I really wanted to get a cordon bleu (ideally veal) and she wanted a salad. Sadly they didn't have any veal cordon bleu, so I settled for pork. Generally it seemed like they reduces the menu compared to a couple of years ago. The cordon bleu was good. The lentil salad came with a lot of bacon (which is always a good thing - if you like bacon). I like this place because of its awesome location behind the main station and the fact that there are tourists and locals alike who go there. Prices are reasonable and the food is good. Service is also friendly. The small ittinger beer is "cheap" and very good :-).

Sounds like an American Fraternity Why only four stars, ridiculously expensive tour at 250 a person but the wine was all you can drink and pretty selective Guild only ... as to food that was four stars at best and small portions. Service waiter was aloof. Worth a look as dine on your own, skip the Viking and come DIY for a better a cheaper experience and of course select what you what and for far better value, maybe not get to try the guild wine ?

Service It was pretty early when we stepped in, so they informed us how much time we had to eat before reservations set in, which was great and efficient, and also no problem at all. The staff was very friendly and checked up often on our meals. Food We ordered the pumpkin soup and smoked duck breast with deer liver salad to start. The whole meal was bursting with flavor complexities that i couldn't really place or imagine. The pumpkin soup was creamy, savory, spiced perfectly and not overly salty. The smoked duck was also not overly salty, and you could taste the smokiness of the duck, while the skin of the breast wasn't chewy. The deer liver was seared, leaving the insides relatively raw. I had never had this, so i had to try it. If you like liver, you'll love this meal. The salad and portwine cranberries really balanced out the meat, mellowing out the overall meal. I had the boar, which was seared and very slightly overcooked for my personal taste, but it didn't stop me from clearing out the whole plate. I would have licked it, if it were considered acceptable. Mine came with brussel sprouts puree, and spätzli. The textures and flavors were so balanced and delicious, i wish there was a restaurant similar to this back home. My friend ordered the deer filet medallions with red cabbage and i felt that the meat was perfectly cooked - not dry and tough (not saying the boar was dry or tough at all, it was just slightly cooked more than my usual preferences). The veggies on both meals were wonderful. The brussel sprouts melted in your mouth and didn't taste hard or crunchy. The red cabbage was soft, with lots of crunch and texture in the middle. I'm honestly not sure what the red fruit was on the side, but it might have been the gin plums from the menu from other meals, but man were they boozy and fantastic. I would have eaten all of both meals if i wasn't on vacation and i knew i was going straight home to stew in my food coma. Lastly, i ordered two cheeses, which the server (maybe owner? I wish i had clarified) asked if i had space in my body for it and I'll be damned if i didn't try all the cheeses available. He asked if i liked cow, sheep, or goat, in which i said surprise me and he gave me a cow and sheep one. The cow I've reminded me of triple cream cheeses -soft in the middle and a little creamier on the outside. The flavor and textures were both apparent, but not overwhelming. I wish i had asked for the names of the cheeses i tried, but i wouldn't have been able to "hear them" without writing them down. The other was a sheep cheese, which was very pungent and very creamy and i loved. This was all paired with grapes, pear, and dried figs - a perfect blend of all flavors. Overall, I'm so glad I stumbled upon this restaurant and if you want to try flavorful foods and a wonderful atmosphere with excellent service, try this restaurant. It's really delightful.

However, don't let the negative ones influence your decision to go here. From the moment you walk in, the service is delightful. Attentive and friendly and not overbearing. The decor is simple and modern. They have two menu options. First is the a la carte and second is the surprise prix fixe option. We selected the a la carte so we could share more dishes. The sommelier suggested a beautiful French Chardonnay which paired perfectly with our meal. Do not miss the pork belly starter which is their take on an Asian taco or lettuce wrap. It is delicious and apparently the only signature item on the menu since inception. We then had the roe with herb crème Fraiche and homemade blinis. Sensational. We split the Brussel sprouts and fennel vegetable dishes. The flavors are so unique and the presentation gorgeous. We also shared the halibut main. Portions are nice and we were completely full. But we could not pass up their take on the iconic American Oreo cookie with dulce de leche ice cream and truffle topping. Omg.... The other desserts also were pure art in appearance. This spot is not to be missed. It is not inexpensive but the food, service and ambience justify it. It was wonderful and I cannot wait to come back.

We didn't realize we could enter the restaurant from Schipfe Street so we wound our way toward it through the narrow riverside docks. This circutions route turned out to be totally unnecessary, but we felt like triumphant adventurers when we finally arrived and were seated at a table :-) Once seated we were delighted by the attentive, helpful servers and we very much enjoyed some splendid refreshments as we sat at our table overlooked the water, which lapped just a few feet below us. The people walking by on the opposite shore added to the idlyic restaurant scene, which was optimized by the exceptional food and welcoming ambiance. Highly recommended!

There's a larger outside dining area if the weather is warmer. The service was very friendly- the waiter did speak English, but not fluently. It wasn't a problem, just took some rephrasing to get the info we were asking about. They do have English language menus, so ordering was easy for us (I did have one semester of German, but that was more than 40 years ago so it did us no good). The menu consists of 4 appetizers, 4 entrees, and a few desserts. There's also a healthy wine & beer list. While the choices are somewhat limited, everything we tried was perfectly cooked & seasoned. I started with the Vegetarian ravioli; wonderful cream sauce! I had a local Amboss blonde lager, and my wife had a glass of Pinot Noir Rosé, also local (I didn't get the vintner) and both were excellent. I had the beer-battered Perch, and my wife had the Thai red curry. Both were magnificent - the Thai curry was full of flavor but not at all "hot" like in USA. For dessert, I had a light-as-air coffee mousse, served on vanilla ice cream with pitted cherries. Delicious! My wife had the Vegan chocolate ice cream, which is packaged- but excellent. The coffee and espresso with dessert topped off the meal wonderfully. Cost is moderate; even with wine, beer, appetizer, and dessert only about CHF 120 (about USD 144 right now). I've paid far more for much worse food and service. Schipfe 16 is a gem; well worth a visit.

Clearly the taste of the sausages is blanked by endless amounts of Sea Salt The french fires, you guessed it, drenched in Salt. The house salat. Their own vinaigrette sauce made with salt. The staff is trained like a diner staff in the USA. You barely sit down or they are on you like a Hawk. Ready to get your order. The food is clearly ready to go as well. Within minutes the order is on your plate in front of you. The Gemutlichkeit (coziness) does not exist here. Just fast expeditious service. And nothing you could call a Swiss experience. And they try to make sure to get that American feeling too as well. 18% is suggested for their check. Nothing Swiss about it. A one and done experience. Meat can be prepared and served better. Certainly for these prices.

There is a restroom located below in the corner. Ask for the code. The food was ok. I got the chili sausage with Rosti and it was just average. Nothing so special. My coworker tried the meat loaf and we were both very surprised when it came out looking like spam. It was just a hunk of meat not really the meat loaf we are used to.
