Wow so I must give this place an updated review came here 3 times again after my initial review .. had not much of a choice since my family adores this place.. the food surprisingly improved and came out super fresh and tender all the times I came here afterwards. Prices are still steap and very high the alcohol is a real rip off since you can't order by the glass only by bottles .. it's super annoying to see crazy prices on booze. However, the food was very delicious and got wayyy better from my last review. Portions increased and the quality aswell Overall, it's a great place to celebrate birthdays and parties and they have live russia entertainment on Friday & Saturdays at 8pm which sets them apart from the rest. Beautiful small venue and I recommend

This is a family owned restaurant in Ville-Saint-Laurent..1 minute from Du College Metro and easy to find parking. I have had only positive experiences with the restaurant. I was shocked to see the choices on the menu. Some of these items I would not consider, but after a leap of faith I was amazed.. for example the Herring Filet, I did not expect the fine taste, it wasn't fishy at all and I really loved it. If yo are fan of mushrooms I loved the Julien it's baked in cream mushroom sauce but packed with flavor. The one dish I hesitated because I've had it in the past ad a friend's place was the Borsch soup, Ican't say it's for everyone but this one was one of my favorite and I would reorder it (I have). Since I'm a mushroom lover I had to try the Chicken Kiev! Chicken filled with goodness... It melts i n your mouth. I can keep going on.. Duck rasputin will be my last but not least (more like my favorite). The service was friendly and if you go on the weekend Friday night and Saturday the owners and other performers are on stage... I really like there was not extra charge and what great environment for group of friends or a date. They did make some minor renovations, the place looks clean and well kept. COVD: During Covid I have ordered a few times and I found that its really important to help out locals and especially ones that hidden gems in your local area. I try hard to switch it up as much as I can. I would recommend you give this one a try. I did find there portions very generous and you pay for quality (and the right kind of quantity).. Those living in the Ville Saint Lauren I would recommend ordering takeout, you can order it online. Uber if you must (I find it painful to have restaurants loose a % of there profits when they have so much overhead :( but it's an option. We all need to eat and why not eat with a cause #helpinglocals

Been wanting to try this place for a while now so I did today. I thought it looked really clean and nice inside. Simple and elegant decor. While waiting for the food they gave me 2 halves of a slice of bread and butter. There were also some croutons on the table that I nibbled on. I had the beef stroganoff. It comes with rice or potatoes and a salad (all on one plate). Couldn't decide whether to have it with rice or potatoes but the staff was kind enough to offer me 50/50. There were 3 potatoes and what seemed liked a tablespoon of rice. The stroganoff came in a little pot that was a good serving and kept the food warm. It was delicious.

The restaurant changed its name to Restaurant Majeur and I think the owner is new also. Still serving Russian food.

Lunch Tasting Menu at Restaurant Ermitage (Montreal)…read more I've been coming to Ermitage since their original location, and every time I visit Montreal from New York City, it's one of my must-stop spots. It's such a joy to see them still thriving--elegant, warm, and deeply rooted in tradition. This visit, we indulged in the lunch dégustation menu, and it was truly exceptional from start to finish. We started with a refined fish platter--salmon, sturgeon, mackerel--followed by luxurious salmon caviar with warm blinis and crème fraîche. A perfect, classic beginning. The "Trip to Russia" plate featured beef pelmeni, mushroom vareniki, and meat pirozhki--each bite full of comfort and heart. Then came a lovely surprise: a vodka and mint sorbet--a nod to the classic French trou normand, meant to cleanse the palate and awaken the senses before the main course. Light, bracing, and beautifully timed. For our mains, I had the lamb rib chops glazed in porcini and Madeira--tender, flavorful, and decadent. My husband went with the beef stroganoff, creamy and perfectly balanced--an absolute standout. We paired the meal with their smooth lemon-infused vodka, which brought a bright, elegant lift to each course. Dessert was simple and satisfying: cheese-filled blinchiki served with tea. A sweet finish to a thoughtfully curated meal. The service was warm, the setting intimate, and at C$116 for two, this 7-course experience is a true hidden gem in Montreal. After all these years, Ermitage continues to feel like home. We'll always come back.

Oily, crispy and a perfectly melted stringy cheese inside. 8.5/10 - The Blintchiki with cabbage (fried crepes with cabbage stuffed inside) and a side of cream-cheese was extremely good, like some crispy, oily, cabbage roll. It might have been slightly too oily but otherwise great. 4/10 - The Tolma (basically rice-stuffed grape leaves) were not on par at all with the usual Lebanese version. It was very mushy, it fell apart and the spices were odd. 8/10 - The Borscht (beet soup with vegetables) was fantastic, however I personally prefer the version with dumplings inside (i.e. Polish version). It was nonetheless very good and heart warming, however it had a more pronounced vegetable-like flavor than what you'd get from the Polish version. ~/10 - The Khinkali (meat-stuffed dumplings), I'll withhold judgement because I personally don't tolerate meat that's fatty and I also don't tolerate cilantro. However, if you like a more fatty beef stuffed into dumplings with cilantro, that's for you. 8.5/10 - The Chuchkella (walnuts coated by some sweet chewy roux/candy shell), it's extremely good and it's one of those things you could cut up into pieces and snack on them all day long. It's a unique flavor I personally never had before but I could summarize it as sweet-coated walnuts. As for the ambiance, it was very cozy. It has that oldschool classical brown & red decor and the place is very small. Overall, I give it a 8/10. Worth it.

Decor/Ambiance: The primary reason this is a 4 and not 5 star review is because the place is kinda tough on the eyes. It had some odd bright art and the background music was what we could only assume was a Russian pop music video station. Honestly, we ended up finding it charming but it will definitely raise a foodie's skeptical eyebrow. Wait staff: Out waitress was Russian, with a heavy accent and little reticent to suggest our dishes... but she knocked it of the park and beamed with pride over the food. There's really nothing like someone who cares about the place doing the serving. Food: So delicious. We can't speak to it's authenticity (first timers and all), but everything was delicious. I had the Chicken Kiev which came with a unique Georgian plum sauce that could make shoe leather delectable. My husband had a authentic Georgian beef dish (the name escapes me) cooked with garlic, spices and walnuts. It was also unique and delicious! We will definitely return in the event that we are back in Montreal.

You might have guessed, but I'm Ukrainian/Russian and have been coming here for years with my family for bigger events. This is a place where you need to be a group of people. They offer different menu combos where you share a multitude of absolutely delicious Russian dishes. There is also live music on Fridays and Saturdays and a dance floor. Every time I've been, the crowd was Eastern European. So In addition to Russian music, they might also play Polish, Ukrainian, Moldavian, Romanian, etc. songs. Although a bit pricey, it's a great place to discover Russian food and music.
