The Gasthof Kohlern is just a short distance from the top station, traditional and expressive, elegant and genuine in character – exactly like the menu! We use local produce where possible, with regional ingredients if necessary – the fare is in any case always seasonal. Cooking is a form of expression and in Kohlern it stands for honesty. Chuckled through check-in, chuckled at each morning "cappuccino decaffinato" order... maybe it's the decaf thing. The room was comfortable, and the two chairs on the shared hallway/porch made for nice sunset-watching. Window looked to be a double-swing set-up --- handle down to lock, horizontal to open completely, and up to tilt in at the top. (We didn't figure that out until later, only used the tilt-in function). Only one window made ventilation a little challenging on hot days --- opening the door for a cross-breeze helped. Breakfast was full of similar-but-distinct croissant-like things --- I think I've now figured out which ones have cream, or chocolate, or jam, or no filling... but I'm not sure. Feichter made a nice unassuming and casual base (they're happy to stash your bags for a few hours between check-out and your train); in return, they certainly seemed to get a kick out of me.
