How do you say "crazy crap on the walls" in German? Well, no matter, it's a fun and funky place that's kind of like a mini food court. It's attached to a market selling gourmet items, and the large open seating area is surrounded by several counters selling a variety of items. There's the bar, of course, for your drinks, and then a tapas/charcuterie counter, dessert counter, and some other stuff I don't remember. My friend and I weren't terribly hungry so we just got an antipasti platter and a slab of country pate. Accompanied by several good hefeweizens, it was a fun evening, especially when you see a painting of a biker Jesus on the wall (see photo). When we first got there around 5pm it was pretty quiet, but soon after a whole bunch of young workers from the nearby Technopark complex came streaming in and made for quite a lively scene. Worth a visit!

Pretty low key looking on a cold winter night.

It's a fairly trendy spot, and it was packed on Friday night. Still the service was timely, the food was great, and the atmosphere lively. I had the "Hamshuka" which is minced beef and lamb, surrounded with hummus and a spicy sauce that gave it some kick. Excellent. If you're in this neighborhood, give Neni a shot, you won't regret it.

Wow good lord this food is fantastic…read more My friend Sahil and I came here on a weekday and were seated at the bar without a wait. We were lucky- the place was packed! It was really fun sitting at the bar- you could watch all the cooks do their thing and we were highly entertained. Sahil ordered the Sabich and I order a hummus trio with a side of falafel. It was more than enough food. The Sabich looked beautiful and whatever magic they did to the aubergine was fantaaaaastic. They were crunchy and wonderful. The falafel were also beautifully done and came with a side of wonderful sauce that I can't remember the name of now. I was also really impressed with the hummus trio. All three were very different and large portions. I kept picking a new favourite, it was hard to choose. We got beet, mango, and I think the regular. Fantastic flavours, really great waitstaff, and a freaking amazing experience overall. I'll be back!

But Pergola's less exterior presence doesn't mean that interior offerings are less worthy though one could say the interior furnishings are a-okay/kind of dated. In fact, all meat and fish lovers who love a hard bargain should come to Pergola instead. Pergola is great when you are with some friends or family, feeling ravenous and want to be feed with great meat and fish/squid dishes without falling over the bill. Pergola is Italian/Portuguese food, so you cannot do wrong with one or the either. Be careful - the menu is quite extensive too. For the starters I would highly recommend the Sepia (Squid). Enough to nibble between 2-3 people, but they do serve this as a main course with Spanish rice. For the main, depending on what you like, get either the sepia/fish or go for the meat! I ordered a steak entree for two and received a portion so generous I was ready to call up my other friend to come over and help me finish it. The steak entree for two was nicely served in two courses, so that while you are eating the first portion, the second portion is sitting in a warm area, so that when you are served again you are still eating a very nice meal. This type of good service with reasonable prices and tasty, well portioned food is not something you will find much of in Zurich. The customers are in general pretty friendly so don't worry about chatting up someone in another group behind/across from you. The service is very good and I'd recommend a reservation since it was busy.
