend got the pasta of the day: some long noddles with long and thin cucumber slices and 3 big prawns. Her dish looked very unusual, but quite appealing I would say, whereas mine was regular, maybe the meat was somehow too thick. A soup/salad was included as part of the day menu; I had the soup (a green beans one) and my friend got the salad.
So far, so good, even if not exceptional. Food ok-ish, good location. However, as expected maybe, poor service...
There are two waiters there (maybe the owners of the place?) who seem to do everything. Even if we were greeted with a smile and the woman was quite friendly, the guy was visibly annoyed in the end by the fact that we continued discussing even after we had finished our food. He even asked: do you want something else? If not, I want to bring you the bill, that's why I am asking. We were like... Hmmm... Ok.... Bring it....
I understand that they close between 2 and 6 pm, but this happened around 1.30, so no reasons for him to freak out that badly.
Another minus for the service was that they brought me the main dish before finishing the soup, so, as the plates are huge, you can imagine there was not enough space on the tiny table for everything. After 5 minutes of arrangements, I finally finished my soup and wanted to change to the main dish. The plate was however super super hot. I had to drag it in front of me, using a napkin. Ok, it was not so terrible as it might sound to you now, but you get the point.. The whole episode was uncomfortable.
To conclude, food was quite good and worth the price (30 chf/pers). I would go back if someone else specifically wants me to join them, but not from my own initiative. read more
