We arrived at our appointed time, but were chagrined to hear that we were not on the reservation list. Disappointment started to set in as we could see that there were only a few seats left. I pulled out my phone and showed them the confirmation I had received - though they correctly pointed out that our reservation was for the next night! Despite the paucity of space, they seated us and we were delighted. My wife ordered the wiedikerli (local sausages) and I had the vitello tonnato ( thinly sliced veal topped with a creamy tuna sauce). They were outstanding and the Aperol spritzes took the edge off the heat. Service was impeccable and the locals were most friendly and engaging - the table configuration on the roof is one where closely aligned tables keep you close to your neighbors. We asked them to keep our reservation for the next night and couldn't wait to go back. We were pleased to get our server back the next evening (Sie Chen) when we returned. Having already gotten a bit acquainted with us the previous night, our server recommended some dishes to us in lieu of the ones we were considering when we started to order. We embraced all of her counsel and couldn't have been more pleased. I started with "Nüsslisalat mit Ei und Speck" - a salad made with lambs lettuce and eggs and bacon. Apparently a local favorite and quite delicious. For entrees, I had the Züri-Gschnätzlets (thinly sliced veal with a mushroom sauce) and my wife had the Roastbeef Teller. Both were divine. The next fabulous recommendation was for my desert - she recommended affogato (hot espresso poured over vanilla ice cream) - something I had never had before - also outstanding. We enjoyed the house riesling and found it complemented the meal well. Our meals ran around 140 Swiss francs, which we found to be a bargain given the quality of food, drinks and service. We didn't realize we could enter the restaurant from Schipfe Street so we wound our way toward it through the narrow riverside docks. This circutions route turned out to be totally unnecessary, but we felt like triumphant adventurers when we finally arrived and were seated at a table :-) Once seated we were delighted by the attentive, helpful servers and we very much enjoyed some splendid refreshments as we sat at our table overlooked the water, which lapped just a few feet below us. The people walking by on the opposite shore added to the idlyic restaurant scene, which was optimized by the exceptional food and welcoming ambiance. Highly recommended!

There's a larger outside dining area if the weather is warmer. The service was very friendly- the waiter did speak English, but not fluently. It wasn't a problem, just took some rephrasing to get the info we were asking about. They do have English language menus, so ordering was easy for us (I did have one semester of German, but that was more than 40 years ago so it did us no good). The menu consists of 4 appetizers, 4 entrees, and a few desserts. There's also a healthy wine & beer list. While the choices are somewhat limited, everything we tried was perfectly cooked & seasoned. I started with the Vegetarian ravioli; wonderful cream sauce! I had a local Amboss blonde lager, and my wife had a glass of Pinot Noir Rosé, also local (I didn't get the vintner) and both were excellent. I had the beer-battered Perch, and my wife had the Thai red curry. Both were magnificent - the Thai curry was full of flavor but not at all "hot" like in USA. For dessert, I had a light-as-air coffee mousse, served on vanilla ice cream with pitted cherries. Delicious! My wife had the Vegan chocolate ice cream, which is packaged- but excellent. The coffee and espresso with dessert topped off the meal wonderfully. Cost is moderate; even with wine, beer, appetizer, and dessert only about CHF 120 (about USD 144 right now). I've paid far more for much worse food and service. Schipfe 16 is a gem; well worth a visit.

I really wanted to get a cordon bleu (ideally veal) and she wanted a salad. Sadly they didn't have any veal cordon bleu, so I settled for pork. Generally it seemed like they reduces the menu compared to a couple of years ago. The cordon bleu was good. The lentil salad came with a lot of bacon (which is always a good thing - if you like bacon). I like this place because of its awesome location behind the main station and the fact that there are tourists and locals alike who go there. Prices are reasonable and the food is good. Service is also friendly. The small ittinger beer is "cheap" and very good :-).

The service was friendly, welcoming, and professional. I had one of the lunch options which was the pork cordon bleu with fries. I must say, those fries were some of the best I've ever had. I'm not sure in what kind of fat or oil they fried them in, but the were absolutely delicious. Crispy outside, fluffy inside, served piping hot fresh, well seasoned. I've never been a super huge fan of cordon bleu (I generally prefer a more simple cutlet as I find the filling more distracting than additive), but this was a well executed and satisfying version. Meat was juicy, exterior was crispy, it was freshly made and hot. No complaints. Food was not cheap, with lunch coming in at 35 CHF, but portions were huge so it was not bad value per se. Recommended for a casual, comforting, and filling meal.
