Fans of molecular gastronomy will enjoy this modern, upscale dining option on the shores of Lake Geneva. On the recommendation of a friend we tried VertigO and enjoyed a lovely foodie adventure.
From the amuse to the foie (with lychee gelee -- a new combination for me) to the fish and then the lamb, the flavor progressions were managed beautifully and dishes presented with artistry. I wish I could recount all that was involved with each course but I'd likely get them wrong. I will, however, mention the savory punch of flavor from the petit Madeleine that started our meal...the velvety texture of the foie...the interesting take on "canoli" that came with the fish...and the rich preparation of the lamb that made up our Veritage tasting menu. This comes with a cheese and desert course but I walked away satisfied without being overly full -- even *after* the additional sweets brought by to "top things off". The service was impeccable -- helpful and present without being overbearing or intrusive -- and added to the sophistication of the experience.
The only reason for my 4 star rating is that for as delightful as our meal was...this wouldn't be a place I could see myself enjoying on a bi-weekly or weekly basis. There's a bit of "special occasion" feel that while fun every now and again, wouldn't be my first/quick answer for a craving of stick to your ribs / consistently satisfying / must-have-because-I'm- fighting-a-craving dining option. A lovely experience nonetheless that I would recommend to others -- especially molecular gastronomy fans! read more
