Lunch Tasting Menu at Restaurant Ermitage (Montreal) I've been coming to Ermitage since their original location, and every time I visit Montreal from New York City, it's one of my must-stop spots. It's such a joy to see them still thriving--elegant, warm, and deeply rooted in tradition. This visit, we indulged in the lunch dégustation menu, and it was truly exceptional from start to finish. We started with a refined fish platter--salmon, sturgeon, mackerel--followed by luxurious salmon caviar with warm blinis and crème fraîche. A perfect, classic beginning. The "Trip to Russia" plate featured beef pelmeni, mushroom vareniki, and meat pirozhki--each bite full of comfort and heart. Then came a lovely surprise: a vodka and mint sorbet--a nod to the classic French trou normand, meant to cleanse the palate and awaken the senses before the main course. Light, bracing, and beautifully timed. For our mains, I had the lamb rib chops glazed in porcini and Madeira--tender, flavorful, and decadent. My husband went with the beef stroganoff, creamy and perfectly balanced--an absolute standout. We paired the meal with their smooth lemon-infused vodka, which brought a bright, elegant lift to each course. Dessert was simple and satisfying: cheese-filled blinchiki served with tea. A sweet finish to a thoughtfully curated meal. The service was warm, the setting intimate, and at C$116 for two, this 7-course experience is a true hidden gem in Montreal. Best Eastern European food I've had! Everything was delicious. We got the salmon caviar and blini, borscht, Balkan salad (amazing), vareniki with potatoes and fish. It was so delicious and we finished every plate. The service was amazing and the lady helping us was very nice. The ambiance is great and vintage style. My friend and I opted for the "Menu Reception" (Dégustation) and were very disappointed. We questioned if everything was house made or not. The lamb and desert were excellent but the remaining really lacked flavor and presentation. The wapiti was supposed to be served rare and wasn't. It took a very long time so if you're in a hurry, skip. For the price it wasn't what we'd have expected. Perhaps it wasn't a good idea to go on a Sunday evening? read more

I felt like I was back in Eastern Europe. Typical food at reasonable prices ( 6 courses tasting menu 96$ for two persons) Mrs Gala, our server is a very sweet and funny lady. She provides an excellent service on top of it. She speaks at least 5 languages that I got aware of. We will definitely return. read more

Diner on Sunday June 26th 2022, we were 2 couple celebrating our wedding anniversaries. We went with the Tasting menu and had a nice bottle of red wine. The food was amazing, the presentation, the service and the flavours of the food were exquisite. This place is a hidden Gem of a restaurant. What ever we had on the Tasting menu were almost to ally home made, home made sour cream, home made cheese that was the filling on the desert, the fish smoked in house, the chef makes sure everyhting is 100% perfect. The decor is very nice nd has a relaxing atmosphere. They do not rush you to eat, we were there for almost 3 hrs, enjoying the food and talking. will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes, like chicken kiev, the different soups and other appetizers. read more

Nice waitress! Confortable service and place~

The service was perfect from the moment we arrived until the end. Loved the interior of the restaurant. For starters we ordered soups, classics borscht and solyanka, both delicious. Main courses were duck with orange sauce and deer steak with porto sauce. Again, both excellent. Desserts we chose my old times favourite napoleon cake, just love it. It has been a long time since I've been to a restaurant where they go out of their way for the Customer. First of all I show up with 36 people. We fill out the whole place and everything was great! From the service to the Home made bread to their lovely decor. Yes, you heard me everything was home made and really great tasting including the Home Made Bread! Wow!! It was like being in someone's kitchen in Russia. They treated us to their sherbet with vodka, on the house, because they felt guilty that the service was slow but that is normal with such a big group. we had our pre-weddng celebration dinner here.. we had about 50 people.. entertainment was good... food was even better.. its in NDG - so not really touristy. but accessible by metro or taxi ride from downtown (should be about $15 depending from where) its russian food.. so be prepared to eat a lot ;) read more

Old school Russian and classic European kitchen. Something that one may have to travel outside of western Europe to experience in terms of European cuisines these days. As for Russian part, I knew it was real the moment I smelled the pickled cucumbers that came with my chilled vodka. Nothing like smelling the honest pickled cucumber after a shot of vodka. Oh, the bread is real (vodka friendly) as well. The best Beef Stroganoff I've ever had, and I've had them all over the world including even Tokyo. Genuine Russian hospitality.
