4/2/24 - After a morning touring with lots of walking, we were ready for some lunch. Our tour guide had stopped in front of this restaurant earlier and talked about it having been family run and locals concerned about what would happen as they sold it. She explained it still was a local favorite. So that's exactly where we headed when we wanted to stop and eat. Initially it wasn't busy and we were seated at round table easily seating 6. Ordering was a bit confusing. The waiter didn't seem to speak English. Some of the menu items were displayed in a case that included quite an array. We finally asked for something similar to a small charcuterie board, and of course asked for the house wine. Before long it arrived and after we started to eat another gentleman was escorted to our table and placed his own lunch order. He didn't speak any English and but we exchanged pleasantries. Soon after another gentleman he knew joined us. Then shortly there after another, who spoke English and we had quite a nice conversation together. We indeed enjoyed the food and low key atmosphere. But we will always remember these 3 retired architects who met decades ago when they came to take advantage of the lunch special and got to be friends. They also suggested a couple of things to see that weren't suggested by our guide that we later did go to see. It's why we love to go places the locals like! Make sure to make reservations for the place is busy. Ground floor is the tapas bar and the 2nd floor is the sit down for main courses. Food is good. Paella was great tasting and portion is just right. Service is attentive and casual. read more

This is most definitely an endorsement of this restaurant: the food was absolutely divine. Located in a cute section of Zurich, with a menu that looks quite spanish to my Northern European eyes, and staff that actually matches that too! My first meal in Zurich! Tapas was the perfect choice as it was just what I needed to refuel... but still let me save room in my stomach for all of the eating I would be doing on the rest of my trip! We sat in the downstairs tavern where it's dark & rustic, and we shared an assortment of tapas including meatballs, fried potato balls, chicken skewers, and mussels. They were all equally tasty, and I can't say that I liked one more than another. However, the tapas are all pre-made on display, and they are reheated once you order them. Not a big deal to me, but that may be a turn-off to some people. Our waitress spoke German with a crazy Spanish accent, and service was a bit on the slow side... but it allowed us to relax, enjoy our meal, and people-watch as they strolled by in the Niederdorf! read more

Food: below average, Price: not worth it. I know Zurich restaurants are pricy but at least you should get decent tasting food. This place is just okay or even below okay. We ordered the morcilla and tortilla and grilled mixed seafood platter. Nothing stood out unfortunately. Afterwards both of us didn't feel so well and bloated the next day. Decent place in the heart of the Old Town which feels like a typical wine hall (reminds me of the ones in Paris) to grab a nice Spanish house wine/Sangria with an assortment of tapas. Great place to come with a few friends when you want to snack but not indulge in a gluttonous pig fest. Our intestines were still suffering from the overdose of cheesy sticky spicy Korean food from the night before, so this place hit the spot. Don't order the tapas from the tourist menu - typically this is a really big brown covered menu book which does not list the tapas for CHF 5-6/plate. When in doubt just ask and speaking in Spanish is a bonus (mira mira, Hablo Español!). Of course with my Asian-ish look here in Zurich, they gave me the big old tourist menu and the mixed group of us just laughed it off. I'm not even sure if they have a real tapas menu (listing items of CHF 5-6/plate) so just ask to look or tell you what they have. Tapas come with sliced bread and are all pretty decent, but I take liking to the chorizo and pulpo (they don't always have it though). ***My biggest pet peeve is this place is ALWAYS VERY WARM, in the winter and in the summer. I love being exposed to colder temperatures, so I'm not a huge fan of staying here too long when I am here.*** read more

OLE! OLE! OLE! I had the amazing seafood plate with prawns, octopus and fish. It was cooked to perfection, spiced perfectly and the portions were generous. The staff was very accommodating as I was the last seated customer in the restaurant and I never felt rushed or that I was considered a burden. The Chef even came out to me to check on how I liked the food! The staff service was attentive without being intrusive and they had very sound and appreciated recommendations for wine pairings and explained the dishes I had questions on thoroughly. The ambiance is wonderful as well. Aside from the burden of climbing up a steep set of stairs the candle-lit, Wood-accented decor was authentic to a bodega in the heart of Madrid. Couple that with incredible authentic spanish food and you have yourself a truly amazing dinner experience in beautiful Zurich. read more

We ate upstairs in the restaurant area. The bottom floor is for tapas. The food is very average for what looks like a nice restaurant. I had the paella which had crunchy rice and just meh flavor. I've had better paella in Ohio. Waiter was also rude and not very pleasant. The only good thing is the location and atmosphere is very nice. There are better options in Zurich. read more

We were craving tapas for dinner in Zurich and came across this restaurant on yelp. We made reservations since we heard all restaurants in the city were filling up fast following the relaxation on COVID-19 restrictions. Unfortunately, we were directed to the upstairs dining hall by the concierge standing outside, where there were no tapas and food prices were double what was downstairs. It seems that the restaurant caught another unsuspecting tourist hungry from a long day. The upstairs dining room was serving mostly barbecued food from the grill. My grilled steak with no sides or condiments cost me 39 CHF. My wife had the grilled seafood combo with side grilled vegetables costing 45 CHF. It was an expensive meal considering what we got, even in comparison to most restaurants in Zurich. We couldn't get over being price gouged at this restaurant for not planning better or being more careful. read more

Not a good place. Overpriced, bad value and very rude service. Worst tapas (for seafood tapas they had some calamaris mixed with artificial crab meat). For their prices you can have a nice meal in a good restaurant. I know it sounds ridiculous in 21 century, but waiters only respond to men's requests and completely ignore women. Overall, go somewhere else, there's nothing Spanish in this place and food is just bad and overpriced for the value they offer read more

We had a table upstairs - lovely, cozy and a friendly atmosphere. Our starters from the specials menu were delicious (wood smoked beef and fried aubergine) and for our main course we shared a paella - the portions were generous to say the least. So far, we were very much enjoying our meal and the waiter was attentive and nice. However, we were really disappointed with the desert (the "Pijama"), which was a combination of tinned peach and pear, fresh slices of grapefruit, some type of crème brûlée (which didn't taste homemade) and low quality ice cream. In central Zurich, you would think food was rare, for the price it commands. The Bodega is not cheap, but you can eat there for a less than in many places. The Tapas are OK measured against Swiss Tapas, they wouldn't score more than average in Spain - the microwave features strongly here. For all that, the place is redolent with atmosphere and well worth visiting if you are in the area. read more

Solid tapas in a cozy environment. We shared a great bottle of Rioja and several tapas plates. They also had a selection of larger plates, but after a large (and expensive) lunch, we opted for the small plates. The octupus nd white anchovies were excellent, as were the chorizo and potatoes. I didn't care for the meatballs, but my husband liked them. Very friendly service. read more
