Friendly service and fresh comfort food. I wandered into Hardhof for one of my first meals in Zurich. The restaurant is casual and quaint, but polished. The service was friendly, welcoming, and professional. I had one of the lunch options which was the pork cordon bleu with fries. I must say, those fries were some of the best I've ever had. I'm not sure in what kind of fat or oil they fried them in, but the were absolutely delicious. Crispy outside, fluffy inside, served piping hot fresh, well seasoned. I've never been a super huge fan of cordon bleu (I generally prefer a more simple cutlet as I find the filling more distracting than additive), but this was a well executed and satisfying version. Meat was juicy, exterior was crispy, it was freshly made and hot. No complaints. Food was not cheap, with lunch coming in at 35 CHF, but portions were huge so it was not bad value per se. I was in Switzerland for a very short time, so I wanted to make sure I ate some legit, local food. I walked more than a mile in snow, and ended up at Hardhof. Food: I ordered veal, since Zurich is known for veal, and the meal came with a side of potatoes. I also had to order a glass of their local lager. One of the best lagers I've had! This meal was amazing. I ever make my way back to Zurich, I will be back! Sides Notes Ambiance: It has that "home" feel. As I walked in, it was nice and warm inside, and the place was designed to show off its beautiful wooden tables, floors, etc. Service: My waitress was so nice; she was very patient and made some great recommendations. I found this place on Yelp and it happened to be close to our hotel so three of us decided to try it. A homely restaurant that serves good Swiss food. The waitress was very welcoming and friendly and it felt like being in someone's living room. It was mostly locals here and they do speak good English if you so choose. We had the daily plate to start with some cold cuts and cheese and it was delicious. The homemade chili jam and fig jam was delicious. My main was a cordon bleu and it was really nice. The Rösti was also cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed my meal. They have a dessert menu of small desserts to choose from and I tried the fennel ice cream which was fabulous. I would definitely come back here again. It's good food served in a casual and friendly environment. It's also reasonably priced for Zürich. read more

The food has the traditional touch with modern and innovative ideas: try the Tagliatelle with a lemon capers thymian sauce. The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed. Amazing place, warm and cozy, friendly waitstaff, very accommodating with English menus (since we don't speak German well) and helpful descriptions of the food. It appeared that many locals dine here. I had the veal "Zurich - style" which is with mushrooms in a cream sauce, with the traditional accompaniment, Rosti (similar to a hash born but sooo much better!). My husband has the Vienna schnitzel, also excellent. We had a starter of meats and cheeses from local merchants. I highly recommend this place highly! read more

I came here with my husband and another couple. This restaurant was as good as Yelp said it was. I had the Corden Blu. My fellow diners had wonderful meals. It's kind of a hole in the wall and when we first walked in, the word 'dive' was muttered by someone, however it was clean and homey and had wonderful food. Lovely restaurant. If possible, I would've rated 4.5 stars. The staff deserve 5-stars, being friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was very good and most of the menu was locally sourced. I had a glass of Pinot Gris (from a Zurich winery) which was fruity and full of flavor to accompany my main of veal slices in a mushroom cream sauce served with the traditional accompaniment of a potato rosti. My dining companion had the cordon bleu with roasted potatoes and a local beer. We started our meal with a local cheese and meat board served with a fig mustard and bread. The Hardhof restaurant does not look like much from the outside, but it is clean and welcoming once through the doors. The restauranis located just next to a stop for both tram lines 2 and 3 making in easily accessible. Overall, very pleased with the choice to dine here and found prices reasonable to a comparable standard when in Zurich. read more
