The Netherlands often gets a bad rap for not having great food. As far as Utrecht goes, Restaurant Luce certainly should dispel some of that reputation. The interior space has a very modern feel. Our waiter was very nice and took pains to explain everything to us in English - and with Luce's interesting menu, that was no small feat.
They have a prie fixe menu available for 36.50 Euro a person. Personally, I felt it was more than worth it. The wine list is quite nice and the prices aren't especially high for a restaurant of this calibre.
All of the food was presented beautifully with interesting flavor choices and artistic flair. We began with a cup of pureed califlower soup. Then we moved on to antipasti, which were veal sausages with eggplant and morel mushrooms, with a beautiful portobello powder and suace, a Dutch crawfish served in a kind of vegetable aspic, and slices of mackerel. The entrees were equally interesting - the one downside of the meal was that there weren't a lot of options for vegetarians.
The desserts may have been best of all. Mine was a combination of lemon foam, crushed bread crumbs and a white beer ice cream. You read that right - white beer ice cream!
Overall, with food and wine the bill came to around 50 Euro per person, which, in my opinion, for such a high level of cuisine, is a fantastic deal. read more
