My work colleagues usually likes to get together after work for an Apéro, and this time someone suggested going here. He booked a table for us, because we are usually a bigger crowd (10 people or more). They then said, there is a minimum spend of CHF 100 per person because we booked a table. We thought no problem, drinks are usually between 15-20 and if someone got a couple bottles of wine, it will surely cover the minimum charge. Plus, it was a hot evening, surely people were thirsty!
I arrived with three others a little bit later, 30 mins later, and saw our group sitting outside on the terrace. It looked comfortable and we were really happy for the turn out! Just as we were arriving, the (German) waitress gave us evil looks and shook her head, and complained in a really loud voice, saying, "No, no, no, this cannot be! You cannot come with so many people when you originally booked the table for 13!! This is out of order! I don't want you standing around, lingering around other people's tables! You booked a table for 13! You are too many! You are TOO many!!!" - I'm sorry, do you not want our custom??! (Ok, we were maybe 20 people instead of 13, but really?!) She was really sour and took our orders with acid coming out of her tone of voice. She would come with the drinks, and stand with protest at the far end of the table and yell out the drinks for us to perk up and grab them. And if we didn't react the first time, she would curse in German, thinking that none of us would understand since we only spoke English (Sorry hunny, some of us do speak German).
We were there till about midnight, beared the stinking mood of this waitress, drank plenty, some of us had food (I didn't, so I cannot give my review to that) and all in all had a great time in each other's company. When the bill, you could see the relief on the waitress's face. I thought maybe she secretly counted the heads of all who were there to charge us more, but she didn't. She still hated us though.
It's very unfortunate for this event. I really liked the Fischstube as a venue and the terrace is gorgeous. Shame for the waitress who had so much hate for us and just didn't try to accommodate us and "deal" with the situation. Unfortunately, because of this very unfriendly waitress, I will not be returning to Fischstube. read more
