The best restaurant in France that I randomly found on Yelp! A true 5 stars in food, service, and…read morevalue. Since this place only had 3 French reviews, I wanted to write a comprehensive English one for non-French speakers so they can also enjoy this gem. Located in Saint-Julien-en-Genevois by the France/Switzerland border on the France side, La Table a Raclette specializes in fondues. Their options include raclette, reblonchonade, savoie, suisse, etc. For non dairy options, there are many meat items like hamburger, tartare, steak, salmon and escargot. Prices are also very reasonable (much cheaper than Geneva less than 15 minutes away). Our total was less than 50 euros despite ordering way too much food and drinks: ***decent wine list. We got local savoie wine and champagne for only 3-4 euros per glass! ***fondue savoie - I chose this one since it does not require a minimum of 2 people. A generous amount of 3 cheeses (comte, beaufort, gruyere), 7 huge fingerling potatoes, and a large basket of baguette pieces. Needless and sad to say, I only ate a third of my food. If you do not have a large appetite, this fondue is enough for 2 to eat. ***steak (entrecôte on the menu) with French fries, garlic green beans - there are 2 size options (300g, 500g). I think the 300g one is equivalent to about 10oz which I personally find enough to eat. Their medium rare is a true steakhouse medium rare with pink in the middle ***like typical French restaurants, you start with a basket of sliced baguette ***we also had small salads which were very necessary amongst the heap of bread, potatoes, cheese and meats All of our servers were very friendly but we only spoke French to them so I am not sure about their English speaking abilities. If you do not have dietary restrictions or many questions, knowing minimal French should be fine to order a great meal though. The restaurant itself is a quaint chalet style with a great terrace. Tldr; I HIGHLY recommend stopping by this gem on the border!

Not only the food was great, the ambiance and treatment we received was amazing. The chef came by each table and said hello and was very kind, the waiter tolerated my brother who always has a special order. Didn't even laugh at us when we asked for cold glass of milk with our dessert, which most Europeans would. We saw the food that a large group was having it seemed it was specially made for them, but they were nice enough to make it for us too. The waiter saw me stealing potatoes off of my brother's plate, and brought us an extra side plate of potatoes. Very nice, very accommodating and the taste and qualify of the food was really worth writing about.

The interior decoration is oldish and very basic (typical countryside bistro), but they have a nice 'al fresco' terrace in summer, the food is simple but very natural and of great quality ,and prices are very reasonable. Service is also very good and friendly. Besides you will get to see one of the smallest and charming villages in the Geneva countryside with a magnificent hillview over a beautiful valley.

Merveilleux! Magnifique! And I don't even speak French!…read more We were directed to this café by a tour guide and through online recommendations. It was one of very few eating establishments near our hotel, so given its popularity and being aware of the need to have reservations for dinner, we decided to try a mid-day lunch. There was nobody eating indoors, so we selected an outside table. The area is mostly shady and has a nice feel, but tables are rather closely spaced, and if you're sensitive to cigarette smoke, you might not enjoy this. The menu has many classical Swiss dishes, and the place is best known for its outstanding fondue. We ordered this to share. A carafe of water, our wine, and a basket of not-so-fresh crusty bread (uncubed) came first. Then the fondue (in a cast iron pot), my gazpacho, and my husband's salad arrived. The waiter offered a half portion of salad, which was perfect. My gazpacho was slightly textured, had hints of garlic, onion, and peppers, and came with mini-croutons. It was perfect on that hot afternoon. But the star of our lunch was the amazing fondue, which was thick and flavorful. We did have to cut up the bread for dipping, and it certainly could have been fresher. There were lots of sparrows trying to get their share of it. All in all, this was a great afternoon meal at a reasonable cost (for Switzerland, anyhow). We'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Since the place is known for fondue, we had to get that and it was really good. I could have just eaten that and been fine but I didn't know that ahead of time and ordered some ravioli, which was very good too. Service was fairly friendly and the food was great, so I give it two thumbs up. I will say the seating is a little tight but they're trying to give as many people as possible the opportunity to eat here so I get it.

Here is what we noticed: - When we arrived, it was a little hot, so we opted to sit indoors, not realizing that we would be sitting near the open windows by the outdoor smoking section so be aware. - The menu is quite expansive, with lots of homemade pastas and pizzas. There were a lot of other interesting dishes that we wish we could try, but we just didn't need more than a couple. - We ordered a bottle of white wine and the server brought out the wrong one (a red). Luckily, we noticed it before it was opened and he brought out something else since the one we ordered apparently wasn't available. It ended up being really good! - We ordered a dozen snails, and eventually he served us four of them, indicating that they were all out, but that we wouldn't be charged. That was too bad because they were delicious and we wish they had had more. - We ordered the Quattro Fromaggio Pizza and the Tortellini Scampi for both of us to share. They were both excellent! - Service was OK, but our server got less attentive as the place got more crowded. It took forever for us to get our check and pay at the end even though we asked a couple of times. Bottom line: La Gioconda hit the spot for our first night in Geneva. It's not cheap but we didn't expect otherwise.
