Medium rare top to bottom, end to end. The aged "luma" entrecôte was fantastic. I will say though that I was expecting the ribeye which is traditional entrecôte but they serve the strip. So glad we did! It was by far the best meal we had during our whole trip. The steaks were very high quality and delicious. Even the steak on the children's menu was excellent (and not over-cooked like they can be on children's menus at restaurants in the US). The side dishes were also very good, as was the wine. Because we were in Germany, the price was half of what we would have paid just over the border. I travel to Basel regularly and plan to visit Mendoza Steakhouse often.

The surf and turf came with shrimp which had an amazing butter sauce. And the filet was perfectly cooked to medium raw - so tender. Presentation of the food was also nicely done.

The decor of the restaurant had an Asian flair and an ambience that was very comfortable. The restaurant had a moving sushi bar with an array of choices and Teppanyaki U shape counter. Hattori opened 5 Months ago. To start we had the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura and Ahi Tuna Tataki with a Kirin Premium beer. The Tempura was light and crispy with a flavorful dipping sauce. The Tuna Tataki was seared to perfection with the right amount of seasoning and topped with daikon/sauce. The Steak was done medium rare with a variety of sautéed mushrooms including shiitake. It was plated with a nice delicate sauce with cubed gelatin flavored with shiitake mushroom dashi, mirin, shoyu and sake. Chef Alek served us his soft and tasty Homemade bread with a marinated broccoli spread. Executive Chef Alek's creations are so tasty. We ended the dinner with shot of Yamasaki Whiskey which won a world title as best in class and Sweet Umeshu. It was an excellent meal and we felt at home with the friendly staff and owner. We highly recommend Hattori Sushi/Steakhouse and hope you all will check it out. Your taste buds will be treated to an awesome epicurean experience!

Everyones food that came out looked awesome so we were excited. When the food finally came, presentation was great, however that was it. The penne pasta taste was off. Just tasted like tons of butter. The t bone was the biggest disappointment. The steak was tough and looked like it was cooked frozen, even though the waitress denied it was frozen, i can cleaely tell it was. Also I ordered it medium rare, it came out medium well.

There's not much else there that's walk-off-the-street commercial. The decor goes a bit overboard but not too much so. It still has a certain appeal. The interesting part to me is that they call themselves the Kentucky Saloon and Steakhouse, but it appeared from the environs and the menu they were going for more of a Southwest or Old West theme. But those are details. That does not take away from the fact that the atmosphere was pleasant and my experience was quite nice. It starts with the personnel and the wait staff working at the time of my visit were terrific. They were friendly and attentive. I was seated right away and there were no gaps in service. The menu featured some interesting American-style choices, with steak options being the most prominent. I started with the pumpkin soup which was rich and hearty. Bread came with this to make it the perfect opener. I generally go away from red meat most of the time and they did have a few chicken and fish items. I chose the Dragon Fire Chicken. It was served with a generous covering of barbecue sauce on a small bed of beans. Accompanied by vegetables and a baked potato, it was a very filling meal. The Malbec provided a nice complement and the finishing coffee was reasonably good. The prices were expensive but that's more to do with the fact that it was Switzerland. My final bill with a small (10%) tip was 62 CHF (included starter, main, 330-mL water, 1-dL wine and coffee). Given the fact that I find Swiss restaurants to be nearly twice as expensive as comparable US restaurants, the cost was about right in my estimation. I was generally pleased with my visit to this interesting establishment. Given the fact that it's within walking distance of my preferred hotel when I'm in Basel, I'm likely to try it again.
